When I saw how long the video was I thought it might drag on,I was wrong what magnificent views and how awesome are those roads. I'm not surprised that you met so many Aussie's every one I talk to lately has just got back from Europe, probably because they haven't been able to go for a couple of years, thanks covid. I really enjoyed your review as well.
Hey thanks so much Ben!! It was a struggle to edit it down to that length! There was so much more great footage hence going through it all and deciding which to share was pretty time consuming on this one... but I was also pretty conscious on trying to keep the time down to something semi-reasonable.
I'd suggest putting some of the extra footage on youtube ,I would watch it, I wouldn't mind seeing some on bike footage of the M1000R along the Great Ocean Rd if you have any.
Cheers @@benmaisano4484 - I may just do that if I get a chance. There isn't a lot of footage of the M1000R I can share unfortunately. Lets just say thats for license preservation reasons...
Ohh Ive done this trip with my little Duke 390! I was the best thing I have ever done! And now I am buying SMT (probably) so I guess I will have to repeat this trip in summer 2024.. ;)
It’s a shame to say but over the last 14yrs I’ve ridden about 130,000km commuting and never left Sydney. When you watch content like this you realise how much you’re blowing it. I’ve thought about this bike( I’ve got an XSR900 )the idea that I could break the confines of the city even if it doesn’t happen knowing you could on a bike like this would be enough.
What an epic trip! i did something simular last summer with the family in an RV.the mountain passes and lakes (we swam in several) are breathtaking.i will definetly be back on a bike. i rode the Transfagarasan and Transalpina roads in Romania 2 years ago.Epic as well, without the crowds you encouter in the Alps in summer.Romania is still relatively unknown, but Transylvania is beautifull.Tourism is still in it's infancy though. But the people are lovely.
Great review! And a wonderful place to do it. I have ridden some of those roads and been to some of those towns and your video makes me want to go back. Thank you.
Mountains are my favourite scenery, and riding through them is the best way to enjoy them. You caught the majesty of the region, thanks 👍 I’ve done some of those roads on a Ducati Supersport, and loved every mile.
Postcard perfect, funny I was thinking how nice it would be to fly a plane through those passes , just before the hornets took off. I cant fly mind you , I would have been just as happy thrashing that SMT, you where so fortunate to have that trip, thanks for sharing.
Waou Wayne!!! What a trip and great video editing! Looks like a lovely trip on a great bike! Are you willing to share the route plan for your trip as I am considering going my self. Thanks for the inspiration
Awesome Wayne!!! Definitely on my list one day and you chose a great bike to do it on. I'm looking at trying to fit my 790 Duke wheels to my Norden and make a Norden SMT.
@@Vicko026 HAAN already make a 17 inch set for the Norden but point taken, There is a forum post of someone who has done it with good results. Best of both worlds hopefully!
Maybe the best bike video I've ever seen. What time of year was this? I've copied down your itinerary, where did you rent the bike from? Thanks for the effort to make this, you wheelied in all the appropriate places! Ahhh, finished the video and see you got the bike from KTM, probably not keen to loan one to me.
@@anonymousanonymous8306 cheers for the praise, apologies I missed this comment earlier. My mates in the vid did rent their bikes, so its obviously doable. And yes I had to edit out a lot of wheelies for fear of it being just a wheelie video LOL
16:58 the disrespect XD great video man, (so far at least :) ) I'm thinking about trading my 790adv for 890smt aaand I think Im very close to that decision!
The wind protection is surprisingly good for a small screen like this. In practise I use my SMT 80% and my BMW 1250 GSA 20% of the time. The technical problems that I had with BMW are always always always my fault and as such not under warranty. That is why I will will sell my GSA and never buy a BMW again. My next long distance bike will probably be Honda or Yamaha.
Awesome video mate ! Glad you enjoyed our local Alps 🇨🇭 Ps,Tolken got his inspiration for the elf world in Lauterbrunnen. You know the lord of the rings
Incredible trip, stunning part of the world up there. KTM SMT seems like a pretty good "do most things well" bike, and not much competition. Maybe V2 Multistrada and MT09 Tracer GT would be similar.
Hi can you please share the route. I have a tracer and my friend has a vfr crossrunner and we have planned an epic tour for this summer with a similar route to yours.. I would love to extend the route to a few of the passes you went to... thanks a lot in advance
The real question is 890smt vs 1290 SAS? - What would be the real life advantage of 890smt over 1290SAS? - except the price tag difference which diminishes a lot after dealer discounts.
User friendliness, Nimbleness and agility. I'd be far more likely to have a real crack at a nice piece of road on the 890SMT. Not that the 1290 isn't capable which it clearly is - and a better proposition for more comfortable touring with more luggage/pillion etc, but that's not the sort of riding I lean towards naturally.
The guy in the 911? I was happy enough to listen to the old air cooled donk for a bit, he wasnt holding me up that much. He was just enjoying the road, nothing dangerous.

Passing the old dudes on bikes while wheelie-ing on a twistie mountain road 😂😂😂❤

The two weeks prior to the above trip I was in Romania. They really are lovely people. Late night Palinka and pig fat. And Papanasi!
What a beautiful place to ride.
Are those mirrors from KTM powerparts? Where did you get them from?
Correct - they were a KTM powerpart pre-fitted to the bike. You should be able to get some from your local dealer or online.
The road, the view, the small town, the buildings, what a beautiful place, I wish I live there, I forgot the video about 890smt review 🥹

Fantastic adventure. Thanks for sharing this. Truly EPIC!

Epic! Just be sure to consider geometry- you might need taller front forks like they’ve done on the smt to compensate for the smaller front 👍

Hahahaha - was certainly a bit of fun that morning :)
Really enjoyed the video well done! I am currently looking at buying this bike. What sort of fuel range did you get?
Hi Ian, I was getting past 250kms comfortably. Stretching that out past 300 more times than not before top ups.

I did not know that! I can see how though.
so niceeee!! how was the wind protection with that medium size windshield?
Pretty good really. Thumbs up
Great video, this bike looks awesome. What windscreen is that? I can’t find any other ones on the power parts and the one fitted doesn’t look stock.
Hey Wayne - it was a power part option that screen, maybe have a chat to your dealer if you cant find it online.

Where did you get the windshield?
Its a KTM hard part accessory

great video man !! what camera have at helmet?
is it easy to tell the settings ? like iso, shutter, fps and nd filter ?
Cheers mate - Just the stereotypical GoPro's mate. Pretty standard settings, either using wide or linear lens depending on the field of view.
"Ya mates are shithouse" HAHAHA Only a true Aussie wouldn't get offended.
Did you get any vibes from the bike through the bars , which would you take on this trip the KTM or a tiger 900 GtPro?
No the vibes were fine. Either bike would be awesome. Just depends on personal tastes there. That triple engine is a peach though... :)
That was a great trip! I'm bushed 😂
I need to learn how to do them wheelies... Clutch ups?
Get out and practise :) I'm a bit weird in that I dont use the clutch.. just hesitate the throttle and bounce it up.
How did you find the screen as I'm thinking of adding the same one?
There are 2 factory screen options. This one, and an even larger one!
There's even a deflector option for the stock mask.
Hey mate the screen was good - I wouldn’t get a taller one than that, but everyone is different 👍
Wayne, a brilliant collection of fantastic roads, scenery and good Commentary. Really enjoyed that, can't wait to get my SMT out on a tour next year.

so fucking cool! any way you'd be willing to share the gpx files? or did you just run google maps between all your stops?
Cheers Mick - just used Google maps
Have you had any mechanical breakdowns on your KTM? How is the reliability?
I've got the same engine in my 890R and it's been fine for 3 years. Just servicing. I ride it hard as its my twisty road bike. No issues at all.
Then ask them to see if the cams went flat.
That’s an amazing trip. Guy in the 911 needs to stay in his lane. No driving fool
