12:24 C96KJ it is a simple ESD Protection chip (bunch of diodes inside). which can protect against ESD or polarity mistake. The chip name is: TVLST2304AD0 or SU0524A6GTR or AZC099-04S. So the laptop can work without it (until another mistake with battery connection - then the damage will be worst :))
Hi Sorin, I think it is AZC099-04S ... a few diodes and a zener ESD Protection ... it's available and cheap, please replace it... you probably have it on some donor board.
@@Skarz289Hi. Type ''chip component C96KJ'' in the search bar of your browser and you will have the equivalence:AZC099-04S.R7G AZC099-04S C96 SOT23-6, as simple as that, hope that help for the future...
I agree with you! Coincidentally, I have another HP board here that uses the same IC and labels it D2400. From the look of things it provides ESD protection to the USB data lines.
I have this laptop and did the same thing because the new battery had the label on the opposite side (probably counterfeit) and I didn't pay attention to the connector orientation. Genius design HP! I replaced it with a C96KJ from the SD card reader daughterboard because I'll never use it and the laptop still works fine today.
Finaly I found in this episode what I was waiting for long time. You took repairs to next level and started removing and not replacing chips from motherboards. No chip no shorted chip. Still I think there is a lot components that are redundant. I am waiting for episode to strip motherboard for minimal components setup. Lets say processor, some resistors, IC chip maybe.
I would assume the chip will ground the 3,3V when something goes wrong, such as the battery being plugged in the other way to protect the rest of the system.
Hi Sorin, good job as Always, but think Is better you tell computer shop to replace It or the laptop live until next battery.. bye Francesco Timpano from Florence Italy
Thank you. Looking at this motherboard, can you describe to me how to identify the power switch connector? I don't have a schematic. TIA for your help with this.
Hi everyone I've got an asus rog strix gl series with a wird problem . Bios menu works fine but when post (loading windows ) it suddently turn off . Its like cutting the power . Anyone any ideea or advice ( is not the ram memory or sdd already tried . Thanks in advance
No, that's just a generic reference for each component followed by a serial number. i.e: R for resistors, RN for resistor networks, D for diodes, F for fuses, C for capacitors etc. Unfortunately, in this case, EU is not a common designator for TVS diodes.
Apple made a call to HP to do this to make sure Sorin will never be the king of England. If he will be the king he will have access to schematic, data sheets and what he needs to make a proper callibrated repair with original parts at a fair price. By letting the customer be able to plug in the battery 2 ways will make a statment that only HP (i mean Apple) can make this kind of high level repair with a motherboard repair (replacement with a new laptop with the price of 2). This way it will prevent Sorin to accept his defeat and throw the laptop in the ocean and make the planet go under. This is a true story trust me...
That battery design is "proper stupid". Don't laptop batteries have the sticker with all the text and markings, on the side where it can be read as soon as you open the laptop?
it's likely to be Chinese copy battery. original batteries are VERY expensive and most people will not buy it. The Chinese copy has the label on the wrong side because Chinese copy factory doesn't care about quality control, they only care about money ;-)
They are supposed to. Glad the issue was one that is easily fixed though. Those TVS diodes are awsome for protecting laser diodes BTW, solder them in as close as possible and no ESD problems ❤
That chip is a transient suppressor. I'm surprised you didn't know that since you work on a lot of laptops. HP likes to put a lot of these all over their boards.
HP probably calls this the idiot protection chip, especially integrated into the motherboard for the people that don't check the manual on how to replace the battery 🥲
this is your mistery chip: TVL ST23 04 AD0 it is a tvs array, it saved the rest of the board
That's what I was thinking off the top of my head, ie, some sort of double diode crowbar protection thingy - lol -.
how did you know that if I may ask?
Yep👍
Thanks !!!
the fact the chip was there, HP know someone will put the battery the wrong way 😂

Correct

Totally agree, if Sorin doesn't replace the chip, this laptop will probably last until it will need another battery replacement.
I agree with you! Coincidentally, I have another HP board here that uses the same IC and labels it D2400. From the look of things it provides ESD protection to the USB data lines.
The chip is AZC099-04S it’s used for ESD protection for high speed data lines
You improved the design: no chip, no dead chip!
Hi Sorin, the chip is family of AZ099-04S and is an ESD protection with all diodes and 1 zener across pin 2 and 5 which is possible shorted out
I have this laptop and did the same thing because the new battery had the label on the opposite side (probably counterfeit) and I didn't pay attention to the connector orientation. Genius design HP! The chip is
AZC099-04S
and it's a tvs array. Protection on 3v3 rail
with this battery design that chip it is a must chip
Hi Sorin,
On Ali Express the Chich C96KJ is sold as a voltage regulator.
(20PCS AZC099-04S.R7G AZC099-04S C96 C96KJ SOT23-6 IN STOCK)
It's diodes protectors
protect sensitive components, which
are connected to data and transmission lines,
from over-voltage😊

Still I think there is a lot components that are redundant. I am waiting for episode to strip motherboard for minimal components setup. Lets say processor, some resistors, IC chip maybe.
You seem upset
My guess is that chip probably is a reverse polarity protection diode or a tvs diode ?
Yep TVS Diode and ESD protection
I would assume the chip will ground the 3,3V when something goes wrong, such as the battery being plugged in the other way to protect the rest of the system.
Your mic is better now. Not so loud. It feels natural. 😊
Nice one , the chip looks like a protection diode
👏👏👏perfect... your so being practical... where all voltages biasing is all fine... thats why i realy like to watch your videos...
No unknown chip ---> No burned unknown chip!
Sorin for future faults, mark the top side of the battery with "this side up" or sth.
probably some kind of protection zener because it does not make sense that it has 3.3 on all pins except the ground!
It was, fine❤
Hi. AZC099-04S Low Capacitance ESD Protection Array For High Speed Data Interfaces
Now that you've removed the tvs array next time around if they replace the battery and screw up the polarity KABOOM goes the laptop.
It is for IO ESD protection.
Hi Sorin, good job as Always, but think Is better you tell computer shop to replace It or the laptop live until next battery.. bye Francesco Timpano from Florence Italy
That is wistron board kind a hard to repair if no signs physical of damage
Brilliant fix Sorin thanks
Excellent work and video!
that is an SOT-26 ESD protection diode.. with the marking code of TVLST2304AD0
Hi Sorin, maybe there is a chip for typical application.
For SD Card driver or LAN port or USB port.
I suspect that it is a "LSK489 SOT-23 6L ROHS" Low Noise, Monolithic Dual N-Channel JFET Amplifier
HP or lenovo which do i avoid more?
I saw 3 more chips which are seem useless. Could you take them out either to avoid causing problems in near future?
check on da screen, check on da screen !
Hi Folks,
No matter what kind of component, @ HP, it is registered in the obsolescence program.Cheers
Thank you. Looking at this motherboard, can you describe to me how to identify the power switch connector? I don't have a schematic. TIA for your help with this.
It's a proper calibrated wire placeholder. What else?
😂
That should be a protection. You have normally 3.3 voltage on each pin, but when reverse the polarity, what happens there?
Alibaba has chip C96KJ listed as a voltage regulator.
Probably just old standard hp tactic "protection diode" or how to call it :D
Hi everyone I've got an asus rog strix gl series with a wird problem . Bios menu works fine but when post (loading windows ) it suddently turn off . Its like cutting the power . Anyone any ideea or advice ( is not the ram memory or sdd already tried . Thanks in advance
The chip seems to be a TVS diode array.
What I found is that it should be AZC099-04S. It can be for video graphic card, USB 2.0 power and data lines
If it's the Quanta sb8 rev. 3 schematic you need then yes I have it..
Hi, Sorin! Im serching for ,,ok,, thermocamera. Not the expensive one, but what could you suggest for the beginner?
No chip, no problem. No capacitor, no problem.
AZC099-04S C96 C96KJ SOT23-6
protection for usb I guess
Look for "HP Envy TouchSmart 15 15SBGV2D-6050A2548101-MB-A02" boardview "D9001"
Looks like it is step down controller comes under SOT23
If laptop everything looks like fine means... I guess that's protection diode.
Motherboard model 17889-1 L20713-601
i think this is the correct one
we have picture i can't believe we don't care that chip hahaha
AZC099-04S ESD diode group
Someone put battery label sticker wrong side of the battery clearly.
The screws holes from the batterie tells allot , no ? 😑
Thought the motherboard had the part number printed next to the chip?
No, that's just a generic reference for each component followed by a serial number. i.e: R for resistors, RN for resistor networks, D for diodes, F for fuses, C for capacitors etc. Unfortunately, in this case, EU is not a common designator for TVS diodes.
Ah ok, apologizes, great vid's though @@viniciusvbf22
He did read the marking on the chip but refused to spend 10 seconds to google it. He engaged with his audience by asking anyone know what this is

Hello🤝
AZC099-04S
Low Capacitance ESD Protection Array
For High Speed Data Interfaces
Revision 👋👋👋👋👋
AZC099-04S C96, ESD chip
Boa dica
ASUS X550LC has this part from reading google
I think its a crowbar chip . it dead short to protect the circuits
It is a proper calibrated duck...
Ten chip to zabezpieczenie zapewne linii danych bateria EC. Bez niego też będzie działało.
Nice repair ❤👍👍👍
Has to be a reverse diode but that's crazy.
I think just "Overvoltage protection"
That's stupid why is the label of the battery on the wrong side?
I think for usb
It is a azc099-04s
I think chip was used to protect the motherboard from wrong battery and wrong power supply
power ic,you found this ic on ebay
Lots of battery jobs recently!
AZC099-04S
That is voltage limiter
Not hurt our screen😅
the chip is made by worldway electonics
NO! that is simply one of the vulture-like companies that re-sells IC
That battery design is "proper stupid". Don't laptop batteries have the sticker with all the text and markings, on the side where it can be read as soon as you open the laptop?

Can't believe 😂😂😂
17" laptop :)
HP = Hinge Problem ;)
It wont break the bank Sorin less then 10p for a new chip, please replace it
ESD Diode 🦆 🤷🏼♂️
Bad design and bad battery label emplacement the manufacturer should've put it on the other side of the battery
That chip is a transient suppressor. I'm surprised you didn't know that since you work on a lot of laptops. HP likes to put a lot of these all over their boards.
But first to say Free Julian. Assange now.
Hello 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂👍👍👍👏👏👏👋👋👋👋
It’s a smoking 🚬 chip maybe it’s stopped smoking 🚬 now😂
it is AZC099-04S
maybe needs a proper calibrated wire.,😜
c96kj mosfet
So you can replace with a proper calibrated NOTHING :D :D :D
Act as a diode
“Who cares anyway”
First
3 wtf ?
Another dodgy repair.
HP probably calls this the idiot protection chip, especially integrated into the motherboard for the people that don't check the manual on how to replace the battery 🥲
the true idiot is the design engineer who put the battery connector exactly in the middle so it is reversible.
