@@Mangozoom There’s been a few changes since the ‘Big Flu’. Yeah, sad to see it go although it was shut when I was there last September it’s since opened up again under a new name, so if you don’t mind getting shit-faced in front of one of the great views, then fill your boots! The Anchor has now closed - been bought by the local residents I believe - and will soon be turned into holiday flats. I’ve been ‘walking’ in Blanes since 1987 when Ricky’s Bar was the 'go to' night spot (only because mein host was a mate of mine from back home! Give The Secret of Sue a try. It’s in Carrer de San Jaume, off the fruit and veg market adjacent to the front. Roll on September #happydays
Thanks for the update, Don Quixote! It's sad to see The Anchor go, but I'll definitely give the new place a try. The Secret of Sue sounds intriguing-I'll make sure to visit when I'm there. Looking forward to my July trip, mate.
The Carnival in Blanes typically takes place in February, leading up to Ash Wednesday. The specific dates vary each year based on the timing of Lent, but the celebrations usually occur in the week or two before Lent begins. For exact dates, it’s best to check closer to the time or consult local resources, as the schedule can change annually.
Is Blanes officially the cheapest tourist destination in Spain, or is it still Benidorm? Could never go to Benidorm, it looks like a right sht hole. But Blanes looks nice.
Blanes and Benidorm both offer great value for tourists, but they're quite different in atmosphere and appeal. Benidorm is known for its lively nightlife and large expat community, which some people love but others, like you, might not find appealing. Blanes, on the other hand, is often praised for its more relaxed vibe and scenic beauty, making it a lovely choice if you're looking for a more peaceful and picturesque destination. While the "cheapest" title can vary depending on the season and specific deals, Blanes is definitely a great option if you're looking for affordability without compromising on charm. Enjoy your trip planning!
@Mangozoom Thank you for the response and explanation. I have been to about 10 places now from Fuengirola to Lloret de mar. This year, we went to Salou, and i wouldn't recommend it at all. Way too, tourists based. We basically went to the neighbouring towns on each side, which were beautiful. For 12 nights half board family of 4 it was just short of 3k but having to eat out for lunch every day and go out every night it was expensive ( well I think) I took 3k euro and had €270 left when we came back. Add to that around another £500 sterling we spent on card for activities. We both thought it was a very expensive holiday after paying for half board. Gone are the days (without kids) we would get all-inclusive for 6 nights for £350 each, and you brought change back from €500 spending money 😥
@@NapoleonDynamitesThanks for sharing your experience! It sounds like you’ve explored quite a bit of Spain. Salou does have a reputation for being very tourist-focused, so I can understand why you found it a bit much. Travel costs have certainly gone up, especially with a family in tow. It can be tough balancing enjoyment with budget, especially when those extra meals and activities add up. Blanes might be a good option for your next trip-more relaxed and possibly easier on the wallet. Also, considering self-catering accommodations could save on dining costs, giving you more flexibility. I hope your next holiday turns out to be both enjoyable and affordable! Safe travels!

Done that walk many times lol. 👍
Walking in Blanes never gets old. Thank you for watching 👍
@@Mangozoom Me too. Gutted that Can Tirol has closed down opposite Sa Palomera. Had some great pissy afternoons on the terrace there down the years.
That's a bummer! Looks like we'll have to find a new terrace to continue our tradition of epic afternoons. Got any contenders for our new hangout?
