- That's a lot of pizza! 40,000lbs worth in trailer flips on freeway - heavy rescue. Not often you get to work with pizza on the freeway! This call came in as a trailer with 40,000lbs of meat overturned on a transition on the freeway. Turned out to be 40,000lb of pizza, packaged in individual boxes on its way to the stores.
This was a CHALLENGING job, for a few reasons. The obvious one is trailers, unlike containers, are very weak. You can't man handle them with brute strength because the walls aren't made of steel or a strong composite. In fact, the front of this trailer ripped during the fall, which decreased the structural integrity. You can try to upright these with bags, but in this case, that would have taken far too long to call them in, and set them up. Dave and I have experience in this and knew we could do it with just our trucks and some clever rigging.
To start, we tried to use as many points of contact with our straps as possible to "cradle" the load. I started with two 30' straps in the rear, doubled up into 4 parts. Dave used my special 2' wide straps up front where it was most damaged. We also used angle irons and wood to help everything come up without further tearing. The plan worked, as it came over nicely.
The load on the other hand was badly shifted, as most of these rollovers tend to be. We tried to tow it off the freeway to work in a better environment, but the load was not safe enough to complete the sharp turn on this overpass, so we had to work it there. Our crew kicked some butt and got to work quick to do this process as fast as possible. Once emptied and loaded into the new trailer, all lanes were open on our way we went.

I subscribe to a couple of towing and recovery companies , and i have to say Pepe towing is by far the best that i've seen so far, i been subscribing for over a year now and i have not seen one that can do it with the expertise that you guys have, ya'll go in there and tackle the job with a no nonsense attitude, keep up the good work and the videos coming.

Sometimes a bigger forklift is better, it's not always about the weight, longer wider forks really make a difference. Good job with the upright.

Nice job josh and team. If you ever find yourself on the other side of the country, where I am (Connecticut) you need to go to Pepes pizza, for the real pizza. They opened in 1925, it is one of the oldest and best known pizzerias in the United States and obviously got a good name just like you guys. Lol.

Great job. My neighbor use to work for a major towing company and one time he brought home boxes of chilli from a rollover. Of course he gave us a box. The policy was if the food touched the ground you had to throw it away. Any body know if this policy still exists?
I know from working in food retail that frozen foods have to be thrown out if kept out of freezer temperature for a specific length of time.

Be careful out there. we just had a procession of 400 tow trucks driving down I - 5 earlier today. Got killed by a semi. Then on 02/15/22 we had another tow truck driver killed by a Fed Ex semi. Both on the side of the freeway helping people, both drivers were drunk also and they both happened to be in a couple miles of each other just North of Tacoma.

Love to watch this kind of recovery! Another great job by Pepe's! But... I think I can top the cooking the pizza on the motor! At one of the plating shops I worked at back in the early 80's, one of the guys (not me!) would stick his soup, or Spaghetti Oh's can in an empty anode bag and tie it in a corner of our 170 F, High Speed Copper Cyanide plating tank to heat it up for lunch. He'd rinse it off and eat it right out of the can.
I'm trying to figure out how he ended up on his right side. I would have expected the truck to flop over on the left side.

That was a bad load shift. I'm amazed that they try to get away with loading those trailers all the way to the ceiling, the plastic will hold it, its fine. Sure sure, next thing you know, truck is rolled over, and gotta call Pepes to the rescue. Those boxes defying physics was quite interesting. Hey how's that pizza Castro, you should have saved me a piece. lol!
20 tons of unsecured load, how do these cowboys get away with it. All sitting on puny pine pallets.

@@brucekoster9253 I was legit just answering your question, I have a bad habit of coming across very direct lol which comes off as rude. But in that case, yes they are still in use. It would have taken so much longer to show up, make the call to bring them, then have them show up and set up when the rotators could easily do it 10x faster and also without tearing the box

@@brucekoster9253 well to be fair, not everyone has rotators like us to use so frequently in tight spaces. To use air bags, you still have to pre pick the trailer to put them under. In our case, we just slide our straps and do it with the booms. In certain cases bags are better like a damaged trailer
