    Tonnage of info here!
Can attest, the ways and means are all in the KTVA course, which if you’re serious about singing, is a must have.
KTVA is the vocal passport that gets you thru the quadrants in first class.
Thx for doing these live streams Ken Tamplin (worlds greatest vocal coach)!
One of these days I’ll be up early and hit this stream ‘live’. 🗣🎶💕

I went through menopause 24 years ago and, although my genres have changed drastically, I still sing many genres. You do what your instrument allows you to do and are constantly trying to train it to do more in every way. This is just part of the struggle we go through to earn the ability to do and continue doing what we love to do so much. I can't recommend open Voice singing more highly and I can't recommend Ken Tamplin more highly! I start everyday with about an hour of Ken Tamplin doing scales. If I'm having a day when I really don't have the energy to sing well( I'm not well. ( I still do my scales with Ken and listen to other Ken Tamplin videos terminology and history and so much more! He is the reason why I can sing things that I can sing now! I was with the Musician's Friend the other night who is doing a CD and you wanted to know if I could sing particular backup and a couple of his songs. He played the songs for me and they were so very easy to sing! This is because of Ken Tamplin! It's because of open throat singing. I also am very humbled by song. It is such an awesome presence in most people's lives! You can move many many people at one time with one simple song and that time and that recording might last a century. You might touch hearts and help them feel less alone. Let them know that other people feel what they feel and need what they need and forgive what some might call transgressions. We are allowed the opportunity to bless the world with a unique experience. I was writing the other day and it came to me that I sometimes feel like I'm playing in the garden of OC t a VES. Each plant their grows notes that can add color to the stylization of the peace. It's a knowingness, being in this magical place. You make decisions on what notes to sing based solely on what your spirit is telling you to sing. This Song speaks to playing in the garden of octaves and reaching to the Sky to touch new Heights how to write something to a golden heaven. This is how I feel when I sing and I am both Amazed by and humbled by what is living through me in song! There's one thing that must be considered seriously before entering the garden, you have to be willing to Lay Your Soul and Spirit completely bare in front of whomever comprises your audience, even if there's no audience. You have to completely open up to all of the joy and pain that the composers felt time that they were writing the song and every emotion of those who relate and those who don't or you have to go method and live the song in your heart. Either way you have to be absolutely genuine to play in this Garden. It is the only entrance to our golden heavens, for those of us who work lifetimes singing songs, hoping to touch hearts, struggling and striving to be better everyday and to pay the songs that we sing what they are due. If you are willing to surrender, you are able to learn. This is why you surrender, knowing that you might hear those few bars just a little bit off key, just a shade flat and be devastated.
I look at it this way; I'm just here to sing a song/songs that mean the world to me. I know how people feel , recognize their vibe the way a dog does. I want to do all I can to ease their pain and to raise the consciousness that we are all the same. I sing songs hoping to bring people together common to feel closer to one another. I sing because that's all I ever really wanted to do and that's just what I do; I sing everyday reaching for that golden heaven.

Personally, I have a different but very similar way to refer to all of this after reading a lot on the scientific terms and having being on singing classes and listening and watching a lot of singing lessons on the internet.
To me, the registers are, from lowest to highest:
Vocal fry, low modal register (speaking register), mid modal register (sining register, which can be belt), mid-high modal register (higher singing register without going through the passagio that gets you on your falsetto, which can also be belted), falsetto/reinforced falsetto/mix voice (high belting register, what we usually mean by "belting", or "in petto" notes), and then whistle register.
I HATE the terms "head voice", "mix voice".
What I have found to be the common consensus of the differences between falsetto and head voice is that "falsetto is airy". I have a very power and not airy at all falsetto after having trained it for a long time. I don't have to reinforce the thing for it to be powerful and not airy, so to me, when I hear/heard that as the definission thought: "but... isn't that just an under-developed falsetto? Why not refere to it as that: an underveloped falsetto... or better yet: an airy falsetto?"
(as a not to whomever reads this, the term "falsetto" DOES NOT refer to a "fake voice" - the term was coined after an italian phrase that roughly translates as: "a a false soprano voice", as when it's trained, it sounds a lot like a belcanto soprano singing).
I also don't like "mix voice", since that's just a strong reinforced falsetto with twang/glottal compression, and above all, because ALL notes anyone sings or talks are a "mix note" (resonating in the head and chest).
(hell, belting is just a strong falsetto with twang that's reinforced in an especial way)
To me, "mix voice" is one of those terms that people seem to make just to be able to tell "you don't mix, you don't sing well and you will never do so unless you get MY especial secret that only *I* can tell you! Go get my course!".
But, getting back on track, I'm actually quite surprised just how much does my defenition/definitions fit well with Mr. Ken's breakdown of the terms (just swap the words and it's quite the same).
Hope this helps anyone reading this!

Im glad you uploading the live stream after because I am missing sometimes the live stream and you discussed an important subject , I seen many many singers losing their voice as they aged they cant sing as high as they could before and I would be one if you didnt tell that chest voice must be grown very strong before start working with head voice, thanks Ken

    • @kentamplin
      @kentamplin  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

People often take the short cut because the long way is harder, but your head voice isn't really strong enough to belt high notes. A strong, extended chest voice can do that heavy lifting for you. It's like using your whole body to pick up a huge weight, instead of trying to lift it with one finger and hurting yourself.

It's just because about the others " there's no real good and honest Vocal Coach and I so sick and tired about it for loosing money and time = as a result of frustration! I dont believe SLS ever, even in past decades, was designed to teach singing at the level of speaking, rather, it is to teach singing at the same comfort level of speaking which, in turn, sometimes means lowering the volume level in scales and exercises temporarily to reduce strain. I have used SLS for 10 years and my voice has blossomed into a very full rich sound. Its END goal is to be able to have singers have the flexibility to sing at any volume level of stylistic choice without the level of the larynx rising, which causes unnecessary extrinsic muscles to engage.

"Pharyngeal" is an anatomy term regarding to the Pharynx. It is behind the mouth and nasal cavities, and above the esophagus and larynx. "Pharyngeal vowel forms" are produced with an open throat and low vowel speech. Hope this helps!

Isnt it "belting" when elvis Presley sings "Blue Moon, Blue Moon" ... keep on shining bright. Because thats pretty deep and i thought he's belting , isnt he ? Or is it just in the higher registers ?? And the other Question i have is, does Brian Wilson sing Falsetto or Head Voice or What ?? It would be so cool if you could answer that Ken . All my love from Vienna !!
By the way , the most important thing i got from this lesson is that we should mix late on the way up and stretch chest voice or mix but focus on chest (i dont know how to say it) but keep chest dominating !!

Ken are you a fan of King Diamond? There seems to be some confusion about his singing style. He has a very twangy falsetto and I also heard the term pharyngeal head tone used to describe his ultra high singing style. People say its falsetto but I always felt falsetto had a hooty or breathy sound where his high notes sound very compressed. Maybe look into it or do a video on the King. I know you like Metal and I think you'd enjoy King Diamond

i did learn about classical voice type.but,i have one problem, its about one type voice that i cant recognice it,its called “sopracuta”.i hear this “sopracuta” from a vocal coach of one popular singer from indonesia(agnez mo).this vocal coach said that agnez mo have the highest type voice called “sopracuta” and this sopracuta is more higher than soprano.so what do you think about this type of voice,is that real?

@panji ardiansyah actually you're talking about ACUTO SFOGATO SOPRANO. Acuto not acuta (or just the way it's pronounces in indo). Agnes is actually a full lyric soprano. Comparatively, she use much falsetto than head voice throughout her career actually (her head voice are great tho. She's able to support it up to B5/C6)
      56% falsetto
      44% head voice

I think David Gates used falsetto very well .

I’m pretty sure the difference between head and falsetto is cord closure. With falsetto, your cords are open (this is why it’s so breathy) and head voice is closed. It’s why it has similar power to chest voice unlike falsetto which is “disconnected” in a sense. You can glide into a light falsetto, but if you do that, you are also gradually opening the vocal cords as you increase pitch. Something I noticed. Not 100% about it.

Ken, please don't take any offence, but if you could be more 'on point' when explaining things, it would make it a lot easier to understand. I hope this helps.

Time to get serious about a complete vocal training course. You can't just fix this and that and have a good voice. You have to work on the whole voice, from beginning to end, bottom to top.
