This is the perfect song. I've waited my whole life to hear this song. Everything about the sound, the era, when the drums kick in. This song is unbelievably good.
+Joe Large Every single song on This album is absolutely fantastic. No fillers. BLOODY HAMMER ftw!!!!! Oh and holy shit in Hemlock grove Famke Jennsen Karaokes "Creature with an Atom Brain." Mind blowing! lol
Billy Gibbons said Rokys voice was in a class all its own undefineable etc. For me nothing can compare when he lights that voice up it cuts straight to the bone then Roky could sing a ballad like Starry Eyes or Slash 1. He was one no one will ever be able to come close an there are many great talents. Glad I was introduced thanks to The Lazy Cowgirls
I heard the 13th Floor Elevators an The Moving Sidewalks shared the same house for a while. Billy Gibbons would be able to say whether that was true. I have 99th Floor single. Love that 65 65 short lived sound era. The mid to late 60s the music evolved an changed so fast an so inspired as were the turbulent times
unbelievable that a human can have such an amazing powerful voice. it's an injustice that he's not as famous as hendrix, clapton, zeppelin, sabbath, etc..
It's so cool to hear him articulating in an intelligent manner just before the song. These days he mostly just nods in agreement during interviews. Though his ability to perform live seems to remain intact.
for me this is the definitive version. Surely this would have been the tour to see, this era is so much better than Elevators which gets all the attention. RIP
@@stevencharleston5546 Steven awwh..you I think on my page had mentioned you liked Roky too...Yes very sad..This song I love ..so many I love..Love you beautiful Steven!!
Why is he not in the Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame? He had monster records out in both the '60s and '70s. And he's my secone all-time favorite vocalists, second only to Bon Scott. I saw a documentary about him today on Sundance Channel. I hope he lives a productive life. He shoud die the way he lived. Like a king.
This band..I swear I've NEVER seen such a BAD-ASS band like this ever in my life!! Roky's lyrics are genius!! I know the hole in baby's head.... I LOVE that man!!! Words cannot describe his work & his awesome poetic style of writing! Incredible!!!
I remember first hearing Roky in the 80's pre internet. There were is many rumors and myths circulating about this mysterious guy. Amazing music, thanks Roky wherever you are now. We have an elderly schnauzer boy called Roky who looks a lot like the older Roky Ericson, everyone calls him Roky Rockstar 😊
Cam King is up there with Leslie West and Ace Frehley - one of the best guitarists of the 20th century. "Casting the runes" bootleg is pure genius solowork. Seeing him on tour '07 was outstanding.
Absolutely! Roky is among the very best, and yet least recognized musicians of all time... I suppose his presence is purely hypnotic. He has also attracted some outstanding people though, to back him on stage over the years. Well here's some footage, at least... .
Awesome! Great to know someone out there gets him! He is known now but I still think his song writing and musicianship is still overlooked by a lot of the musical world. I have an original Aliens poster from a 1980-ish, a friend of mine went to see them at the at the Whiskey in Cal. IN 1978. there are bootlegs from that show floating around. I think thats one of the best solo bands that he had,but the Explosives still rock! Some of the best stuff though is just him and an acoustic guitar.
Roky's awesome and he has his way about the way he pulls you into what he thinks is cool, like horror movies and music. I wish somebody would release all of this in it's proper form.
I dig this cat so godamn much you dig?I just commented that the man not only was the granddaddy of psychedelic, but one of the catalyst for horror rock!He endured being institutionalized at a fucked up asylum, survived his neurotic/schizo mom, imbibed every drug known to man(¬ just orally),had his mind worn down to scaffolding&fret work,& yet emerged more immaculate than ever...TWICE!!!!Took me years to determine who my favorite musician was,&just the other day Roky won!He is the genuine article
I've been into Roky since I hapend to hear his song 'Bloody Hammer, THAT was the first song of his I'de heard and THAT is the one that hooked me and got me curious about this guy. Then I got 'You'r Gon'a Miss Me; The Best of Rocky Erickson on Restless Records and playd it to everybody I've known since. This guy is certainly some very well-kept secret is'nt he? And a real enigma at that ( I still know so little about him! )
Perhaps it is a matter of perspective. I was in high school when You're Gonna Miss Me came out. I knew the Roky Erikson tragedy at the time. I feel he is a genius, a real survivor. Cobain was another genius, but he sure wasn't a survivor. There is nothing to be gained by comparing these two, I appreciate them both for different reasons. I am a musician. I played in Rock Bands for 15 years in NYC. I like a lot of very differen types oft music and find it impossible to say which is better.
Cam King and The Explosives by themselves? I will have to check that out, thanks! The Halloween '79-'81 live album is phenomenal. Duane Aslaksen of the Aliens was also pretty exceptional on the studio stuff.
"The Evil One" is the best possible intersection of psychoactive drugs, mental illness, science fiction and Rock'n'Roll
Well said.
Absolute truth.
R.I.P. Roky Erickson. Another legend done gone.
And yet his music will never die
shit. i've just learned he died by your comment.
Man his voice just sounds like pure energy and freedom
oh, yeah!!!
This is the perfect song. I've waited my whole life to hear this song. Everything about the sound, the era, when the drums kick in. This song is unbelievably good.
+Joe Large Every single song on This album is absolutely fantastic. No fillers. BLOODY HAMMER ftw!!!!! Oh and holy shit in Hemlock grove Famke Jennsen Karaokes "Creature with an Atom Brain." Mind blowing! lol
The first time I heard it I thought the same thing!
I met a guy. He was an asshole. But he introduced me to Roky. So the bullshit was worth it.
Roky was a hell of a rhythm player.
Ravner Rokt was a hell of a human being! (Thumbprint stąmped)
Goddamn what a great voice.
That rhythm guitar tone! Its like a chainsaw! Not to mention Roky's trademark absolutely wild vocals.
Billy Gibbons said Rokys voice was in a class all its own undefineable etc. For me nothing can compare when he lights that voice up it cuts straight to the bone then Roky could sing a ballad like Starry Eyes or Slash 1. @@scottconnors8419amongst who know, yes. Amongst laymen, no.
One of the meanest riff fests around! Hail Roky!
Thanks Roky. RIP. Never be another you.
So true, i love the way he sings.I could just listen forever, I don't know what it is.He has the perfect rock and roll voice.
It's the absolute wildness... The Evil One album was a study in raw intensity
The vocal harmonies in the chorus and wavery sound of the recording add a little fairy dust to strong performance of excellent song.
It's so cool to hear him articulating in an intelligent manner just before the song. These days he mostly just nods in agreement during interviews. Though his ability to perform live seems to remain intact.
Yeah man, I saw him last summer and he was awesome!
Sad day for rock and roll. R.I.P Roky
Roky is the poster child for "ROCK AND ROLL WILL NEVER DIE BUT IT'S ALWAYS BEEN A LITTLE BIT SICK!". RIP you gave your life for rock and roll.
the original horror rocker
Never heard of him, not sure how that happened.
Awesome Roky.........as well as those of us who love your music, David Grohl will keep your memory into the future
for me this is the definitive version. Surely this would have been the tour to see, this era is so much better than Elevators which gets all the attention. RIP

R.I.P Genius Roky. One of a kind.
Fuck me this song is brilliant.
Written by a two headed genius.
Fuck you you're right!
Two late great vocalist that blow me away are Steve Marriott and Roky E. Both of them had a raw and nasty tone I love

Roky can sing... high-pitched scratchy bluesy voice!!!!!
Such a shame I discovered Roky only a moment before he died. :(
