as someone who started with breath of the wild and went back to the older games (and loved them), I'm glad you had a similar experience! Somehow I get nostalgia from this game even though I only beat it last year, and it really does have a special charm to it. Every 3d zelda has something completely unique to offer really, and that's why I like the series so much! Hope you enjoy majora's mask, that's also a very unique game.
As someone who played oot when it was launched, i was convinced that the new generations will not enjoy this game. But i'm glad that i was wrong. I love how zelda evolved.
This was such a good watch. My favorite game of all time, seeing someone experience it for the first time, while making it fun and entertaining, and condensing the whole journey to two hours was such a winning combination. Thanks for the great editing, entertaining gameplay, and appreciating my fav game ever :)
It always warms my heart to see new players experience this game for the first time and enjoying it. I grew up with this, so I can never be certain if my high opinion of it comes from bias or it actually being good, so I'm glad to see that not all of it is bias. I usually describe this game to people as it being one of the most video-gamey video games ^^
Did you play games at the same age that you don't even remember or that you thought were pretty bad, especially in comparison? Yeah than it's not just nostalgia. 😅
@@borstenpinsel I don't have specific memories of Rugrats for N64 being bad, but I do remember that I could never quite figure out what to do. I have never looked up footage of it in recent years, so I can only assume it's bad

It’s satisfying that you’re using the shield & Z targeting properly. Seeing lots of content creators playing these classic Zeldas for the first time, aimlessly attacking is a bit frustrating sometimes 😂
28:04-28:13 You're supposed to hide under the Hylian Shield when the rocks are falling, but there's actually an easy way to cheese that. The rocks are programmed to fall on your location when you're not moving, or a set distance in front of you when you're moving at a certain speed or higher. In front of you is the important bit here. Walking backward by holding the target button and pulling back on the left stick is the fastest form of non-glitched movement, and at that part, aligning yourself properly beforehand gives you a straight shot to the climbing wall. Plus, since you're moving backward the rocks will always miss you as long as you keep moving.
One of the most beautiful video games ever made. Game truly shows that a video game can be a piece of artwork. From the gameplay design, music, the colors, the story, the characters, this game bursts with creativity. It's both light-hearted and deep. Despite the passage of time and the advancement in Technologies, this game will always transcend time.
It's probably the only game from my childhood that I still play to this day and it truly makes me feel the same, or at least the same I remember i felt when I played it for the first time. Is so nice to see ppl here on the comments that also love this game as art more than just a videogame
Dude, I've never watched someone play a full game on TH-cam before. This is my favorite game and I've played it so many times but I've never watched someone else play it. The fact that you appreciated the design elements, took the story seriously, and clearly enjoyed playing the game made my day. And the fact that you really appreciated the stress and the emotion of the ending. Never took time to appreciate how cool the ending is with everybody dancing at the farm. Loved that you loved it. Glad I watched.
Being a massive Zelda fan since the beginning, I've watched a lot of retrospect videos. And they're all by people who weren't really there when the game dropped so they don't understand not just the feeling of how amazing it actually was, but also the anticipation leading up to it. Your video avoided spending hours to talk about the emotions of the tree branches and just let me listen as you experienced the game first hand. And it took me back to 1998 again. It was like sitting with someone and hearing them enjoy the game for what it is. Not comparing it to other games or life in general. I got to play it for the first time again vicariously through you lol. I thoroughly enjoyed this video. I barely watched it, listened while working. And I still knew exactly where you were by your commentary and reaction. I'm looking forward to your Majora's mask one now, which I'm "watching" next. Keep it up. This is the kind of nostalgia itch that a retrospective video just can't quite scratch.
Princess Zelda voice: Teen Girl Squad from Homestar Runner. Princess Ruto voice: Miss Piggy. Fun to watch you enjoy this absolute classic for the first time.
As a big Zelda fan since I can remember, it's so nice to read the description and see a person who never played Zelda recognize it as "one of if not the greatest game of all time" thanks for giving so much respect to OoT. New sub!
I played this game a few years ago with no nostalgia for the Zelda series and wow. I played the 3ds version and it was fantastic even in 2020 when I played it. Such an enjoyable game. I completely understand the hype with this game. I can see how mindblowing it would have been back in 1998.
This is one of the games that reminds me how much I dont regret being a gamer as a kid and teen. Hiking and climbing got me away from it... but if I had to do it all over again.. no hesitation
I don’t know why, but it took me forever to beat Queen Gohma! Maybe it’s because I’m playing the original on an actual n64 and I’m not used to the controls? I don’t know. All I know is that it took me 4 attempts to beat her. I’m currently in Dodongo’s cavern and despite having 7 hearts from collecting heart pieces across the map, I’m still scared I’ll die to King Dodongo like Gohma, despite having a healing item and a fairy. I’m honestly a little scared to fight him for some reason. But seeing you, and other people play is slowly giving me the courage to fight him seeing how confident they are and stuff. So thanks to you, I’m finally going to be courageous and fight him! I thank you for this. : )
I'm really glad I came across someone playing it for the first time as an adult. I remember being 4 or 5 and watching my mom play it. I don't even remember the first time I played it. But I love it and play it often. I remember trying to play it with a joystick that drifted so badly getting the megaton hammer was ridiculous.
1:23:19 This is the trap of OoT and this fight. People instinctively hold forward while attacking and that's the stab attack which Dark Link always counters by jumping on your sword. you want to swing without holding a direction.
In Breath of the Wild, with the Champion's Ballad DLC, in Mipha's dairy, she talks about a legend of a zora princess that marries a hylian knight. That legend is talking to Ocarina of Time Link and Ruto.
Probably not. He should be referred to as "hero of time" as Link is called throughout the game and not as "Hylian knight" which could be any other knight in the kingdom. Nintendo never made it explicit in the official lore, but anyone can see that the couple who are always destined to meet again and again are Link and Zelda.
@@AlexanderPR2according to the lore link is cursed to reincarnate every time demise, or one of his forms, appears. Zelda is always the goddess hylia, who ends up appearing to help her former knight. Not every reincarnation of them end up with each other, as seen in twilight princess where that link was the grandson of ocarina of time/Majora's mask link, and he was not related to Zelda.
I always thought Link and Malon get married, though I could see Link honoring the engagement stone from ruto... Or he decides to wife both of them but Ruto is more symbolic because I don't think he can procreate with her and twilight princess link is a direct descendant. Unless of course he married one or the other depending on the timeline?
@@swarley39 At least in the child timeline I think a lot of stuff hints toward Link and Malon getting together, yes. In particular, the spirit of Ocarina Link (Hero's Shade) actually strongly hints at that games' Link being a direct blood relative of his, so his marriage to Malon in that case seems far more likely since the Link in TP is a farmhand in a frontier village on the outskirts of Hyrule. Plus depending on the timeline, if it's child he and Ruto never made the promise in the first place, and in adult he straight up is removed from the timeline by what Zelda did.
i suggest that you now watch the "speedrun world record" of Ocarina of time. not the glitched one with code input, teleportation, and what now. the rela stuff that does each dungeon. it's just AMAZING how they optimize every single minute things
My entry into the Zelda universe was ALttP. It's pretty cool to see a (somewhat) younger Zelda fan going back to try past games and appreciating them like you clearly do.

I assume they just share a damage property. when you walk on spikes you take damage every few steps while you run. not always immediately but iirc the exact same way you do on lava.
@@Altamos0023 Nah I’m pretty sure that when you step on them it just deals fire damage or something along those lines (the only spikes I’ve tried it on though is the ones in that one room in the shadow temple)
I love when new players play games that I've played countless times and somehow do stuff that I never thought of doing! I just recently replayed oot on my 3ds and never has it crossed my mind to use the deku nuts to stun the tough enemies like the gerudo warriors or dark link 😭 it would've made my life so much easier lol
I'm so glad you enjoyed this game. Im a bit peeved that chat backseated and spoiled some of the journey for you but its hard to avoid stuff like that in this day and age unfortunately. I hope you get to play more of these in the future! I was practically raised by these games
TIL you can knock down the flame dancer with bombs been playing oot for like 25 years Edit:also apparently you can hit bongo bongos hands with the sword to stun them
After a while of digging I figured out that naburu that that the witches made work for ganondorf is actually named after neborus even though she has nothing to do with anything of the sages and being named after a Divine beast
Idk to me Majoras Mask is the better game. Growing up I watched my cousins play OoT but never got into it, and then I ended up getting Majoras Mask and it became one of my favorite games of all time. I fell in love with the dark themes and complex gameplay loop. Going back to OoT it just feels so much more simple and slower and light hearted. And the camera... my God the camera.
I kinda get why OoT is more popular, it was so much easier to pick up and get into. I remember that my friends had trouble getting past the 1st cycle in MM and I myself had major trouble starting in Snowhead. Good times. Also the themes flew right over my head when I was younger and I didn't (or rather couldn't) appreciate the awesome side quests at all.
I remember not being able to figure out Great Bay Coast with the eggs and pirates and all that. Took my brother and I literal years of trying before we ended up actually making progress lol @@dreamz1417
As a kid I hated MM for the first Cycle. Now it's my favourite Zelda. I always loved the melancholy in MM. The moon, The apocalyptical scenario.. the last 5min on day 3, the music, the Bell, It's so well done.
I like to chill for hours in games so MM was always an absolute nightmare for me. I'm just not the type of person who can bear this kind of mechanic. the vibes are cool tho
57:57 Stalfos take five hits with the Master Sword. Whenever I fight this pair, I hit one four times and then switch targets. As long as you're targeting one, Stalfos AI won't let others interfere. As a side note, not sure if you noticed but Stalfos actually fight most like Link out of any in the game. I know there are a couple other enemy types that target and strafe like you, but Stalfos can string together chains of standard sword attacks, and unlike Dark Link the jump attacks of Stalfos actually do double damage. Also unlike Dark Link, Stalfos actually do the same amount of damage as Link with the Master Sword does.
I ve been playing the game for 23 years, I've completed it 2-3 times and I've completed deku tree 20-25 times I didn't know I could stun Gohma with a deku nut...
"The little cut scene that shows the water going up and an opening, I completely missed that." Welcome to being a12 year old and almost breaking my controller because crt tvs were so dark and I couldnt figure that part out. 😂😂
41:44 Something that may or may not interest you about Barinade. Nothing about the fight, just something in its design. In the 3DS version of the game, the three tendrils rooting it to the ceiling are color-coded red, blue, and green. Also, the blue Parasitic Tentacle is more clearly blue. Anyway, the color changes I'm referring to make it obvious that Barinade is the root of those Parasitic Tentacles. That might be obvious since the way Barinade is anchored to the 'ceiling', not to mention the clearly wounded look of the center of the boss room, both the ceiling and the floor, make the boss' parasitic nature unmistakable, but I still thought it worth noting that the remake changed some colors to remove whatever doubt might remain that those obstructions and key enemies were parts of the boss.
If there was ever an old Zelda game one would've played, this is probably the best choice. Absolutely revolutionary. BOTW was also revolutionary, it changed everything for a Zelda game's expectations.
I could totally see how this game revolutionized gaming. I played it this year and my mind was blown. If I played it as a kid, I would've probably died from joy.
@@JustinBae Yeah I remember when I first got it I wasn't able to read english yet so I had to have a parent there to read sometimes lol. The puzzles are a bit outdated now but at the time they made this it was like some of the first real 3D games in the world so they had to like train the playerbase to be able to handle the controls.
Ganondorf's big attack requires both arms to charge. Normally, if you try to shoot him with a Light Arrow while he's not stunned from being hit by his own magic, he uses an arm to block. That his big attack requires both arms to charge means he can't defend himself, and thus you get a free shot with a Light Arrow whenever he charges that attack. While you can try to send all of the blasts back at him (a spin attack is good for that), it's not worth trying because the only way it does anything different from his normal magic attack is if all of the blasts hit him, and they can be sent elsewhere seemingly at random, not to mention that any of them that might collide with the floor before they reach you would still count toward the 'all of the blasts' factor. If all of the blasts hit him it would be as if he was hit with a Light Arrow, but again it's not a trustworthy means of getting it done.
Did you notice that Link still had the Triforce of Courage when he went to meet Zelda as a child in the final cutscene? Link went there to confirm Ganondorf's treachery, and his possession of the Triforce of Courage serves as evidence that has him imprisoned and set to be executed. However, Link's possession of the Triforce of Courage also causes...problems, with said executions, due to the legend Zelda told you right before the great reveal about the balance of the Triforce. That particular set of shenanigans is actually what sets up Twilight Princess, although none of this is explicitly stated in game except for the difficulties Ganondorf suddenly being nigh-unkillable due to possessing the Triforce of Power creates with the little issue of putting him to death.
It’s weird because he’s playing this with the knowledge of new age games. But when I played this everything was new. Feels like he’s trolling a whole childhood. One thing to pay homage to a staple game. Another thing to be this.
Is it a bad thing to want to play games in a series? He wants to explore all the well known gems of zelda. What is it that really doesn't sit well with you? I am genuinely curious, I mean no harm

Anothee banger from you Justin!
I love when new players play games that I've played countless times and somehow do stuff that I never thought of doing! I just recently replayed oot on my 3ds and never has it crossed my mind to use the deku nuts to stun the tough enemies like the gerudo warriors or dark link 😭 it would've made my life so much easier lol
this game is just beatiful, thanks for playing this masterpiece
I'm so glad you enjoyed this game. Im a bit peeved that chat backseated and spoiled some of the journey for you but its hard to avoid stuff like that in this day and age unfortunately. I hope you get to play more of these in the future! I was practically raised by these games
TIL you can knock down the flame dancer with bombs been playing oot for like 25 years
Edit:also apparently you can hit bongo bongos hands with the sword to stun them
You can also instant knock it down with megaton hammer (flame dancers)
25:43 “He just committed seppuku!”
Although this was clearly not seppuku, that still made me laugh! 😂
So glad I got to see you play this gane for the first time.
My brother and I used to play this all the time as kids and we did the “voices” too. I feel 10 years old again 😂
After a while of digging I figured out that naburu that that the witches made work for ganondorf is actually named after neborus even though she has nothing to do with anything of the sages and being named after a Divine beast
8:24 now I want to give my grandkids a quest on my deathbed. Can you imagine how epic that would be?
The Pegasus Epona had me dying. The hole run was so much fun, nice edit, funny voices, well done, mate. Did you finished Majoras Mask?
nvm. I found it. ;)
@@Schmiddsche so did they?
Best video I have seen in a while 🏌🏾♂️
the fact everybody just calls you loser just cracks me up so much
Strange how this is getting so little views compared to his totk challenges.
And the 3ds game is beautiful 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
You know he is dangerous when he plays his own boss music just shows how strong he is
I ve been playing the game for 23 years, I've completed it 2-3 times and I've completed deku tree 20-25 times
I didn't know I could stun Gohma with a deku nut...
I know that the other new legends of Zelda are open world and I love that but I still like the classics and In my opinion this is the game of all time
This was my only game on the n64 for a little over a year and put hundreds of hours into it and I don't think I ever found the fishing mini game.
i remember playing this growing up and its my favorite
"The little cut scene that shows the water going up and an opening, I completely missed that." Welcome to being a12 year old and almost breaking my controller because crt tvs were so dark and I couldnt figure that part out. 😂😂
You actually do a really good Mido impression
HEY, LISTEN!
Also two hours of your content, lets goooo
for people who are confused Majora mask is a sequel to ocarina of time and the happy mask sales men is in both games
I HAVEN'T SEEN THIS IN A LONG TIME!!!
Justin: How do I beat Dark Link?
Also Justin: Nutt
water temps is EVERYONES worst nightmare AHAH god do i not miss it
Ganondorf's big attack requires both arms to charge.
Just watched your playthrough - i wish you would have gotten the 2 handed sword from the trading quest but overall a fun and enjoyable playthrough.
9:58 they switched I guess and the no because they were praying that you weren’t paying attention, and then they repeat it
2:02:54 "Kid...no, loser!" LOL
After the water temple, they should call him ‘winner’.
the Sheik cutscenes are my absolute favorite moments in the game..such a shame your game refused to load them
Ruto: My mother said to give the stone to the one who would be my husband.
Link: On second thought you keep it (Goes miles away from her)
Did you notice that Link still had the Triforce of Courage when he went to meet Zelda as a child in the final cutscene?
If us Nintendo fans saw this game with 60fps we would be losing our minds 😂😮💨
It’s weird because he’s playing this with the knowledge of new age games. But when I played this everything was new. Feels like he’s trolling a whole childhood. One thing to pay homage to a staple game. Another thing to be this.
Is it a bad thing to want to play games in a series? He wants to explore all the well known gems of zelda. What is it that really doesn't sit well with you? I am genuinely curious, I mean no harm
That PC port is pretty, Im so used to my N64 chugging frames.
It is true that ruto was named after ruda which is the Divine beast from breath of the wild same with all the other ones like va rudania but I only know rudo but it is with the other ones
One of my most favorite games
Why don’t the Goron just eat the border blocking the cave
Terminal montage reference?
Bro is so good at voice acting
first time playing oot is one step closer to playing the randomizer...
