I think the DS was released at a sweet spot in time during the dominance of casual games, but just before the dominance of cell phones.
I think you mean _smartphones._ Cellphones took over years before the introduction of the Nintendo DS.

The fact that Iwata and Dr. Kawashima were the same age is super sweet- imagine them bonding over old-timey things from their shared past! Their uniforms popping in was a nice touch :)
I actually managed to get my parents to play this game for a few months when it came out
Haha, any game that gets your parents playing is pretty impressive!
Now it's coming back on the Switch, Nintendo announced it and they revealed a trailer, and also a gameplay trailer was released.

I really like brain age, it was funnier when a bunch of people shared the cartridge and you could see what the others did.

That game changed my life I was a high school drop out after high school I was in and out of jail I was 18 when I started working full time. I always loved video games especially handhelds like the Gameboy. I bought myself that game because of my job n about a year later I received my GED I continued studying and applying myself in life because of that game and it's training/practice that I did it has helped me become a better person. Thank You Dr.
So entertaining and informative, I wish these were longer, but I understand they can't be.
Thanks! The main reason this video was a bit on the short side is just that there's not loads of info on this game's history, plus it was developed pretty quickly! That being said, I _am_ getting quite a bit faster at editing so I might be able to release weekly from time to time (don't hold me to that!)

@@ThomasGameDocs Haha, oh, someone's a TH-camr! Yes, you'll definitely crank these out every week. There's no way your (already brilliant) editing skills will plateau once you're used to it, while your editing ambitions grow wildly out of control. No way.
It baffles my mind that we haven't seen Brain Age on mobile yet: this was such a fun, interesting little title that would probably explode if they made an app out of it.
On a different note though, yet another great video; good work ;)

@SonicU792 Well yes, and I have done that. Not an optimal solution, something designed with the smartphone functionalities in mind specifically would be ideal for me, but it definitely works 🙂
Great episode! I love hearing Iwata stories, however simple they might be. He was truly a remarkable fellow and his touch shows in a different way for each project he was involved in.
Definitely. I'm glad that the last project he worked on, the Switch, turned out to be such a success. He really was an incredible person.
Brain Age is always one of those titles you forget about, so this was especially interesting, especially considering its success! Awesome vid as always, SUPER excited for some lawyering history up next B^)

I loved brain age when I was a kid. My mom and I used to compete to see who could get a better age (my mom always did)
in germany people still make references about the game and dr kawashima, it was THAT popular

This game has been at the top of the Wii U eShop sales charts for months. But I think people care more about using it to hack their console than training their brains.

I'm so glad this one's development also went down smoothly! I actually loved playing both this and the sequel with my family back in the day, it was kind of a daily routine for us, passing the DS to someone else after we were done with our training!

Bro. I love falling asleep to your videos. I have a hard time falling asleep everyday, so I usually listen to documentaries like this or white noise to help me sleep. Not because they're boring, but because they help me relax. Thank you so much, your voice (this might sound wierd) but your voice is calming. Not only that, but you add music in the background that mixes really well with the feeling that the overall presentation gives off. I've been having trouble at school with staying awake because of my bad insomnia, but thanks to your cool videos I can do a little better in school for a while longer. I only got it a few days ago and me and my sister's are addicted 😂. The brain training one, the Ds game. Are any of the others worth picking up?
@@zacurrya9485 The 2 for the DS work on the speed of your working memory, whilst the one for 3DS does capacity. I haven't played the switch one.
This game was brought to my school by a couple of Nintendo representatives and everyone got to play. So much fun
4:45 yay retailers became gamers too through this ☺️. Introduced a genre where elevate, quickspot, and big brain academy thrive. Though kawashima's switch game is only available physically outside America (no US eShop).
I loved brain age , I played them all even the dsi ones and tye 3ds one
This game made learning fun for me as a kid
the first game i got with ds lite and i really enjoyed it as it was a new experience not like ordinary games that i had experienced at time (platformers,action,sports,fps,rpg,etc..)
I remember enjoying these games when I was younger...idk why they were just so...nice :)

Thomas Game Docs ahhh thank you! i'm currently in my final year of IB doing mocks, finals are in a few months so i'll take all the luck I can get! ya IB is pretty intense and difficult because of the coursework load, but honestly I think it's a really meaningful course with a great syllabus so it's worth it haha

I just played on Nintendo DS I The Brain Training thing. Bet you guys don't even know what a Nintendo DS is, it looks exactly like the one that they were first working on, the microphone thing was new as well. It might be that this brain training game was there from the beginning I bought it 10 something years ago, ya. Though you can't play most games, like sarah the keeper of the unicorn (unicorn unable to jump) or sonic games
