    Get a bigger heater Or simply more heaters if you can't find a big one. Also you can get a temperature gun at home depot to check the temperature of the water.

    This video helped me alot. Just taking water out helps alot. I have a submersible heater but its not powerful enough for the size of my pond. The temperature outside was 40 and getting colder and today was Christmas Eve so everything was closed. I had to search for other ways of warming my pond. This worked! Thanks alot!!!

    You should get a slighty more powerful heater or have a hot spot even though you have a heater in the skimmer because the temperature is going to change by tomorrow and your water bill will be a tad bit higher :)... I mean just get another heater cause no ones going to be doing a water change every 2 days, put the second heater under where the flow of the waterfall is, that way it'll push the heat further out with the waterflow and you already have a heater in the skimmer so just upgrade that one as well

    I guess for those who don't have a proper heater you gotta do what you gotta do but if one doesn't plan on adding a good pond heater then you just shouldn't have a pond.

    No this is so bad for the fish, buy proper pond heaters, and if you've got a big one buy two or three and keep it warm that way. You are only stressing out your fish with that hot water, and adding water everyday reduces the necessary bacteria in the pond that keep the fish alive and reduce ammonia- Believe me.

    This doesn't make sense: It is way more expensive than tossing a couple more heaters in and not having to stress the fish out with so much temperature fluctuation. They would fare much better with a consistent temperature!

    • @jodihenry1781
      @jodihenry1781 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @domzjb5053
      @domzjb5053 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      brandon quinn he has one in the skimmer, but it's clearly not powerful enough.. This method is wasteful cause he said he'd do it again in the morning if the water is cold.. Can you imagine doing that every couple morning when you can just get a heater for a 2000 gallon pond and call it a day lol

  • @francioscollins9355
    @francioscollins9355 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    With the power you using to fill the pond with hot geyser water you can just as well use a heater in the pond. You saving water and not using up all your house's hot water and have more consistent warm water in the pond which wont stress the fish.

    Hi Paul, I just discovered your channel & when I discover a new channel that I like I start watching all their videos in order from the very first to the most recent (in order). I'm a pond owner myself, my entire backyard is like an oasis. My pond is 30ft long, at the widest spot it's 17ft and 6ft deep at the lowest part. I'm a native Floridian like yourself, I love watching people build their own ponds, but the best DIY Ponds have come from owners who have taken the time to do research about what they want done to their pond. I'm sure somewhere in the rest of your videos that I have to watch you will have constructed a better pond than this on. It's ok for what it is, but you're missing some key elements my friend. For 1) you have no filtration that skimmer is not filter the water, it's doing exactly what the name says, skimming the surface of debris. 2) You have no bottom drain. 3) You really shouldn't use blue dye in your pond, makes it look cheat and thrown together. Take a look at some of the best ponds around the world, blue dye is no where in site. 4) Exotic fish in a pond in Florida do not not require a heater, especially fish that you have caught in the wild. Think about it, you're catching fish from nearby rivers, canals, surrounding neighborhood lakes, there are no artificial heating elementary in those bodies of water, everything is regulated by nature. But, if you must get one, get one that regulates the temp and can shut itself off during the day. If you have a heater heating the water to 85 degrees at night, think of what the water temp will be during the day time when the sun is at its highest in Florida. One heavy duty pond heater should be sufficient, because I've never heard of that "QUICK TIP" as you called it. In fact, that's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard of. If you do that every day in the winter, please tell me what you parents reaction is when they read their water bill, lol I would very much like to know.
    Do your research before hand kid, it's going to save you a lot of headaches & dead fish.

    Fish are used to living in water at colder temperatures. With the heater they should be fine. I wouldn't worry too much unless it gets way too cold. Around 60 degrees. 85 degrees is too high, sweat spot is 72-78

    you can actually add too much dechlorinator and make sure its a dechlorinator and declorimine as one without the other will leave you with ammonia. Adding too much can burn the gills and its best to drain and fill at same time to gradually acclimate the fish slowly....

    • @Anointed2flag
      @Anointed2flag 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can insure that by using Aquascape detox which is a dechlorinator and remove chloramine and chlorine and heavy metals....

  • @AustinFreemanSoccer
    @AustinFreemanSoccer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You're electric and water bill has gotta be super high... What you should do is invest in the heater that you have for your pond and lower the water temporarily then turn the heater on high. With less water the overall water temp will rise a lot faster and stay warmer. In the winter time you can simply keep the water level a bit on the lower side so your heater doesn't have to work as hard to keep the overall temp as high. More water = lower temp, Less water = higher temp.

      You don't really need to do a water change in an outdoor (planted) pond which is exposed to rain. Only when cleaning the filter and then topping up. If the water tests ok and there aren't any problems it's best to not mess with it.
