I can't decide if Rose was intentionally trying to bring Alan back with her self insert fanfics or if she just decided to put out samplers of her fanfic around town just for the hell of it.

Odin and Tor can do all that crazy shit because they're how Alan (Zane?) cheats his own writing. Notice they always come into play when Alan needs to break the story in order to drive it in the direction he wants. He named them after gods, because of course that's a convenient hack way to justify their letting him cheat his own story. "We didn't know what to do, so...uh...we found the Anderson farm and drank their magic moonshine and it told us we needed to find Cynthia! Yeah! That's it!" "I don't wanna face my past, so Odin and Tor performed a musical for me so I could think about it in safety!" "Saga having a kid doesn't work, so she needs a spontaneous back story. Uh...oh! It's just all Odin and Tor! The whole backstory is just them! Yeah! I'm doing it! I'm forcing the story into the bullshit ending that makes me happy rather than the one that makes me acknowledge what happened to Alice (Barbara?)!" At least that's my interpretation of things. They're just his back pocket deus ex machinae.
@@drepdrained they are characters in Wake's story. Just inspired by the gods that Wake/Zane has heard of in real life. This whole story is Alan trying to face trauma by writing about it. The characters are just devices Alan is trying to use to do that.
@@VBane "Can't create" is a metaphor for an author not being able to make up a story entirely from scratch. Everything in a work of art comes from reality. Nothing was created. Just reconfigured. Alan in the story is saying that no character is purely the spawn of Alan's creative processes in isolation. Saga is probably based on a story Alan read in his real life about a woman whose child died while that woman was at work. Otherwise, his ideas of detectives and FBI agents surely come from something external to his own mind. He didn't create those ideas.

He can make two old guys that were at the doctor's home into super rock gods that had magic powers and magic moonshine and magic blah blah whatever else. Like they might have already existed and even been Odin and Tor from the Old Gods of Asgard (the band), but they could 100% have just been exactly that, regular old former band guys, before Alan or Zane changed them into whatever they are now. Remember that the Clicker's powers and even just the flashlight countering the darkness to be able to kill Taken are explicitly things that Alan/Zane wrote. They can absolutely invent magical powers as long as it fits the story.
