Luxury is really an after thought. After the house is paid, the car is paid, pension is funded, emergency money is in the bank, then it’s the time for luxury. Then there is no guilt and only enjoyment. Be wise!! Great video.

Every TH-camr should watch this video. There are so many who are constantly buying and buying but what people don’t realize is that there’s some void they are trying to fill. I just hope they’re not going into total debt, especially the ones with families.

The French are well known for luxury minimalism. They buy few pieces of high quality luxury goods that will last for many years or decades with the possibility of passing them on to the next generation.

Minimalism is luxurious. Whether it is clothing, handbags, shoes, Knick knacks, just all stuff one can accumulate or collect. In the end it is hoarding. Just because they are expensive items, it’s still hoarding. It’s not a collection to own hundreds of bags, slg’s shoes etc. It’s hoarding. It is so wonderful to realize this and truly enjoy, love and use the few good items we have. To me, the realization of this and the journey to reach this point is true luxury.

They might have a problem. When people buy like that, regardless if they can afford it or not, they’re usually filling a void.

I'm not aiming to be a minimalist but I agree that less is more. When I started collecting luxury pieces, I just want a good variety in my collection. While I'm happy for those who can afford so many things, I'm glad that I was not influenced to do the same. I'm glad that I became your follower just when I was still starting. Your advices are very practical and I was able to apply them in most of my purchases. I'm done buying bags now, I'm looking at jewelries now but I'm still following the rule to buy less and only what I need. Happy holidays Eileen, thanks for all your videos!

I was happier when i had 5 bags. Open the closet, and i see 5 and not overwhelmed. Now i have 19 bags and i feel a heaviness. These are 19 bags i have to bring with me throughout my life. It's so pointless. Less is more. Wonderful video!

I have over 10 bags, purse and clutch . in my closet that I don’t think I have touched for the pass few years. I’m not even a clutch person. My items are still in good condition but selling price is so low. I don’t think it worth selling. But at the same time keeping them can stressed me out. Seeing expensive things that we paid so much to buy. And now I don’t know what to do with it. I wish I find her channel sooner.

I love this!! I think it’s also important to consider not accidentally putting yourself in the mindset of buying items you aim to have for your capsule luxury collection. For example thinking to yourself “i better buy a chanel bag because it’ll be the only black bag I’ll need”. Rather being happy with what you already own and slowly work up to selling other items you no longer need, then after lots of thought, purchasing items you realize you need for a specific function.

I completely agree with this. It’s pointless to have too many of one thing. I think lot of people do it just to show off. Better to have the iconic, timeless, signature ones that you can always use and it will never go out of style.

You have thought of everything...every reason to become more intentional in regard to possessions. And I admire you because you have achieved this decades before many of us do. Maintenance is also something to consider. An extreme example: I know a woman who has such an extensive fine arts collection that she hangs her paintings from wall to wall, floor to ceiling. She is constantly having to get her paintings professionally restored due to the dogs hitting them with their tails as they walk by and maids bumping cleaning implements into them. Her calendar is full of time- and energy-consuming expensive home maintenance items.

There are several reasons I’m trying to minimalize my belongings. I feel very stressed when I see clutter and so much STUFF everywhere. The less I see the better I feel. The more you own the harder it is to clean your home. Also the more you own, the more you have to worry about and maintain. We are so influenced by the media in all it’s forms. I grew up when all we had was television to be influenced by. Now it’s hard to get away from people constantly bombarding us with the next new thing we have to have. I’m at a point in my life and having poor health that I just want to simplify my life.

There’s nothing better than being satisfied with what you have. I want to declutter my home and try to be as minimal as I can in my belongings.
It doesn’t mean I don’t love nice things but I only need so many handbags, shoes, clothing, jewelry, etc. I think the more you have, you won’t appreciate or possibly even use all that you own. I truly believe that less is more. Wise words from you as always Eileen.😊❤️🙏🎄🎅🏼

This is the video I needed to see right now. I am in the process of downsizing everything. I have a fairly large collection of nice handbags and they actually take up a small closet in my downsized small house. I really do not need them all so time to donate and sell. This is irreplaceable advice and such a rare & wonderful consideration in this manic paced world of social media, Instagram & feeling the need for more, more, more. As a mother, I'm even learning how simplicity & less "stuff" in a child's environment (choices, toys, media, marketing, and other adult content) equals greater peace, ease & well-being for the child. There is something strangely fulfilling in less, in simplicity--in occupying that place of healthy balance in any & all areas of your life. Thank you for sharing & Happy Christmas to you!! 🌸

hi there! i'm mya & we're from the same country, Malaysia!🇲🇾 i'm so glad to have found your TH-cam channel where you discuss on luxury minimalism. i, myself love designer handbags. not all designer items like SLG, clothes or shoes, just handbags. i'm practicing extreme minimalism lifestyle here in 🇲🇾 but i can't seem to let go my love towards luxury handbags. i'm glad to say that i've curated a small designer handbags collection (5 in total). but this month, i've come to a realisation that there are some bags i don't normally reach out for. i don't use them to their fullest potential. starting 2021, i'm starting fresh. clean slate. sold all my designer handbags & kept only 1 Balenciaga everyday tote. honestly, none that i regret selling. i feel lighter, freer to go anywhere without thinking all these bags i've left behind at home. btw, super great jobs of making such awesome vids! people like me need this kind of content!👍🏻😄

Agree with every point you’ve made
I also think that it takes buying many items to actually learn what you actually like and will use. One needs to re-evaluate their collection and sell items they don’t use. Otherwise, we will accumulate a lot of clutter that takes up space physically and mentally. Great video,

Well said Eileen. True Minimal is more. I do enjoy luxury with good quality items that can last me many years to come. I enjoy seeing people dress with (be it an accessories or handbag) just an item of luxury that makes it pop rather than luxury from top to bottom which is so tacky in my opinion. That is why i intend to get a curated wardrobe since i am just starting my luxury journey. And yes and yes, do not need to worry about our items when we travel.

I totally agree with you. I've always prefered buy only one thing but if it had good quality ,design and an atemporal style. I usually to check the tags of the items and check if the composition is well ( i prefer natural materials like cotton,wool,cashmere,line...) and i don't like to pay more for something if it hasn't good quality ( i dont care the brand). But sometimes when you see a lot of TH-cam Videos it's easy to fall in these dinamic and start to buy more and more. But you always can stop it, think and realize what you want, what you need and what things you are going to use for long time ( a good inversion). I've discovered your channel recently but i like it so much

I totally agree. I cleared out four huge bags of clothes earlier in the pandemic. I donated them to a local charity. I love the idea of only having things I truly love and are beautiful. Impulse and sales shopping frequently results in clothes you wouldn’t have bought under other circumstances. I’d rather have one beautiful handbag than a dozen that I could live without.

I completely agree. Lately I've wanted to purge and have less clutter, which tends to stress me out. I grew up with hoarders and it was really hard on me having to compete with the "things" that took up the space. I also start to feel a bit overwhelmed when I see these crazy hauls from other TH-camrs. I can't help but wonder what they do with all their things...it just feels excessive to me.

    • @654ujala

I hear you! I’m going to wait until the end of next year to purge..since this has been an unusual year I want to make sure that I won’t have any regrets. I also wonder about these other youtubers. I think we have to remember that they sell to their subscribers or followers and it’s much easier for them to purge without losing money or time. When I sell on eBay I have to factor in the 13% Fee that e ay and PayPal charge. Anyway, I’ve started to look at many of these youtubers as shopping addicts that are stuck in a cycle and fueled by free stuff and sponsorships, etc.. That is not real life. It is clutter even when it’s organized nicely. Didn’t mean to rant in my response! heheheh

Exactly the video I needed to see! In the beginning of the year, I have downsized my luxury collection to about 10 bags. And then my mother passed away unexpectedly in February and well. I’m an emotional spender and also if I’m stressed I turn to shopping. I have shopped so much this year it’s become so overwhelming for me.
And we are preparing for a move and I am in that situation where I’d rather pack up and haul my household good myself cross country because of the luxury items I own. Which shouldn’t be like that. I should have to give more effort and time and money just to accommodate all my luxury items. At first we were suppose to move overseas and my luxury items (shamely) was holding me back. Which is such a shame.
I’m in the process of selling almost everything I bought this year and it has eaten up so much time and money. 2021 is the year to let go of my stuff and just enjoy a small luxury collection. And to get in the practice that it’s ok to not to have bag and to be ok with just admiring it from afar.
And for me it’s not just about the money wasted. But the time that I wasted to search and buy and wait for it to arrive and then having to sell it and all that jazz. I just want to enjoy the things. But on a much smaller scale!
Thanks for the inspiration and push.

I adore your videos Eileen. I will always stand by less is more. I would much rather have a minimal curated wardrobe then own too many items and not be able to enjoy those pieces individually. I see so many luxury influences buy so many items so frequently.... Hardly giving enough time to enjoy their recent purchase they're onto the next one, it's just a never ending cycle. I do enjoy watching luxury hauls but it's just seems like they make purchases every other week.

Hi Eileen , you are just spot on as usual. Really agree with the saying 'less is more' and think if you really need tgat particular item.
    I must say that
I have been always wanting to buy a luxury handbag for years and years, as this has been my dream ..and I mean years. but have been very patient and waiting for the right time . So my children are sorted with education and a good work , house etc ......
Also when i finally buy my well deserved bag :) it has to be one that is not going to sit in my wadrobe and look pretty but also functional. Again. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with us.

that's so true. that SM does promote excessive buying. That's why I try not to follow influencers and those who promotes buying new things. I think I got Diderot effect. lol After I got my first luxury handbag, I wanted to collect all the classic ones from most popular brands, especially since their price keeps increasing.
That's so true that when we have more, we also worry more. Man I also worry about my handbags whenever the fire alarm go up in my apartment building or when I am away. :(

I have never liked nor bought any branded stuffs. And I do appreciate your video and totally agreed with you. I appreciated my items and enjoyed with them however, I don't grow tremendous emotional attachment to them. I'm emotionally attached to my husband, my daughter and dog instead.
I'm considering to get few luxury items for the first time, only for special & social occasions with my husband. Luxury bags such as Hermes don't look fancy to me but it does boost social image. That's weird though but maybe I have to experience it to understand why many women bought it. It's like carrying lots of cash in your hands in the form of a bag and showing it off.
I'm looking for some videos and advice from experienced women and your video is quite helpful and healthy.
