I find that it is a toxic culture among TH-cam beauty and fashion influencers. Each competes to show off their wealth by showing new luxury bags, jewellery and clothing. I think it becomes a place for dumb people to show who they really are
So true and this applies to everything in life! My chihuahua puppy has a TON of toys, but if I gave them all at once to him, he wouldn't play with any of them. I have to hide them and give him one new toy every week and then after a week I hide it again and rotate toys. That way, every week he thinks he has gained a "new" toy, but in reality its the old toy that has been waiting for his turn in the rotation wheel hahaha Whenever I want to buy another bag, I go shop to my closet and try best to use an old bag that I love, like my chihuahua ! big hug from Shanghai!
Funny enough, I've been doing the same with my little boy lol. I always make sure to put all the toys away and only give him a handful to play with. When he gets bored, I'll swap them. It works like magic xx
I love your videos. While I don’t think my bag and shoe collection is excessive, my perfume and skin care collection is. I used to buy so many to try or just because I love them. I also received so many perfumes as presents and now have several shelves full of perfumes. I stopped buying creams except what I actually need, and fragrances except if it’s something different from what I have. That brought my purchases down 99%! Now I’m working on downsizing that massive collection as part of a long term decluttering goal that includes everything in my house.
Honest and thought provoking video! It seems that some people do not understand minimalism and owning a few luxury items, and how they can coincide. It makes perfect sense to me, but then again, I have followed you for awhile now!❤️
Yes truly for me less is more. I will definitely enjoy my fewer luxury items than having about 50 or 60 of them just sitting on a shelf. I don't even go out that much.
Honestly possessions don't make anyone happy. Thats why we see people buying all the latest bags in each collection thinking the latest one will bring happiness. I often wonder where they wear them to especially in this pandemic. Don't get me wrong I buy a few myself and talk about them but contentment brings joy not possessions. Nice video :)
Perfect timing Eileen... I was shopping at the mall for some I really need. A new gym bag...mine ripped after 6 years of use. I was walking past my favorite skincare store and they were having a 30% off sale. I heard your voice and thought of the stockpile under my vanity and kept walking. I need to use up that stockpile before adding more or my pricey skincare goes out of code. Thanks Eileen for being my voice of reason :)
So well said, Noir! Loved it. I love the end part about how it's your own life and it's not showing off, no one but you sees your own financial security.
I have been around for a while and always worked in the financial industry. And never before have I seen more materialism then now. I wonder if these people have mortgages, save for emergencies, save for kids university cost, save for retirement and travel, give to charity. They just seem to spend, spend, spend. You cannot accumulate wealth if you all spend so much. Wealthy people dont need to prove anything to anyone.
Eileen, you said it perfectly! Use what you have and what you don’t, consider parting with. Less is truly more. Thanks for another great video and words of wisdom❤️
oh my gosh eileen the pandamic has really taught me alooot😅 I used to never sell my bags I keep them around and a couple months ago I finally did it (fendi, chloe, balenciaga) it felt sooo good now I have a more curated clean useful mature collection
Thank you for posting this. I am a self-confessed hoarder and shopaholic. Designer lipsticks alone, I have about 50 pcs that I have never worn in 2020. Now most of them are expired and that’s a lot of wasted money.
You must have a beautiful collection of teapots. I hope my video has inspired you to look into your collection. It's always Ok to keep what you love, but having anything in excess can start to feel like a burden xx
I don’t have any designer shoes (I wear orthopaedic shoes after military service), or clothes, etc. I have recently ordered a medium Chanel classic flap in black caviar (unsure how I’d go with softer leather). One bag does not a collection make, I can only use I bag @ a time. I own my home, 3 cars & am debt free. I don’t like buying anything for a quick “spark of joy”. Healthy minimalism is the way to go. Possessions do not make your mind healthy. Thank you for be so open & honest on your TH-cam channel. 🇦🇺💐
I totally agree... it's such a waste of money when you buy and don't use things with an expiration date. I've done this but learned from this lesson a long time ago. My other great lesson was to purchase a quality bag. I think back at all the wasted money buying cheap plastic but gorgeous bags, realizing the effect they had on me having to trash them after such a short period of time. I'm thinking of gifting a woman's shelter outreach with cosmetics, skin care and perfumes. Another wonderful video!🌼🌸🌼
Thank you for the advices. I do envy friends who purchase luxury items and parading them. Currently am livnig in a state that people are less incline to expensive luxury items. And I have no where to wear them to. That I agree that we never know what are other people situation in life. We should live life according to our own terms.
I'm glad I found your video. I dont really have luxury items but I feel I wasted so much money buying and accumulating purses, clothes, and things that i don't really need. Now, i just want to go to the mall if i need to buy something.
Your videos are the best. PURE TRUTH and COMMON SENSE. Those a few dislikes must be from marketing ppl from luxury brands that secretly hate on you for telling the truth.
Dear Eileen, This is so true! I have always wondered how much make-upe one person in their right mind can possibly use .. And knowledge and skills seriously rock:).
it gets really easy to get caught up with youtubers and instagramers posting new items every week. But you're right, it's just so unnecessary to buy just to have something new. Thanks for the great content
So true. In 2014 I cleared out and it felt good. It is amazing how we can accumulate so much stuff we don't use/love. I'm still working on being mindful. Thanks for sharing.
I just subscribed your channel. What a great video. You helped me a lot. I feel pretty good now. I really enjoyed your channel and love it! Thanks a lot! ❤️
You are so right. I am learning all of this the hard way. I look at all the money I could have had. With that said, I can still pay my bills, etc but I’ve been making conscious decisions about what I really need and trying to spend less as I have too much. Too much stuff causes clutter and stress as well.
Amazing video. Thanks for sharing. I also find it strange when people overindulge in luxury purchases. But do not look after their own body hair and nails. If one isn’t careful luxury buying can turn into a rat race, chasing a high that can never be found.
Thank you for this, Eileen. I love how you talked about the visual and invisible things in life. You’re right - we don’t need these things to give us value. 🌱
Agree with you wholeheartedly that it depends on your interests and lifestyle. Personally I understand why people in the entertainment industry ie. the Kardashian-Jenners have a big wardrobe. It's part of their jobs. They're trendsetters and I don't think anyone should fault them for that because that's what the public demands of them. For people outside of entertainment, then it wouldn't be neccessary. In the end its all up to you because we all have different interests and needs.
Excess skincare is also silly because products can have chemical reactions with each other! E.g., using retinol and vitamin c serum at the same time makes the vitamin c serum not work.
thank you Eileen. great advice! how about some tips on how to sell the luxury pieces that no longer serve us, when it's worth doing (or with what items is it worth doing) and what to expect?
I never do complicated skincare simply because I’m also lazy and since young, I always believe less is more. Just apply toner, moisturiser and sunscreen thats all. I used to work in financial sector but had switched mid career to be a healthcare worker and there is no meaning to wear make up under the masks in school and hospital ;) and I don’t need to buy new clothing or jewellery simply because I’m too lazy to change looks or styles. Bags wise, I just keep a small collection for luxury items and enjoy them to the fullest! When I see yr video, I can totally relate. 👍🏻 but I totally advocate healthy lifestyle by keeping healthy because health is wealth!
Hello dear , as usual ur videos are mesmerizing. I enjoy watching you chat endlessly. I have seen all your videos so far .. i agree with most of your opinions. I own 13 luxury hand bags and don't think ill buy any more for the next years to go . The last bag purchases i made weeks ago were a vanity PM LV bag and a fendi bag. I also don't prefer soending on small luxury goods or shoes . In regards to skin care i have been using dermalogica and it's amazing .. it's been 6 years since I started using it and I won't stop using it ever . Regards from Abudhabi👋♥️
Awesome as usual Eileen! I'm sure everyone that follows you can relate to a lot if not all the points you hit on...I agree, we don't have to validate who we are to others by what we own. Our own sense of self and happiness is what's important. 💓
I've been watching several videos by Justin Kan. He's a very successful entrepreneur and I loved when he talked about 'happiness is from within, never from external things'. Look him up 😇
I really prefer having less! I hate cluttering, no need of owning 50 bags that are just sitting there. I have only 6 and all of them get used plus it doesn’t take all the space in my closet. Same for everything, just a few nice pieces of jewelry, shoes and clothing. I quickly realized how more is just a burden and a total waste of money.
I don’t think a lot of ppl equate shopping with happiness. Shopping is used as a distraction from “life” or to numb one self from the mundane… basically as an escape

Good advice from you once again. Btw you look great today! I stopped buying as much skincare and makeup products these past two years. I just accumulated too much makeup over time and I couldn’t use all of it and some would even expire. As for small leather goods and FOMO, I put in my cart last night the toiletry 26 from fashionphile last night and I was about to check out when I came to my senses. I would love to get it at retail price of 580 but it looks like it has been removed from the LV website and I absolutely did not want to go wait in a two hour line in store today and then be told it is sold out. Maybe that shows I don’t want it so bad after all since I wasn’t willing to get in line. There will be other makeup pouches that will come out in the future. ♥️
@@ColourfulNoir I found out that the LV cosmetic pouch is priced around 550. I will decided to get it in the near future in the preloved market which will mean extra savings. Why pay 1000 for the toiletry 26 at the inflated price when I can get the cosmetic pouch to serve the same purpose at a much better price? It is surprising to me the cosmetic pouch is not more popular.

I think that Eileen’s story is similar to Confessions of a Shopaholic, they both found happiness in owning less.
I love that movie! xx

I agree! Cleaning is so much harder to do as well when there's clutter xx
Thank you Eileen! Good to keep in mind: “Enjoy what you already have and stop looking for more”.
Absolutely!! xx
Great topic, Eileen.
I do not understand why people will dislike this topic.
