This must be the extended edition, the WHOLE airplane escape /Mexico/ scene is new to me. I've seen this many, many, many, many times :P This was one of my Dad's favorite movies.
I grew up (an Army Brat) in and around the Army, mostly on US Army bases in Germany in the 1980s. All we did was watch movies on VHS. We had only one English TV channel the US Army channel "Armed Forces Network". 😛

Fun Fact: I lived in Germany for a couple of years, and I found out that they like to re-title movies. The English translation of the title of this movie is (and I’m not kidding): “I Think I Just Kissed a Moose” - I have no idea why. It cracks me up.😂

seen this so many times. Never saw a couple of those scenes you found a bonus addition apparently. Didn't see them take acid and head to South America. And when the commander tells them its three days til graduation, don't remember that. For sure not how basic training really works. But a funny movie none the less.

I know you said you weren’t familiar with Warren Oates. He was a great character actor who sadly died only ten months after Stripes came out in April 1982. Check out The Wild Bunch and Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia as well as Dillinger from 1973. Great actor and sounds like he was a cool dude. Judge Reinhold said on set of Stripes when cameras weren’t rolling Oates would tell the actors in his platoon stories about working with Sam Peckinpah and they were all blown away. Great actor sadly departed way too soon.

I've loved this movie since the year it came out. Until this year, though, via another reaction channel, I didn't even know there were cut scenes; never saw those scenes, including the Mexico stuff, until this past year, 40 years later.

This is such a great movie. The actors didn’t know during the barber scene that they were actually getting their hair shaved. Murray and Ramis didn’t have to due to their status so Candy’s reaction walking out of the barber shop was real. Did you catch the names they gave when they tried to desert? Dodge and DeSoto. Two types of cars. KP is kitchen duty.

This is great comedy. I've never seen the extended version before with the plane. The regular version cuts that out completely, and jumps to the scene where the sergeant says that members of the platoon left the barracks and they have to own up. That scene always confused me a little. Until now.

I finished Navy boot camp shortly before I saw this for the first time and was still going through advanced training and laughed my ass off.
A number of things that came to mind for me:
    1. When men get their haircuts everyone looks like Ox and Cruiser. No exceptions.
    2. There are always more than one DI per company. Meaning the scene where they go to graduation on their own wouldn't exist.
    3. You can NOT put the pin back in the grenade. It's also highly unlikely the Captain would have access to live ammunition in his office since it needs to be accounted for.
    4. IRL he couldn't just lift the fence like that.
    5. PJ Soles is my "future ex-wife". Honeymoon only should work.😍🥰😋
    6. The segment when they go to Mexico wasn't in the original release.

Fun Fact: According to Ivan Reitman in the DVD commentary, the scene where Bill Murray is loading the rich woman's suitcases into the trunk and he hits himself in the crotch was an accident. Murray's "Oh, my balls." was a real reaction.
Bonus Fact: Bill Murray and Sean Young did not get along. Young did not like Murray's method of ad-libbing during scenes. He vowed to never work with her again.
Bonus Fact: The US Army was actually very helpful and cooperative during filming, which surprised Ivan Reitman since the script depicts the military as being made up largely of buffoons.

This is the uncut extended version. Neat I've never seen this version before. They didn't have the acid, skydiving, natives part in the original.

No when they went mudwrestling they were on leave actually.

As a Bill Murray fan, this is lower than Groundhog Day, Ghostbusters, and Meatballs, but it is above Caddyshack and some of his other films. I always liked the chemistry between Harold Ramis and Bill Murray as they play off each other so well. I also enjoyed John Candy's performance. You can see by this film that he was going to have a great Hollywood career. I do like the premise of the movie and I think it was a good way to demonstrate the slacker goofball fish out of water story.

The DVD version and I guess the BluRay version as well, had deleted scenes that were filmed but hadn't gone through final processing. At the beginning you had the option to include them in the movie where they were supposed to be placed for a type of extended cut.
There was also a PG version of this movie that cut out all the nudity and added extra scenes NOT seen in the regular version to make up for the time, this is the version shown on broadcast television. I remember a scene showing the mud wrestling showers and where you went after the match to clean up.

You should have watched the original version shown in theaters....this one has extra scenes that drag the movie, the tripping on the plane and parachuting scene was irrelevant and unnecessary.

Yeah that messed me up. I have seen the original version probably 20 times and there are scenes here I never saw and I agree, none were necessary.

The scene where they go to Mexico wasn't in the orriginal theatrical version. It's a weird scene that doesn't really fit the film. It works better without it.
