I know that crayfish can become more vibrant and colorful over a series of molts when they live consistently in clean, clear water. I wouldn't be shocked if that's exactly what we are seeing here happen with Leon the lobster. Because Brady keeps Leon's tank so clean, Leon's body is focusing on boosting color because those colors are now more visible to the eye. Of course, he doesn't have any females to impress with his vibrant colors... but his body doesn't know that. 😂
@@lyric8006 Lobsters are basically immortal unless they get shell rot and don't have the energy to molt anymore, then they finally die. He could live a really long time.
I recently learned from an East Coast lobsterman, with a TH-cam channel that lobsters are "virtually" immortal. What kills them is their inability to molt, due to parasites, barnacles, etc. These things rob them if their ability to molt, but as long as they can keep molting they will live indefinitely.
That is actually amazing and makes a lot of sense because why do we die our bodies give out on us if they can continually have a new exoskeleton that makes so much sense
Technically, Leon is immortal. All lobsters are technically immortal. As long as they don’t get diseases or get to weak, as long as they molt yearly, they will essentially live forever, if he stays happy healthy, and strong, he might actually outlive you!
@GinoRigoni Fishing is necessary not just to provide resources but to ensure other populations of fish aren’t impacted by overpopulation of lobsters, an animal that can be aggressive and does not die unless killed.
I hope you can help the hen. Since she's got respiratory symptoms, I hope you are able to isolate her from the rest while healing. Welcome to Chickenlandia is a great channel for help with sick birds. Best of luck to you.
I don't agree with the whole rooster fighting but of course people sell chickens to people for eggs I mean people make a living how is that awful for them and I mean I guess people still like to eat a fresh chicken I mean I don't know what to tell you
No he's not the same lobster, he was miserable when you bought him, now he's happy and thriving. He is a beautiful animal and I've been watching Leon grow since the first video. You've done an amazing job! Well done!!! I love you long hair black kitties! I have 2! They're all so beautiful and adorable, very lucky kitties
Another way to tell it's the same Leon is that triangle/arrow of sand & dust on his back that he can't clean off himself, and you have to brush it off of him each time 🤣 Never change, Leon. Lobster Love for Life!
I'm surprised that people would even wonder whether or not it was the real Leon... Brady is such a chill and straightforward guy. He doesn't seem like the type of person who would lie like that. I guess the world is just that cynical.
Agreed. He's also not shy in talking about death. He's had pets die before which has been shared on the channel. I believe he would be honest in that event.
Sometimes being cynical is necessary and yet I haven't seen this video yet tho I think Leon is still Leon. Personally I can't believe how big he has gotten
Brady, I’m about two minutes into this video, and while I don’t know anything about copycat videos, I do know this: You are an honest and kind person and even though I’ve never met you, I do know that there’s not a doubt in my mind that what you say is the truth. Sometimes when you meet somebody, you know immediately that that person is honest, and even though we are strangers, connected only by Leon’s social media channel, I know you’re honest, my dear lobster-loving friend. Godspeed to you and to Leon and to the rest of your critters 🦞 🐈⬛ 🐕 Sending love and good thoughts from Texas, your long-distance, lobster-loving friend, Shari
I'm surprised and happy that the algorithm never recommended any copycat vids. The algorithm LOVES animal rescue vids and most such vids are actually FAKE as people try to make a viral vid. The horrible thing about the algorithm pushing the fake rescue vids is that the animals are put in dangerous or stressful situations ON PURPOSE and the algorithm is responsible by preferring such vids without care of them being real or fake
Like humans, most lobsters are “right handed” determined by the position of the pincher claw. If the larger crusher claw is lost, the lobster can turn into a southpaw while the right claw regenerates. BEYOND♥️
Only experience I have taking in animals is fostering cats occasionally for a local charity, but rule of thumb is ALWAYS keep new critters in quarantine for an appropriate time, no matter where they come from. Even purebreds can have problems. The charity is currently battling to save a batch of pure sphynx kittens from a breeder, who have serious cat flu. It's horrendous. I think sadly 3 have passed already, it's heartbreaking. If people get outbreaks in animals that are worth £1000 + each (in UK here), then god only knows what animals from a side of the road seller can bring in. Anyway - you're learning and you're such a responsible person, I know you'll handle the hen problem the best way possible :) But yeah... quarantine, always. I know it's not so nice for the animal being in a smaller coop for a short while, but it's better than losing the whole bunch to some random disease or parasite. :) x
Of course this is Leon, the original! I just Googled and found this regarding the color change: 'The unique blue shade is the consequence of a genetic abnormality that results in the overproduction of a certain protein. Because they’re extremely rare, experts put the odds of this coloring anomaly at one in two million. However, these stats are merely guesses. Even though they differ in appearance from other lobsters, they are equal in every other way.'
since captive lobsters are a rarity, and breeding programs haven't been successful historically, a lot of these kinds of colour variations are underreported. seeing what fishermen like jacob knowles pull up from the ocean, it's probably a lot more common than we think. in leo's case, it's only a partial blue colour variant as well :) it IS cool that they change over time though! if there is any link to diet and age, it might be why we don't see too many colourful lobsters in the ocean.
Leon isn't rare and he isn't blue like what that site was talking about though. The rare blue lobster is bright blue with a very bright, unusual blue-looking shell. Leon looks to be a European lobster. They are common along the east coast and they aren't bright blue. They do have a blue tinge to them and blue legs. Once cooked, they look like the American lobster. But in the wild and while alive they look like Leon. Leon is a common European lobster. He is beautiful! If you search "Homarus gammarus" you can read about him.
Hard to believe you've had him two and a half years now- I remember scrolling the night that first video came out and watched it immediately and now every video since watching this journey unfold. I've always thought it would be neat to rescue and keep a lobster, but glad someone else taking on the idea while I can do my own things in the hobby. Currently enjoying my own shrimp and Mexican drawf lobsters, teaching the boys how to breed their own fish and maintaning tanks. They'll enjoy the Leon undate in the morning after they wake up. But no, thank you again and al always keep us updated and enjoyed that public aquarium footage! We also have our own we support- wonders of wildlife in Missouri.
Oh, family trip to Vancouver B.C back in '88 we took a visit to the aquarium and at that time they had a few belugas in one tank but the main attraction was the orcas. After the orca show I wanted to check out the belugas some more, ended up leaning over the glass, put my hand down like I wanted to pet one which was checking me out- in typical beluga behavior it spit a mouthful of water at me and i was drenched from my face down. 😂 something I'll never forget about that trip!
Thank you for rescuing Leon and taking such good care of him. He is such a beautiful color now. Wow I didn't realize how much work it is to take care of the aquarium. I just love Leon and thank you for taking such good care of all of them.
It's never a good idea to adopt any living creature on a whim without doing the research for their care. Even the Venus Flytraps you have require specific conditions to really thrive and it's a good example of why taking the time to understand what the care needs are of living things is important. What makes Leon's story so compelling is you have experience with caring for aquatic creatures and you didn't just adopt him for clickbait, you've taken good care of him and clearly given him his best life as you try to do for all the living things you care for. If your videos have inspired people to want to do something similar I hope they also take the time to learn how to responsibly care for a lobster like Leon (or crabs or any other living creature you can get from your local grocery store) because there is more to it than just bringing them home. Thank you for these videos, I always enjoy them and also a happy belated birthday!
I've been a Leon-stan since your first video hit the ether and I love to see the little snippets of the natural-focused critter-centric world around him, from the many cats to the chickens to the Venus-flytraps to Leon's microscopic cage-mates. I enjoyed the scenes from the aquarium this time too. As you say, aquarium ethics are debatable but what a privilege to glimpse these beautiful animals up close. Thank you Brady for sharing it all with us!
Wow, that is so weird. I genuinely have never ever even thought that was not Leon, he acts like Leon! I even commented that I love how his blue color came in, clearly a sign he is healthy. I appreciate that people question things these days and don't take things at face value but wow wow wow. I never saw those comments and have always known that was Leon! I love your videos and am so happy I found you, keep up the good work!
Props to the editor of the video. Especially during the aquarium section. I don't know how to explain it, but the muted background talking with the soothing music made me nostalgic. It was very calming.

Brady, I don’t know what I value most about what I have gotten out of your videos. The quality of your videos is exceptional, just as video content. The photography editing etc. is just outstanding and beautiful. The content is so varied and well put together within the family of categories: lobsters, aquatic fauna biology and behavior and care, how to put healthy aquatic environment together, maintain it for human enjoyment and the animal’s wellbeing, what goes wrong and what to do about it, the care and feeding of your family zoo and the local flora and wildlife, beautiful travelogs of your environs… and your profound love and appreciation of home life and and the things that make it so precious. Etc. Anything in this list of qualities would make your site worthwhile… all of them together, so well done,is just unbelievable. I think that, for me, the best part is watching your gentle educated love and appreciation of life (yours and your.flora and fauna friends) and your sharing and modeling your ethic of responsible gentle minimally invasive care. Thank you, Brady.

I've been watching Leon since you first bought him home. Looking back, the poor fellow was in pretty dismal shape and it has been amazing to watch him repair and restore himself into the beautiful specimen he is now. All thanks to you and your kindness, intelligence and willingness to find out what is best for Leon so that he is healthy and happy. I'm from New Zealand and I also love the videos you take of your local environment and the adventures you get up to in such a stunning setting. I think Jett is the most beautiful cat I've ever seen and like all your housemates, he is fit, healthy and well cared for. You are a remarkable person with a big heart. God bless you Brady
I love how each video has their own subjects, but consistently show the same care and love of living things, often showcasing nature and animals as they grow and change just like us. Thanks for continuing to post updates about Leon, I admit I look forward to these videos the most. PS: You're gonna love those chickens. I have a small flock myself, about 12 birds, and each one has their own personality and mannerisms. They're incredibly social birds and they're fun to watch. I hope those pullets (name for teenage chicken) you adopted grow up to be healthy happy chickens, and I hope that new chicken you bought recovers soon.
I can't believe anyone thinks that Leon has been replaced. It's best to ignore conspiracies - when they are proven wrong, the conspiracists just find another ridiculous way to make the same claims, or they ignore the proof. Always glad to see more Leon content. I know of only one channel that also adopted a lobster or crabs, and they hadn't been as successful in their first tries but apparently are now able to keep the animals healthy. There are also a few good (and a few bad) channels with stomatopods.
I've been here sinds you Posted your first video saving Leon and I just can't believe it's been this long. It feels like it was just yesterday that I cried while watching you save a random lobster in the store. Giving it the care it actually deserves. Watching him thrive in your care warms my heart. Your amazing for caring for him as much as you do
I feel zoos and aquariums can play an important part in education and conservation. As well as bringing these animals into the lives of people.. it forms a special bond. Done ethically and with a team of animal experts, of course.
As long as the place isn't trying to make the animals perform or keeping them in small and plain enclosures I don't have a real problem with zoos or aquariums. Of course, having a wildlife park without cages where the animals can roam free is preferable to a zoo, but it would be difficult to get the diversity in a wildlife park that they can with a zoo. And they really can't really do that with aquariums due to size constraints. It's disturbing that there are some species of animals and plants that only exist in zoos and aquariums.
I gotta love how there is so much content in each video you can't even reasonable mention one thing in the video without missing basically everything lol! But also with the aquarium, I feel the whales are fine, ours is amazing (st. Louis aquarium) and really well designed, however I was a little sad they keep the giant octopus in such a small tank, compared to it's size, sure it was technically two tanks that they could go between but just, felt a bit small for such a smart animal... However the rest was absolutely amazing, it's less animals but the design going into it and the amount of interactivity is amazing, they also had a lobster so thats a bonus!
I've followed you since the very beginning. Watching his first molt was amazing due to your filming technique and commentary. Thanks for saving all your critters and sharing them with us. Love me some Leon!

Because Brady keeps Leon's tank so clean, Leon's body is focusing on boosting color because those colors are now more visible to the eye. Of course, he doesn't have any females to impress with his vibrant colors... but his body doesn't know that. 😂
Us males must be subconsciously thinking we could get lucky some day 😊
Brady has to see if he can find Leon a mate now, it's meant to be!
With Leon living in such a pristine environment, I wonder what we could expect his lifespan to be?
@@lyric8006 Lobsters are basically immortal unless they get shell rot and don't have the energy to molt anymore, then they finally die. He could live a really long time.
@@CaptMortifyd That’s great to hear. Leon is a good investment.
A good way to tell if this is Leon is the condition of the tank. Brady keeps his tanks pristine.
No other lobster has the Leon vibe like the OG Leon. I've never doubted him. Thank you, Brady for this fun video.
Oh that poor little hen, I hope she recovers, and your chicks are safe and don't catch her respitory infection! She deserves a good life with you
I recently learned from an East Coast lobsterman, with a TH-cam channel that lobsters are "virtually" immortal.
Couldn't an expert keeper help them with molting theoretically?
Technically, Leon is immortal. All lobsters are technically immortal. As long as they don’t get diseases or get to weak, as long as they molt yearly, they will essentially live forever, if he stays happy healthy, and strong, he might actually outlive you!
Yeah but they're immortal only if we protect lobsters from the evil lobsterfishermenb🙏🏻💙🦞
@@GinoRigonithey eventually get so big they dont fit in the traps
@GinoRigoni Fishing is necessary not just to provide resources but to ensure other populations of fish aren’t impacted by overpopulation of lobsters, an animal that can be aggressive and does not die unless killed.
Those poor birds being sold on that flatbed truck made me sick. Glad you rescued one.
I hope you can help the hen. Since she's got respiratory symptoms, I hope you are able to isolate her from the rest while healing. Welcome to Chickenlandia is a great channel for help with sick birds. Best of luck to you.
Those single roosters will be sold to fight.
@@pimpnick4920the capacity of humans to find enjoyment in witnessing the mauling and killing of other creatures is depressing.
I don't agree with the whole rooster fighting but of course people sell chickens to people for eggs I mean people make a living how is that awful for them and I mean I guess people still like to eat a fresh chicken I mean I don't know what to tell you
@@annerussell-bruno9783 Thy could have better caging
No he's not the same lobster, he was miserable when you bought him, now he's happy and thriving. He is a beautiful animal and I've been watching Leon grow since the first video. You've done an amazing job! Well done!!!
I love you long hair black kitties! I have 2! They're all so beautiful and adorable, very lucky kitties
Another way to tell it's the same Leon is that triangle/arrow of sand & dust on his back that he can't clean off himself, and you have to brush it off of him each time 🤣
Never change, Leon. Lobster Love for Life!
That could happen to any lobster.
@@Pashasmom1Obviously for sure 🙏🏻💙🦞
Avatar Leon
Agreed! Well said!
I used to believe I could immediately trust people…
Leon is healthy, thriving, and beautiful. You have done an amazing job helping him live his best life.
Like humans, most lobsters are “right handed” determined by the position of the pincher claw. If the larger crusher claw is lost, the lobster can turn into a southpaw while the right claw regenerates. BEYOND♥️
Yep, like humans and cats 👍🏼
Um im human and im left handed
southpaw instead of a "softball", lol, too funny ☺
@@QUEEN_Alpha_Mama86That's why she said "most". 🥱🥱
You shouldn’t have to prove to anyone that that is Leon. I’ve been watching since you got him.
Animals absolutely change in color when happy / well taken care of . Also , anybody else get Marty Stouffer vibes ? ❤️
@@CarazhanYes, lots to learn! Wouldn't' this be an interesting research project for an aspiring marine student!
I know Leon from a mile away, his personality is unique and he has the same mannerisms
Everyone emphasizes how beautiful Leon is, to few emphasize how beautiful Brady is! Thanks for the education and entertainment!
We never doubted that was Leon. Love that big guy!
The crab living under the waste of Leon, hiding FROM Leon, must be one of the greatest animal interactions I've seen on TH-cam
Thank you for rescuing Leon and taking such good care of him. He is such a beautiful color now. Wow I didn't realize how much work it is to take care of the aquarium. I just love Leon and thank you for taking such good care of all of them.
Leon's looking good. You seem to have lucked out. Blue seems to be a pretty rare color variant, and his is coming in so vibrant.
That is definitely the same lobster and he looks like the healthiest lobster ive seen! We all need nurturing skills like this
I loved your videos from the very beginning. It's like a moment of calming Zen whenever a new one video is released.
I had no idea crusher and pincher claws could be on different sides on different lobsters.......wow.
We also learned how to tell the crusher claw from the pincher. Crusher Claw has more teeth.
Also if the claw is destroyed they can grow a new one. So sometimes you can have one with two crushers or two pinchers.
As a lefty myself, this pleases me so much.
Loved the ‘Leon view’ of the kitty peering into his temporary pool. Made me lol !
Of course! That is Leon, one can tell him by his antics, and his love for you Brady.
That crab is hilarious 😂 my Bass sleeps on her side at night, I can't tell you how many times I went out and thought she was ded lol!
Our cat sleeps on her back too. My husband calls her Pillow. Her name is Tiggy but she is fat and looks like a perfect place to rest your head when she is 😴. Love that you have a pet Bass!
I’ve been watching since day one. I haven’t been able to eat lobster since your first video of Leon aired.
It’s a huge job taking care of Leon & friends , isn’t it? I love the videos. Thank you.
You're a good man, Mr. Brandwood. God bless you!
I have been to the aquarium and it is a fascinating place. I would love to go there again!!!
I totally remember watching that very first video of you rescuing Leon. WOW, Leon has grown so much and he's gotten so beautiful!
Leon's beautiful blue colors are so gorgeous! You don't have to prove anything to anyone, Brady. We know you are an honest man. Anyone questioning that isn't a true fan, and doesn't understand you or what you're trying to do.
I love the way (s)he's colored up since the last molt! Truly a gorgeous specimen. Hats off to you, I have enough trouble with my little freshwater tank, no way am I trying out saltwater! XD Been loving Leon since the beginning. These videos are so soothing, I love all the animals, and the explorations are so neat. The vibes are immaculate, A+
I’d recognize Leon a mile away ⭐️🧡❤️
he's gone from a plain brick red lobster to a lapis lazuli lobster! what a glorious colour.
This has become my favorite TH-cam channel over the last few years. I remember seeing that thumbnail of Leon fresh from the terrible conditions at the grocery store. I know I'm always going to feel nice and calm when I watch a Brady Brandwood video.
Yes, me too. It's so relaxing as well as informative.
1:15 "and that hasn't happened here… yet" and cuts to Seafood😂
Dear Brady,
I have always believed that Birthdays are special and one should only do things that bring joy and happiness on our birthdays 😂 So Happy Happy Birthday 🎂🎉
Yeah, I don't need your proof.
There is only one Leon - his character SHINES through...
I hope the new chicken will be better soon and get along with the others. Leon looks awesome and cuddles for all the cats 🥰
You aren’t a person who would hide it if something was going on with Leon. Your videos are to entertain but also to inform and learn together. You’ve helped and taken in a lot of animals in need, and given them great care. There is no hair on my head (Dutch saying 😅) doubting your intentions or honesty.
I've been watching since the first video. It's been quite the adventure
7:00 - Leon is a calm and trusting animal. He has learned that Brady means him well and doesn’t freak out on handling. That confidence is teh biggest compliment to his handler Leon can give.
Has it really been two and a half years? Wow.
i live close to atl. We love that aquarium ! Happy Birthday
Leon and you are awesome, I have some merchandise and enjoy Leon. You take such good care of all the wonderful creatures it is a pleasure to watch and listen and learn. I've learned so much about lobsters that I never knew since listening to you. The feeding maintenance and patience it takes is a lot of dedication. I'm thankful I have the time to watch listen and learn, I can't believe some people have the time or remarks negatively about anything here. Keep up the good work.
Many thanks larryosberg! Thank you for watching. ✌️✌️✌️🦞
WOW. That aquarium you visited is stunning on video, I can't imagine how wonderful it is in real life.
These videos never fail to make me happy. I hope the hen is going to be OK though.
I can't believe it's been 2 1/2 years! Thanks for sharing him us. He's gotten so beautiful ❤️❤️❤️
I know right?! Time flies
I love the blue coloring that’s developed! Leon looks amazing! ❤
Btw thanks for taking us to the aquarium as well, it's been awhile since I've been in one, so it's a real treat. I'm sure Leon would have loved to have gone with you there . He'd also probably offer to drive lol.
Leon looks so happy! And I loved the aquarium visit! So lovely 🐟
Thank you Brady for your cinematic quality videos. The updates on all your rescued critters is heartwarming. Leon truly has beautiful coloring and the personality you’re sharing about the crabs adorable. Best Wishes on your Birthday, the Aquarium visit was a treat. To see you lift Leon, and his trust, so we could see his tail hole is amazing, I needed no proof to know it was still him. Again Many Thanks for your beautiful videos.
Wow, he's become even more beautiful! Great job Brady!
The number one way to tell that this is still the original Leon? Brady is posting the video.
I remember watching the first video when you bought him from the store. It gave me a sense of calmness considering Covid gave my family a ptsd
He's so beautiful now! I try to watch all of the update videos, and seeing how blue he is turning is stunning.
Is he an American lobster? They can live for decades. Like you have to do with some parrots, do you have a plan in case Leon outlives you?
And as a last bit, thank you for rescuing all those kitties! I'm a cat-lady, and it warms my heart.
His son will take him
things have been rough lately for me, and i just wanted to say it's been really grounding for me to see these updates and watch as life in the aquarium and the rest of the Brandwood household progresses. thank you for sharing this with us
Awesome Angela, I hope things get better for you. Hopefully just a quick black cloud passing over. ✌️✌️✌️
so love your videos. They relax me. I hope your new hen will be ok, and whatever it is making her sick did not pass to the other chicks. Thanks for posting and all the effort you put in making the videos so pleasing to watch.
U tube had a video of the many benefits of Guinea 's. Very interesting !
All of the animals are so beautiful BUT let's not overlook you excellent photogaphy skills and images!!
So happy for Leon. It´s obvious that he is living his best life, never eaten/boiled, never hungry, sick nor hunted! Look how Beautiful he has become, getting rare blue tones, insteadt of orange. I think he was fairly young when you bought him, since he is really blossoming fully now. Always a pleassure watching your films Brady! Ps. sorry about my English, second language :)
Never doubted once that it was really the dashing Leon himself! He looks like he's doing great Brady, been watching your videos for some time now, I really find them so relaxing and enjoying to watch. It's insane that there are actually conspiracy theories going around about our Leon! But, nothing surprises me on the internet anymore lol. Anyways, thanks for making these videos for us, they really put a bright spot in my day. Btw, I love that you take care of so many animals, your cats are adorable!❤❤
I ALWAYS look forward to these Leon videos... you have an amazing talent, sir... both for videography and storytelling. Thank you.
Glad to be here for Leon's journey.
What a happy beautiful blue boi!
He needs to be called Leon the magnificent because he really is. What a beautiful creature.
I've been here sinds you Posted your first video saving Leon and I just can't believe it's been this long. It feels like it was just yesterday that I cried while watching you save a random lobster in the store. Giving it the care it actually deserves. Watching him thrive in your care warms my heart. Your amazing for caring for him as much as you do
Happy birthday Brady! Hope you had a great day! Give the critters some love for me! Love y'all! ❤❤❤
i would never doubt you Brandy ! love this channel
Awesome to see the Georgia Aquarium getting some love and airtime.
People like us that know Leon knows his distinctive arrow on his back no matter how much he molts that mark os there!!
This video is peaceful and soothing. Thanks!
