I'm from Korea. I like the harmony of diverse people. It's not the thing that my country has. So I was interested in South African history and culture even before. And I got to have more chance of speaking and writting English by a South African professor. And yesterday I found this anthem by chance. And I really like this song. 5 languages are in one song, 2 songs are mixed like it used to be 1. Now I can understand Nelson Mandela's dream. Long live South Africa.🇿🇦💞🇰🇷
The idea was that Die Stem, beloved by many Afrikaners and British South Africans, and Nkosi Sikelel iAfrika, a famous song by other African natives, were united in one. Because Afrikaners are the kinders of South Africa but Xhosa, Zulu and the many other peoples too. Mandela respected both Die Stem and Nkosi Sikelel iAfrika. Especially because Die Stem is a beautiful song, just cursed with Apartheid politics. Also, South Africa was made by five people in general. President Botha, who started with abolishing Apartheid, F.W. De Klerk, who succeeded Botha and completely abolished Apartheid, and co- vice president together with Mbeki and Mandela. De Klerk, Mandela, Desmond Tutu and Thabo Mbeki build the new South Africa. De Klerk and Mandela got the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts. De Klerk sacrificed his reputation among his own people for South Africa. Since 1994, the most right wingers call De Klerk a traitor, while Malema and his EFF, as well as the racist party BLF, call De Klerk a murderer.
I live in South Africa and at school we always sing this song at assembly and I love this song so much I sing it at home all the time. South Africa is our beautiful land.
Every word and tone in this song carries a message so profound not just to South Africans but to all Africans as a race. Every time I feel bad I come back to this anthem. Couldn't be any more prouder to be African!
We were forced to learn and sing this song during my secondary school days☺️😊 we sang it off hand but never knew the meaning 🤤🤤 from Nigeria!!! I'm just reading the English subtitle for the first time
The first part of the melody is used in a Psalm in Finnish. That's how I was acquainted with the melody, and was positively surprised to hear it was also used in South Africa's national anthem
We teach our students (Primary School) about leaders and their impact on society and the world. Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Ghandi are the 2 leaders featured in our textbooks. 🇮🇳 🇿🇦 😊😊
Wonderful anthem, maybe the best in the world, combing, bringing together dfferent traditions, a prayer for unity and freedom in diversity. I can listen to it over and over again.
the rest of africa congratulates you for defeating apartheid. for many africans from the rest of the continent, this song is a sad one but also a mark of victory. you were not alone
While so many of us have left, I just can't bring myself to do so. I love my country to the point where I would violently defend it. Call me old-fashioned, but even if you perceive me to be too white - my family's been here for hundreds of years. We know no other loyalty. We keep no second passports. We'll defend this place tooth and nail even if the current ANC government bids us to do so. It is a matter of pride for us. We just want to be included. To work as compatriots together. God Bless South Africa. We love you despite all the despair. Be proud again. That should be our modern motto.
@@paulmpho5762 We have a lot to be proud of. Me and my family love our country. I will take up arms if the government of the day wishes us to do so. We made a Vow ... "We for you, South Africa". woah. im surprised. This comment is so refreshing. It's so amazing to finally see a white south African admitting their loyalty to SA so much so as to never leave. I rarely see this is with whites in this country smh. It annoys me when many whites complain that SA is not "good for them" and then migrate oversees thinking the grass is greener on the other side or that somehow UK, Australia, europe and america are "better"
