The smoke isn’t overpowering as I mentioned but definitely present! Think of it as a softly smoked toffee, so tasty! Not the best whisky I’ve ever had but I’m really impressed with its unique character and I’m super excited to share how it’s developed in its Whisky War episode 😊 now to track down that wine cask version!
Thank you for the review Ash. I've had this from a travel retail when I went to Finland. It did go very fast, because I found it to be really delicious. I've stashed away a 200ml bottle for the future 😊
Well done Ash, such a amazing price WoW!! £44 at MoM at the moment. Rumour is its coloured but if "mit farbstoff" not stated on your german bottling looks like something changed( just checked at Whisky Exchenge and its states: No colour)!!! 👏👏👏 fully crafted now 🥳. My bottle gone long time ago and need to buy another one but maybe bas armagnac one or IB. Sipping Ben Nevis 11yo IB which is quite similar in profile and same way tasty dram. Watching your review on headphones and there is no any noise 👌 Cheers,😁🥂🥂🥂🙋♂️
Thanks! I’m definitely going to try to pick up that Armagnac too but it’s out of stock a lot from what i see and rarely hits an offer but since I like the standard I think it feels a safer buy now. That’s good to know, thanks! And how beautiful is that colour 😮 really shows its waxy, oily, dirtiness inside. I’ve never tried a Ben Nevis but now I’ll look into them, especially saying it’s on a similar enjoyment factor to this. cheers!
@WhiskyWars Bas Armagnac one is in uk at aprox £52 so not bad(Gwhisky done review while ago and praise it). Ben Nevis hard to get and never cheap but is worth every penny, i recommend to you last Whisky Lock review of Ben Nevis 10 OB from this week 👌🥂🙋♂️
Great review, cheers. Very keen to try this one too. The unusual tase you describe is matched by the quirky age statements they seem to use on their bottlings. The audio is perfect for info.
Very cheap, $80 Canadian before taxes. Lovely. Popular for enjoyment. The Craigellachie 17 is outstanding and is absolutely worth the price differential. Superb. Cheers.
It should be natural colour (according to the internet) And as far as I remember, you need to write on the tin in Germany if you have added artificial colour. I love this whisky, it is so nice and so dirty at the same time.
Thanks so much for the info! I didn’t realise about that rule in Germany but it certainly does make things easier! I must admit though, I didn’t think I saw it on the tin and it was bought in Germany but the label is very busy so there’s a chance I missed it. What an incredible colour, really represents what’s inside for me. Totally agree with you. Dirty is a good word for it, cheers!
30 Euros - what a fantastic price!! Great minds and all that. I had a bottle of this delivered exactly a week ago, (but I sadly paid £52). I’ve only had a neck poir so far and am now waiting for it to open up to explore further. Wouldn’t have picked this as a Speyside in a blind. First impression was that’s it’s got all the signs of being a very enjoyable dram. 👍🙂🥃
Thanks and I know, it’s a real curveball! But super exciting, I love its difference from its region. It should open up nicely as you get into the Christmas spirit, cheers!
Nice review. I really like Craigellachie 13yo, "The bad boy of Speyside". I dscovered it some years ago after watching Ralfys review, I fell in love with it at the first sip, but it's not a beginners dram. And now I always try to have a bottle at home. Here in Sweden the fixed price right now is sek609 (£44) in todays currency. To me that's a relly good price for that quality. Cheers
That’s a better RRP than here in the UK (£55) so I totally agree 🙂 Really happy for you in Sweden that you get this for a great price because I know sometimes that’s not always the case! It’s also one of those where I really feel like even in the second bottle there’s a note or two extra that you can pick out and explore which keeps it interesting, cheers!
The good thing about buying in germany is that they have to mention it on the label if they add colourant. It should say something like: 'mit farbstoff' or 'farven justered med karamel'. I like the craigellachie, and its hard to fault, but dont think I like it as much as others do.
Interesting! I’ll have to look for it. There’s a good chance I’ve missed it because the label is very busy! I know what you mean, I love that it’s interesting and different to what I’d expect from speyside maybe more than solely on taste. Don’t get me wrong, I really do enjoy it but I don’t think it will be my whisky of the year 🙂 cheers Kevin!
My new purchase of the same bottle arrived today. Interestingly the bottle label appears to be slightly different to yours as it states clearly at the bottom front ‘no chill filtering - natural colour’. Must have been asked a lot about it. Website states natural but now we know for sure. Excited to explore this one too - been on my list for ages!!
That’s great news! I hope you get the chance to dig into it as we approach the festive period 🙂 it’s always nice when you finally pick up that bottle you’ve wanted for quite some time. Enjoy!
Haha a man after my own heart! I usually don’t last the day without cracking it open but the other month I did manage to last a week which I am happy about, that’s my longest so far! 😅😂 enjoy! Perhaps you’ve already opened it?
@@WhiskyWars 😂😂 well done on lasting the week! Mine is still unopened but mainly because I bought too many others on Black Friday - and I have a whisky advent calendar on the go - so there’s only so much drinking time/liver lol
Good video Ash, the 13 is a regular on my shelf and we do get ( on the whole) in Germany pretty decent prices. Pretty sure this is natural colour. If pop/alcohol drinks are sold in Germany it should state on the label either’ mit Farbstoff or mit Zukerkulör Slàinte 🥃
Thanks David and I didn’t know about this rule until people have just let me know but I will remember that and always check the label now, it’s a good rule. I like it, the whisky too. cheers! 🥃
Lets be honest, you dont save - you buy more :D. Craigellachie is definitely not boring, and I liked it more during a period. Now I dont enjoy it as much. It has some good fermented fruit and citrus notes, some burnt rubber and chili. Full and intense, and pretty hot with alcohol as well. Short and dry on the finish I think. I can relate to your impressions about industrial, and it being different and interesting in the speyside setting. That Oban 14 though, I really like. Not as bold, but wonderful starfruit flavor and saltyness I find it to have
Hahaha… guilty!… 😅 Yeah I definitely don’t think it’s going to win my whisky of the year award either but like you say, it’s not boring at all. I find it quite fascinating and different and I love that about it. Citrus is a great note, I definitely get that too. I think the dryness is from ginger and wood, that was my thought on it anyway but I do get that dryness on the finish, cheers!
Good! Definitely a different take on speyside. Waxy walnuts and a bit dirty/oily. Not what I was expecting going in either when I saw it was a speyside. Cheers man, Benromach is another quirky speyside too but maybe a bit more suited to your taste, smoky dirty + red fruits that one (in comparison to most speysides)
I love this whiskey, and it is natural color. To my palette, that oiliness comes across as bacon fat. I can’t think of another whiskey that gives me that note. The Armagnac finished version is also very good, but the standard 13 is my favorite.
Oh that’s a great note! I’ll look for that later on but I can totally see how that’s possible. Interesting, great to hear you’ve had the Armagnac but prefer the standard. I may well be the same, cheers! 🥃
I’ve just done some Black Friday shopping now that I’m back in the UK, it just depends on where I am and since I know the UK market, I search for whiskies that are cheaper in Germany and only buy those ones. To be honest I think most whiskies tend to be cheaper in the UK but there’s some that are like half the price in Germany so I can’t resist to buy those ones 🙂 That’s still cheaper than in the UK so a good deal I think! Thanks, that’s good to know, I couldn’t either. I think the new mic is working well :)
I buy this more than any other single malt, I find it to be very fruity and dirty at the same time, and it's cheaper than most 12-year-olds in my area $51 USD, Cheers
Dirty is a great choice of word! Wow that’s a great price, it’s £55 in the UK barring a Black Friday sale which perhaps is around 80USD so Europe + US seem to get it way cheaper than we do in the UK. It’s been a pleasure drinking through it and getting more used to it, I can see why you buy it so much! cheers!
Click that like + SUBSCRIBE button if you also like the Craigellachie 13! 😊 🥃 🔥
Very very waxy walnuts! That a note I really want to mention since I seemed to have edited it out by mistake! 😂
The smoke isn’t overpowering as I mentioned but definitely present! Think of it as a softly smoked toffee, so tasty! You’re more than welcome Hakan 🙂 ah good idea! I need to get into the habit of doing that as well, it helps it to last

Okay okay 2 reviews to check out 😂, cheers!
Great review, cheers. Very keen to try this one too. The unusual tase you describe is matched by the quirky age statements they seem to use on their bottlings. The audio is perfect for info.
Very true! I definitely recommend it 🙂 thanks for sharing your opinion on the audio, I think the new mic has helped a lot too
Sound is much better.
Craige I really like it a lot. Good choice.
Thanks! 🙂 Oban next week!
YOU GOT AN ABSOLUTE STEAL MATE!! Great as ever mate and the audio is crisp with no fridge. Cheers!
Cheers Jeff! I know you appreciate a good bargain too, makes the whisky tastier doesn’t it 😂
Yes! love this and exactly that; oily mechanical plant. Impression like smoke. Great audio too. Cheers!
Cheers Jon! A great bit of intrigue from the speyside region, I’m really impressed
Very cheap, $80 Canadian before taxes. Lovely. Popular for enjoyment. The Craigellachie 17 is outstanding and is absolutely worth the price differential. Superb. Cheers.
Ooh I could see that, definitely one for the future Christine! You’re most welcome

Oh yeah dude this is a solid solid dram. They all are actually. 13 Armagnac, 17 and 19 are gorgeous as well. Cheers Ash!
Armagnac definitely on the list, cheers Sertug!

I can't believe you are buying whiskey in Germany not in UK. Thanks for the review. This one was 53€ in my country. I can't hear your fridge btw.

According to their website its natural colour.
Thanks for the update, what a great natural colour! 🥃
