that's why i love the breakdown, it starts with those tribal drum beats, segues into this almost clanging feeling that invokes sword on sword, and finales with the instruments almost evoking machine guns and bombs. it just perfectly evokes not only the idea of the history of human war, but with the angels' perspectives(eg., father blessed them all with reason, and this is what they choose) it also feels almost like an accounting of every wrong decision we've made with the freewill god granted us. same reason i love the breakdown at the end of 46 & 2, the whole song talks about ideas of the jungian shadow and striving to overcome, and then the breakdown evokes this feeling of being pushed or drawn, almost like an accelerating gravitational force the crescendos with this pounding that feel like throwing yourself against a wall, trying to break through the barrier of your own limitations. tool takes forever to release albums, but things like this always make it worth the wait.

I was drawn to your channel, not just because of Tool, because before my daughter was born 5 years ago I was in a band for 9 years as the drummer but I also had a hand in the production/mixing side of the few EP's we released on a small local scale. I just had an interest and an ear for it. I was by no means any where near your level of ability or skill, so I am fascinated by these nuances that you can pull out of the music you are guided towards listening to by the people commenting on your channel. I do hear the things you focus on in Tool, but never gave them much thought until you point them out. I love the fact you are doing this for the sake of your love of music and not monetising your channel. I have been a Tool fan for many, many years and I also meditate so I know exactly what you are talking about when you have an emotional/energetic reaction to Tool's music. Keep doing what you are doing, we love it, and the fact your subscription total is growing rather quickly shows that others do too. I love how Danny uses the drums and patterns used to represent the evolution of mankind and how we wage war. Starts simple and then tribal and ultimately industrial. The same with warfare and killing each over pieces of the ground.
I always forget that this song is nine plus minutes. It just flies by for me. Just like this video. When it was over, I saw it was 25 plus and was in disbelief that it went by so fast. I believe that’s a credit to how engaged you are with the music and with us, your audience. Great work! Also, love the shirt.
Maynard doesn't publish lyrics for months after the album comes out because he wants you to listen the song as a whole, not just follow the words. You're doing this right by just treating him as an instrument
is that so? I really wonder where you got that info from, because I bought the Fear Inoculum Deluxe Edition CD the day it released and it literally came with a booklet including all songs' lyrics.
@@therealnynetynyne360 so? the statement "Maynard doesn't release lyrics for months cause he wants you to figure it out yourself" is still incorrect, since they did release lyrics with an album. it may used to be different, but not anymore.
Yeah, this or Jambi. You really can't say enough about Maynard truly showing vulnerability in the lyrics of Jambi. "No prize that could hold sway Or justify my giving away My center So if I could I'd wish it all away If I thought tomorrow would take you away You're my peace of mind, my home, my center I'm just trying to hold on One more day" No better words for the desperation and gaping loss of a loved one. Whoever said there's no synths or overdubs is lying. Danny is a big synth nerd and has a collection of synths. He definitely uses them on Tool albums. I don't know why people say that shit.
Yeah but they don't usually have a synth keyboard in their music. I do think they had that live at some point, though. But on the albums if it ever happens it's rare. Danny's synths are just keypads basically that act as extra drums.
The tabla solo is supposedly two angels talking to each other (like Maynard's singing about). Some people that studies divinities and more specifically "enochian" claims that Angels speak like that, using rhythmic patterns of a constant sound instead of different sounds or even melodies (if you can call speaking a type of melody).
“This is a safe place to stop” you’ve picked up on the band’s moments and changes and the timing on their songs breaths! Thanks for always pushing the idea to use high quality cans/buds. I’ve always had a similar “musicians” approach to Tool where I don’t focus on the lyrics really as his voice and vocal patterns are so instrumental. These lyrics got me though. It’s so refreshing to watch you break down Tool in a way that resonates with me. It’s like you’re saying all the things that I’ve thought but haven’t had anyone to say it to! But then there’s also vicariously listening to it for the first time through you that has most of us so hype. Expect a cup of coffee on me my friend, as always.. I’m still here 🤙
"Its not the fact that he has the ability to do that......its that where do you tastefully place that...?" Man, I have been saying this for years and years (though I've never been able to convey that thought as well). Its not necessarily that this guitar player is so damn talented and can play anything, its how they implement the riff/lick whatever, into the song. Ill never forget Brian Johnson of AC/DC commenting on fans that talk crap about the simplicity of their guitar riffs by Angus...."Well if its so simple and easy, then why didnt YOU write it?" A song doesnt have to be complex in its structure or have really wild/insane riffs throughout. If you take something simple and insert a bit of creativity at the right moment you can come up with magic that sounds amazing and a lot of people love, but remains very simple at its core. And tool are masters at that. So much of what Adam Jones does is very simple at the core of his sound but hes mastered the extra, more complicated things and has learned how to insert them into just the right parts without disrupting the core of the song. I struggle to find another example of a guitarist that does so much with so little without feeling like they just tore the song down while trying to be creative in the right spots.
I'm still here :) As someone who used to cover Tool songs for fun back in the day, I can confidently say these guys use more pedals than a church organ. One of the most critical effects to get the sound right in my experience was the delay pedal timing. Mixed with a chorus you can get these really cool interference patterns, but it takes a long time to get everything to line up juuuust right. Also, Justin used a bass Whammy pedal in a lot of the stranger sounding stuff for pitch shifting. But at the end of the day you can never be totally sure because of how secretive they are about what exactly they are doing. Also, stop apologizing man! The content is great. Don't be afraid to talk about something a little long if it feels right. It is interesting to hear about the technical stuff going on behind the scenes.
Lol, same. Rick Beato is much more in-depth and analyses harmonies, and even got access to the official mix, so he can isolate tracks. But I still watch Geebz because he's doing gut-reaction and impressions, and I love being reminded what was so striking about these songs on the first listen.
Still here, Geebz. Hey, I'm not sure if you're up for this challenge, but there are 3 Tool songs (Disposition, Reflection, Triad) that, for me, play like 3 movements of a symphony. 22 minutes of perfect music just kind of stuck in right after the song Lateralus that flow so well together, so that I never listen to them as individual songs but always listen as a whole. In fact, back in the day, when I originally ripped those songs from my CD I purposefully edited the series so they would play as a single track. So yah, I challenge to you to try this same approach if you feel like to reacting that way.
I stick that disc, more so that one than any other of Tool, in my truck and it is stuck in the player for at least a month. I don’t have a very long commute so it always starts in a different place. Those three come on and I have to just sit til the ride is over 💯
One of these videos he'll have to see you say that. Idk why he hasn't done it yet. It seems to be, from what I've seen, the most requested track. I agree. He's gonna lose it over that scream.
If you’re hearing something in a TooL song that you’re just not sure what it is but you know it’s not Adam..... It’s Justin. Greatest band to have ever graced a stage

I'm still here!!! Tool is my favorite, and I love hearing about them from a technical aspect. I don't play any instruments, so it's nice to hear what a composer has to say about how awesome they are 😊
This is the greatest song ever written by Tool, possibly by any group of humans. I understand how even a professional could be flustered by this; I covered this song in a band in my early 20s, and learning this bassline took me 8 months. The trick for me wasn't counting the meter, but feeling it like a pulse. It's fucking ORGANIC, their composition and arrangement is like a damn living creature made of music. Unparalleled. "Repugnant is the creature who would squander the ability to lift his eye to heaven, conscious of his fleeting time here"... greatest line in a song. Your channel is fantastic, and I love your breakdowns, I've watched damn near all of them by this point; keep it up!
Don't be afraid of the Tool fans and their "Ideology". We just like hearing things that you point out that we don't know. Do it. Get those goosebumps and explain why.
Thank you for reacting to this song. It’s one of my favorites for a few reasons. The instrumentation is just so interesting to listen to, actually to vibe out with, and it’s not something you simply tap your foot to. You put yourself in the music and you pick things out that interest YOU. The Indian sounds are really cool. The lyrics are out of this world and have been quoted many times. “Repugnant is a creature”...is my favorite line and when I started watching and reading comments about Tool songs, I discovered that I definitely wasn’t the only one who felt the resonance from that beautiful phrase. I say phrase because I think it should be used in books, documentaries, movies, cartoons, the Bible itself (Don’t hate me Bible thumpers, I’m only kidding 😜). I say that all tongue in cheek, but I still really think it’s a beautiful line from a song that, if you’re listening to it, you’re going to have an emotional response of some kind. Whether you’re a Christian, Buddhist, Islamic, atheist or anywhere in between, you can all enjoy this song and take a message from it...as well as just listen to the music and enjoy it on a “simple” and peaceful level. I’m not great with words, but you can understand what I’m trying to say. Thanks again for this particular song Geebz. I’ll be watching most of your reactions because I truly enjoy your personality, perspective and I learn things from you that I otherwise wouldn’t have known and it brings another dimension to the music I listen to. I’m a Tool fan first and foremost, but I also enjoy lots of other bands and it’s fun to even discover a band that I have never listened to and hearing your obvious passion and extensive knowledge of music makes me listen to it more closely. I was a dancer (ballet, lyrical, jazz, etc) for many years and I have an ear for music that’s a little different from some, but again, hearing your perspective adds new dimension to things that I’ve obviously heard, but didn’t think about very much. (Meters and stuff) So thanks for that. Keep doing what you’re doing. You’re my favorite reactor by far and I appreciate what you do for kids as well. Have a great day to you and everyone who made it this far!! Lol

tool takes forever to release albums, but things like this always make it worth the wait.
There's an animated video set to this song that depicts exactly that.
@@gourdguru you're 100% on point. My soul goes into self-flagellation mode every time I hear this to prevent myself from pretending this song isn't a perfect depiction of how short sighted humanity.
@@MaynardsSpaceship I remember watching that video. It doesn’t stay up long and gets taken down every time it gets posted, but it’s definitely one of the best fan made videos I’ve seen.
When you do listen to Parabola make sure you listen to Parabol first as they go together.
Rick Beato knows.
Puscifer Humbling River.....you won't be disappointed. I promise.
Or Conditions of My Parole would be good too.
Cuntry Boner for the lulz.
@@roomierfatback that's my second plea!
Potions (deliverance mix) too!
@Michael Arden and another👍
I like how with the first "right in two" the bass bend becomes a chord. It divides in two.
With most bands it would be a happy accident. This band I feel does that on purpose. Nice catch.
Yeah. Yeah, it does.
I am still and will always be here! Dude, I've watched many react channels (predominately Tool) and I have to say I absolutely love your channel. I can't even remember how I found you but I am so glad I did. I've been on the internet since 1998 and I have never posted a comment to anything on TH-cam Until this post right now. I watch your videos regardless of what band you are reacting to because I enjoy what you do and how you do it. I hear you have many requests for Parabol/Parabola so if you do it, please do a back to back like you did with wings of Marie we will be here with you all the way! Okay, I'm rambling on now so Peace and love to you. Spiral out, keep going ;-)
Thanks Jay. That was a wonderful comment - meant a lot! Mahalo!!
Beard of Harmony's cover of this is gorgeous.
I love how Danny uses the drums and patterns used to represent the evolution of mankind and how we wage war. Starts simple and then tribal and ultimately industrial. The same with warfare and killing each over pieces of the ground.
"Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven conscious of his fleeting time here"
One of my all-time favorite Tool songs for this line alone
One of the greatest lines from any piece of music ever.
A modern masterpiece.
What a ridiculous line if you take it literal
@@MustObeyTheRules **lifts eye**
Can’t wait to hear what you think of “invincible” and “7empest” off the new album, by the way
7empest is the best of the decade, invincible is my favorite
Descending, my personal preference if I may. But then again when it comes to the decomposing of songs as he puts it anything tool is OK with me.
Yeah. You have to throw Descending into that mix.
Don't forget Descending
@@thirdeye311 why is this song so underrated
Tool is very bass forward in their composition and in the mix. People sometimes don't realize how much of tool's sound is Justin. He's a beast!!!!
I bought a pure bass headphone for this reason
Justin is the GOAT.
He also writes most of the music IIRC so you may be more right than you think
Tool has been my favorite band for over 20 years and this is my absolute favorite song of theirs I’m so glad you’re doing this one!
Spoken like a true Tool Army Lieutenant! 🤙
I think you should do Vicarious at some point. And The Grudge. And Descending. And 7empest. And...
Maynard doesn't publish lyrics for months after the album comes out because he wants you to listen the song as a whole, not just follow the words. You're doing this right by just treating him as an instrument
Indeed
is that so? I really wonder where you got that info from, because I bought the Fear Inoculum Deluxe Edition CD the day it released and it literally came with a booklet including all songs' lyrics.
@@_claymore interesting. None of their other albums have lyrics. I never could get my hands on hardcopy of Fear Inoculum so I didn't know that
@@_claymore and that and some art was exclusive to that edition. You example is exception to the norm not the norm itself
@@therealnynetynyne360 so? the statement "Maynard doesn't release lyrics for months cause he wants you to figure it out yourself" is still incorrect, since they did release lyrics with an album.
it may used to be different, but not anymore.
Still here, young one. And still waiting for "The Grudge".
He knows. That’s how he brings us back. By not doing it . 😆
It’s their best song
I'm still here. You rock! Thanks for decomposing these masterpieces! Allllllll Riiight!
This is one of those songs that often gets overlooked by reaction channels yet it might be the best song in 10000days. Kudos!
Absolutely, it's my new favourite in the album right next to jambi.
Yeah, this or Jambi. You really can't say enough about Maynard truly showing vulnerability in the lyrics of Jambi.
"No prize that could hold sway
Or justify my giving away
My center
So if I could I'd wish it all away
If I thought tomorrow would take you away
You're my peace of mind, my home, my center
I'm just trying to hold on
One more day"
No better words for the desperation and gaping loss of a loved one. It's so human and visceral.
But then you have Right in Two. Which is high minded and spiritual. Just a great couple songs.
It's still one of my favorite Tool songs from _any_ album.
Rosetta Stoned will always be my favorite from 10k Days
True just like Abe from deftones, he's not over the top virtuoso- but his beats are out of this world and amazing for deftones.
Well, it's official... You've illicited a loud, vocal “wooHoo” from me today as I scroll for something to watch at the gym. These are always so great 🤗
Love that!
Many have mentioned it, so shall I.
Tool "The Grudge".
This is my favorite TOOL song and I love watching your decomposition of TOOL songs, I love that this was recommended to me.
Still here, and I couldn't be happier Geebz! Awesome review & reactions. Excellent shirt too.
The noose A perfect circle please
Please do DESCENDING from Fear Inoculum. Please Please That is another Masterpiece
Truth spoken
I still say that's the best one on that album.
My favorite one off of FI. And I love the whole album!
Added the same comment on another KoG video. Truth! Please do Descending!
I now live for your Tool reactions. There's a reason why you're averaging almost 20k subs a month lol
Actually, shit it dawned on me that I was trying to include February so that's more like 30k or so. Either way, Geebz is on fire and we better get a bad ass Tool reaction for 100k
You truly seem like such a chill dude, and your decomposes are stellar.
We keep coming back to watch these videos to see how YOU react to them. Keep being you and doing what you do and we will keep coming back.
Can’t wait for the next Tool video. Cheers.
Still here...with every Tool video. Thank you for sharing your insight and great energy 🙏
Why would anyone say these things! XD
@@linkenski Adam plays synth a lot. He runs an Access synth with a foot controller next to his pedalboard. This is not a new thing.
Adam also uses an Access Virus A synth for triggers for The Grudge and Reflection. Aaand he has an Access Indigo synth he uses.
The tabla solo is supposedly two angels talking to each other (like Maynard's singing about). Some people that studies divinities and more specifically "enochian" claims that Angels speak like that, using rhythmic patterns of a constant sound instead of different sounds or even melodies (if you can call speaking a type of melody).
one of my favorite songs of all time, the "bass solo" is so filthy
This guy explains music like parents explain birds and the bees, I love it
I really enjoy listening to your input on these videos. Especially Tool. I feel you've became a fan! Its great!
I’m still here 🤙
well said :D
Justin has a whammy pedal. That’s that lunge in the beginning behind Adam there.
I commented way back that I’m stoked to see if he guesses its a pitch shift pedal on bass.
Ill never forget Brian Johnson of AC/DC commenting on fans that talk crap about the simplicity of their guitar riffs by Angus...."Well if its so simple and easy, then why didnt YOU write it?"
A song doesnt have to be complex in its structure or have really wild/insane riffs throughout.
Nailed it!
Solid reply on all fronts Fumbles... absolute LOL at pedals joke... and +1 to everything you said here. Hope you'll live a good life, friend.
IM STILL HERE! Keep up the awwesome vids my man, and ofc the work with the kids! :)
Don’t worry about the trolls my man. They exist like taxes
I prefer taxes, at least sometimes they contribute something positive to society
Haters, isolators, no one misses these
Bitches receive stitches
Trolls receive 86's
Gotta know which ones to avoid, otherwise theres trouble :p
I love how he gets flustered. I often feel the same way when discussing Aenima, especially "Eulogy".
I love watching you and Rick Beato tear into a song!
Lol, same. Rick Beato is much more in-depth and analyses harmonies, and even got access to the official mix, so he can isolate tracks. But I still watch Geebz because he's doing gut-reaction and impressions, and I love being reminded what was so striking about these songs on the first listen.
You bring so much joy to all of us, please continue with everything you are doing. Cheers from Czech Republic.
Thanks you Jan!
Those three come on and I have to just sit til the ride is over 💯
Lateralus is a masterpiece. No debate.
Still here for sure! Love your breakdowns! Just epic!
Tool - The Grudge
One of these videos he'll have to see you say that. Idk why he hasn't done it yet. It seems to be, from what I've seen, the most requested track. I agree. He's gonna lose it over that scream.
Indeed...
If you’re hearing something in a TooL song that you’re just not sure what it is but you know it’s not Adam..... It’s Justin.

I have been waiting for this! Clicked like before the video even started! Keep on keepin on 🤙🤙
This is the greatest song ever written by Tool, possibly by any group of humans.

@@ChevisPreston Same here, man. I'll be driving in my truck, they go off, and I get straight chills.
"Ok what the hell kinda drum fill was that? That was killer!"
Welcome to the School of The Octopus, my friend!
Lol
Yes! Been waiting for this one!
