12:07 That bit about being foamed up and the enemy hitting you with their board, even when you’re launched, there’s still a small chance a teammate can save you with their board assuming you’re launched towards them. It’s actually a feature in the game and not the lag that makes me a “clutch” moment for the save lol
I just randomly downloaded it becuase I got nothing else to do at that time and got absolutly surprised. The gameplay, the music, aesthetics and characters are just outstanding. Foamstars is something truly special to me.
Ty for this! Foamstars is so undeserving of the hate it’s been getting, especially with the “splatoon at home” line. I’m glad it’s doing well and it’s still active (que times are max 1-2 mins for me). Hopefully it lasts and next season looks sick.
Great video! I, like most people honestly did have this game written off as “haha funny splatoon live service rip-off everyone point and laugh” but honestly this game has so many great ideas and does actually seem to have a ton of passion behind it. There’s a lot about the format of the game that encourages teamwork but in a much more naturally, coordinated way then the stock team shooter “teamwork buttons” that we’ve all grown so used to seeing. The live service stuff is definitely a downer, but hopefully this game is able to get some genuinely good support in the future. Can’t wait for the next video!
I have never played a Nintendo game in my life. I was never interested in any of this company's games. The only exceptions are the Splatoon games, but I am not going to buy a Nintento console JUST for these games. So for me, Foamstars is a way to share some of the same experience that Splatoon players get. And after 16 hours, I can proudly say that I love this game. And although people may not agree, I will go ahead and say that the movement system of FoamStars is PERFECT as it is. I've seen a lot of Splatoon gameplay vids and although it's fun, it feels too snappy, with players being able to dive out of harm's way and recharge their weapons far, far too often. FoamStars making the reload slower and essentially making you a sitting duck for a few seconds is something I appreciate, because not only is it a break from the otherwise frantic pace of the game, but it also forces you to become more methodical with how you play. You gotta learn when to go after people and where and when to disengage and reload. It might feel frustrating at first (I also felt like that at the beginning), but then you'll start being more tactical with your approach, which not only means that you will be exposed far less often but also that you will be able to punish bad plays from other players who are not being as meticulous as you. Learning how to reload properly is a determining factor in this particular game. Aside from that, I agree with everything you said. The game can certainly improve in some areas (add more content, make a proper story instead of having the missions serve as nothing but tutorials for the characters, because these characters might lack depth right now but they are still fun and can certainly turn into actually memorable characters, and for the love of God tone it down with the monetization-maybe introduce a currency that you earn by playing that you can use to buy premium cosmetics-as long as you make sure that you earn it at a reasonable pace, you can satisfy both F2P and P2W players), but the hate this game receives is surreal. And it's sad to see people hate on a game that caters to a specific niche that few games represent while they hype yet another generic, by the numbers, space themed third person shooter like Helldivers 2. I am no fan of SE, but they went out of their way to make something different and no matter how much they have mishandled it (not much, the monetization is the only big problem here), this is not a game that deserves to die the way most people hope.
I like the game. It def needs more content and the bath survival mode stinks, but the star and ducky modes are a lot of fun, and nice and quick. I hate how many people have dismissed it bc they think it’s kiddy or splatoon
Thanks so much for watching everyone! Have you played Foamstars yet? If so, what did you think of it!! Join the discord server here! - discord.gg/NCD44sMRD8
For real. I knew not to trust what people said and tried it and of course I love it. Smash the star is a very good idea for a game mode. It allows you to carry a team if it’s needed.
Exactly...as a veteran of splatoon, I was quite excited for this game too after they released I changed the controls more like how splatoon would have them, then played the game and I’m Foaming for days...after playing a few I was hooked like crazy
being a fan of Splatoon, we have had this game for how long now? it's great to have an alternative than just one game for a billion years, I wanted something like this, where it's like a mix between Splatoon and Fortnite when u have more characters to choose from, Splatoon is great in its own way, foamstars will be the same down the road.
I was digging this games vibe since the announcement trailer during that showcase it looked like Splatoon had a baby with The World Ends With You it just looked so fun. Played the beta when they released it and I absolutely loved it I had so much fun and was completely addicted I got PS Plus just to play the full game 😅. I'm absolutely loving it my only real gripe is that the prices of the cosmetics are a bit ludicrous they need to tone it down a bit and personal gripe......I hate when someone picks Soa before I do 😅. Really hope this game is supported it's got a lot of potential ^__^
The microtransactions thankfully dont get in the way of how fun the game is, I havent touched them outside of getting one of the new characters, which i got for free anyway, and honestly theres no real reason to purchase anything because its just skins
Hey i never got to play splatoon but i love foamstars i got to gold rank and lvl 120 and i cant find match anymore from EU because the player count dropped i need to play on USA and Japaniese servers which really makes me sad so much it was such a long time since i enjoyed a game and just had purely fun with it i hope players come back and appreciate the game more ty for your video !
I know im pretty late to the video, but man, this is such an amazing video! 4 months later, and I'm still playing foamstars! It's such a fun game, but because of this whole idea that it's "a lazy splatoon rip off" that it ruins the chances of actually getting love. I think the problem is that most people parrot other people’s opinions without actually trying or giving things chances. There’s nothing wrong with not liking foamstars, but it's just so clear that most of these people who say it's a splatoon rip off didn’t even play the game themself. Not only that, but these same people make people who actually enjoy foamstars feel guilty or stupid for liking it. I don't think that anyone should feel guilty for enjoying something they like! Is foamstars perfect or the best game in the entire world? No, of course not, but that doesn't mean the game doesn’t have good elements! Overall, I think it's a wonderful game that deserves more love and chances from people. People shouldn't hate on it simply because they heard it from someone else. They should form their own opinion rather than clearly hate on something because someone else thinks its a splatoon rip off.
I am absolutely loving Foamstars. I am a Splatoon veteran but that didnt stop me from trying this game. Foamstars is a fresh game that took inspiration from Splatoon and created something new. Ive been calling it a game that punishes you for being a good player, which i have not seen a game do before. Becoming Star Player is hectic for sure
I used to talk about music in my videos but I noticed a lot of people stopped watching around those points, so I cut it from my scripts, but yes foamstars music is incredible and myself and my discord server members have been gushing about it all week
@@AstralKat right?!?! I honestly use the ost as training music when I'm playing fighting games! But I wish I could hear the music for the first time again,I fell in love so fast!
It looks soooo fun but i will forever not be able to play it bc its a ps5 exclusive LOL not nearly enough games to justify a ps5 yet :( thank you for making a video talk about this!
Only thing tht i dont agree with is that they should have blown their whole content load immediately, maybe having an extra map per game mode and one more mode with tht appropriate number of maps would be good tho, great vid, love that a splatoon fan is being reasonable lol
Id still recommend trying the game out, the season passes dont actually add anything other than cosmetics and a new character that you can pay for individually
The was set up to be a failure i can tell your going to be like "you never give it a try and you splatoon fans are the reason the game failed." Splatoon 3 keeps growing at a positive rate and the latest season trailer has seen a lot of positive feedback
I mean you should give it a try, the game is really good. I'm not trying to say splatoon fans are the reason it failed, I said splatoon fans were way too harsh on the game, I want both experiences to co-exist. because this shouldnt be a market where one game just dominates and everything else is called a lazy rip off or a clone, this game has a lot of genuine heart behind it and a lot of love put into the finer details, and I want it to succeed and become a game that fans of splatoon can recognise as another game they can play.
I was one of the people who clowned on this game, but it seems like the marketing was just really bad at showing off what makes this game unique. Still won't play it since the only playstation console I own is the ps2 and I hate microtransactions, but at least it doesn't seem like it's ripping off Splatoon as much as it originally seemed.
I don't think you mentioned this but, one thing that it heavily undermines the game, is the "passive system" for your character, as it's completely RNG and has a timer, with a currency that I think you get with each level. Seriously makes the grind for the right stat a bit annoying, and some characters like, say, Mel T suffer from even longer reloads and can use a buff with a stat bonus...which it's random! Otherwise, your take are pretty much the same, including the slow reload, the inability to reload while surfing, and also the lack of content. But frankly speaking, knowing the publisher, I'm worried about its future than the lack of content...
The micro transactions is kinda ruining it for me. I was interested in because I actually wouldn’t mind a “splatoon-like” despite how much it was getting clowned on. But the micro transactions… yeah I don’t know if I can afford it. I already play Overwatch and while I mainly just get the battle pass and not skins that often it’s still a lot. I also have other things I’m committed in for games. And if it’s genuinely as good as you say- I don’t want to enable going more bankrupt in videos games. I’m not playing it because I can’t afford another battle pass and skins- especially when you have to grind to get your worth out of it. I’m already grinding 2 games. I don’t got the time either.
maybe just dont buy the skins, and enjoy a fun game thats completely free with a PSplus subscription anyway? There isnt really any grinding necessary and the battle pass that it offers doesnt give you any advantages
@@AstralKat yeah I could do that. I tried to do that with Overwatch 2. Also essentially free, and the battle pass is purely cosmetic to the game itself. But I’m buying battle passes and skins still for it. I’ve learned I’m kinda susceptible to temptations like this. Not as bad it COULD be. I don’t spend my whole paycheck or anything. But trying to practice not falling for the bait that micro transactions give. I’m working on the habits I already have. Don’t need another game tempting my slightly addictive personality. Hopefully with time I’ll be better at this and I can trust myself with the game. I’m trying to ween myself from the addictive mirco transactions so I can hopefully be able to fully resist them. That involves “not buying more brands of alcohol” if ya get me. It sucks but that’s what I PERSONALLY have to do. :( It’s good that you don’t have this problem though! And if others don’t have too bad of an addictive personality when it comes to micro transactions then it’s worth playing the game! I’m just going to have to shelf it for now. I might try to follow the community around it though if I can’t play it myself for a while.
Confirmed there's use of ai and that ubisoft are basically an nft company at this point even though nft's have basically died (Some companies put a lot of money into it and are unwilling to give up)
Editing this comment because I did my own research, I see now that yes they did use AI for some of the album covers, which is scummy yes but that doesn't actually involve the gameplay at all, not trying to defend it but still.
my main issue with people bringing up the AI "album art" is that it's FAR from the worst thing Square has done with AI, yet people completely ignore that as part of the general dismissiveness people have had towards the game. the ONLY official localization of The Portopia Serial Murder Case, a historically significant visual novel that influenced developers such as Hideo Kojima. is a broken "remake" tech demo that uses AI for it's text parser which is somehow less accurate than the original non-AI one from 1983. (later ports, including the well-known Famicom version, also had already replaced it with a more standard list of commands.) people also have forgotten Square has dipped into NFT stuff with projects like Symbiogenesis. so it's pretty clear they're perfectly willing to try ANYTHING if it could possibly make money. and it's likely the art (and probably the live service elements as well) was something forced into the game by the higher-ups.
At least someone agrees that foamstars is getting hated on far too much because of splatoon similarities.
12:07 That bit about being foamed up and the enemy hitting you with their board, even when you’re launched, there’s still a small chance a teammate can save you with their board assuming you’re launched towards them.
It’s actually a feature in the game and not the lag that makes me a “clutch” moment for the save lol
Oh nice! I had to play on American servers because the ones in my country were down so I just assumed its lag, but thats a genuinely great feature!
That happened to me a few times. It feels great when a team member stops you getting knocked out after being launched by a rival player.
That star player mechanic seems baller as hell.
I can confirm, it's a pretty nice mechanic
Agreed, my team were losing 7-1 and we made a comeback just by keeping the Star player alive ^^
