the song -- his guitar, voice, hair, face, raincoat... the wind, light, colours... everything is so poetic. and it's as if he had risen up from the grave.
Roky's life & music has been 1 of the most interesting in rock-n-roll history!. You Go Roky & you're the BEST Rocker out there!! Glad you're around still!! You are 1 tough mutha-fuckah & you are always in my heart...Much love & respect straight to you!! Too many kisses flying from my way too you!! Thank you for some of the greatest rock EVER!! (Clinches fist to the Gods of Rock)!!!
Roky has made a beautiful catalogue of music and shows how to be resilient when facing the toughest obstacles. God bless you, Roky, and those who care for him.
You people might like to seek out the movie Creature With The Atom Brain, a fairly good horror/sci-fi film is where he got the inspiration for this song, sometimes quoting dialogue form it.
I first had this recording on a 7"inch vinyl record which my daughter aged +/- 4 placed on a hot radiator. I got really depressed about it and I spend about 10 years to find a new clean copy. I finnaly did and she understood to leave her dad's collection alone. I never got angry I always loved her, cause you can not blame a child for being a child But with the advance of modern technology all this seems more irrationally
For me, this is the very best performance of this tune ever. There are many versions of his that are close, but to me this is the tops. Wish the whole show could turn up unedited in HQ though, as it still exists...
@AtticusStount I just love him! Saved me to brother! He's an original....that's all I look for in music and film and it's such a rare bird. Thank God for artists like Roky!
Holy Christ, makes me think - do ya think Curt was doing a Roky impression?????? Waaaaaay ahead of his time and definitely BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!! PLAY NEW YORK AGAIN REAL SOON ROC!!!
never knew much about this guy till after the zombie movie but I must say.. well done sir! well done indeed! although it doesnt mean much i salute you!!
Great raw footage! But the studio version includes some beautiful guitar work. Rocky has played with some talented individuals over the years... within that environment, his songwriting skills really seem to expand.
This mans talent was stolen from us. From making him plead insanity for a little weed. Years of mental hospital torchure. To a mentally ill controlling mother. It took so many years for him to get the right help. I can only imagine all the great music he could of made during that time. God bless your soul. I hope you are resting in peace.
BackTo Black I saw that scene too, in Hemlock Grove. That's what inspired me to find out who wrote this song. I can't believe I had never heard of this guy. He's got some great tunes. He was featured on Dave Grohl's Sonic Highway, the episode about Austin TX. I enjoyed Famke's cover, but I can't imagine there's actually a karaoke version of this song.
Can't be Roy Buchanan - he sadly hang himself in that cell in 1988,much later than this recording (from about '79-'80).Jim could also be Morrison, if you think there's a connection between Roky's words and famous dead people...I sure wouldn't mind get to know who he's talking about though! While at it, how about the 'claim' that Janis Joplin supposedly took Roky's screaming technique while singing with him for one or more occasions with the 13th Floor Elevators , which some say she did?
man Roky went through a LOT of shit, the government and LSD really fucked his whole life up. anybody see "You're gonna miss me"? he has one fucked up story.
"I feel like I'm a monster." He was wrong. The monsters are the ones who judge people like Roky. Or perhaps, the general public who's missing out on his music. One of those is a joke...
I was SO depressed after seeing nirvana, that they were so much more powerful and balls out than he was. Rocky is one of my favs and I've seen him live, but seeing nirvana live sold me man! Cobain was a fucking force of rock n roll nature!!
Clearly the best version of the song. I'll miss having this guy on the planet.
Aliens live alot longer
Gotta get our asses to Mars n get roky back
1000% facts. Easily the most underrated "rock" act ever!!!❤😢❤😢 Miss him.
the song -- his guitar, voice, hair, face, raincoat... the wind, light, colours... everything is so poetic. and it's as if he had risen up from the grave.
Genius. And what a voice. That's all I have to say about Roky.
" don't you recognize the voice Jim" ... Love it --
This is music in its purest non Comercial form !
The power of his voice is chilling.

But the studio version includes some beautiful guitar work. Rocky has played with some talented individuals over the years... within that environment, his songwriting skills really seem to expand.
Yes, we do.
Yeah. in the movie about him a couple people said that she saw him and how wild his voice was and put the same energy into hers.
Roky has an uncanny sense of rhythm. See the movie if you haven't already.
Roky might prefer that you don't know that he knows but it's probably okay if you know he's a genius.

its the characters from the movie creature with the atom brain
They shoulda packed this one on to that Voyager space ship. Just so that whatever is out there will know what they have in store if they come here.

@Canniballss ...work it out. it's easy... find the bass notes first...then make 'em into chords. You'll remember it more if you work it out too.
Well...if you want to believe that story, you can....
