You know manga blew up in the west, and showed how profitable the market was through piracy? None of the previous sonic manga promoting the games have ever been translated before. it's not morally wrong for their main audience to want access to the content.

Fans definitely could've handled it better, especially those who bragged about the leaks to the author. But wanting people to wait for the possibility to read a manga that's explicitly promotional material with no current plans to bring to the west is silly. It's unfortunate for sure but it brings way more awareness than buying it without official translations. We'll see if it gets a physical release though. I'll support it then.
1. It didn't ruin anything because very few people knew of the existence of this manga (the announcement of it was catastrophic, no advertising apart from some image posted online by the mangaka) 2. This is not a leak since the manga is already out. It's just an unauthorized publication of the manga 3. I agree to respect the mangaka's choice regarding his manga but I think that Sega should have rather warned the fans that this one does not want a translation. Most of the fans who did this didn't know that the mankaga didn't want it.

While they shouldn't be bragging about it, until there's a localisation, I don't see the point in buying something for the hopes that next time I get what I want. Same thing with Colours Ultimate. People said I should buy Ultimate even with the issues so that I get a remaster I actually want next time.

You know what sucks about this, this manga could've helped Sonic be more popular in Japan as the series isn't that popular over there as it is in the west. Call me naive,but Sonic being more popular in Japan could bring major improvements to the franchise and maybe give us higher-quality games because Sega is mainly a japanese company after all. you say this isn't a piracy high horse video but... it was released without a translation in a region locked way, piracy is literally the only way to access it for many people. i do agree industry leaks are a huge problem but 1) this isn't a leak 2) why buy something untranslated when the fan translation exists 3) most pirates literally have no legal avanue to aquire the comic. i won't deny there would be a few japanease folks who are pirating which could purchase, but we're talking english here, we're talking about the english speaking fans. and in that case, sonic mangas NEVER get translated, the brand has been split from japan and american for its entire existance, that's not going to suddenly change.
The answer is very simple. Buy the official product and then read a translation because you’re supporting the creators. They don’t make much off of this stuff. It’s hardly any money to do it. I and many others do it all the time

Idk if you saw but the issue of corcoro with the shadow manga actually became a amazon best seller (idk if it is still). I would love to get the shadow manga but I do not want to pay for a chance to get something translated. I'm begging the sales do good enough where they decide its a good idea.

Me and a forum of buddies have been buying a digital Japanese magazine each week for a new chapter of a manga in there for years. Said manga NEVER got an English release and never will. I'm not supporting whats going on here, don't get me wrong, I'm hoping that Shadow will someday get an English release so everyone can enjoy it.
I mean... I'm gonna be reading it online anyways, I might buy it later to have it but I'm not paying to read a comic, especially when you can find every other Sonic comic for free online

Actually the whole thing boils down to this: Don't support Pirates, show demand for localization of the japanese media as a whole and support the official release. The practice you just shown is nothing new and the Fanslations been doing this for decades. The only excuse I could gather is that they fear SEGA doesn't see the need to ship it overseas since they already got IDW to do the comic there; which is a shame since it was contaminated with Archie Comic's style of storytelling for over 30 years at this point. Hell, I even bet they did this to get Windii to scanlate the whole thing.

Some people have said that Corocoro is getting worked up over what's basically free advertisement, and, in a way... I think that's right. When it comes to this issue, I am fully on board with being smarter about how the manga is shared online for those who can't access it conventionally. That would be the best course of action if we want the manga to continue as it's meant to. *That being said* , the reason all of this happened in the first place is nothing we should look past or scoff at. The manga was distributed for a Japanese market exclusively, giving no easy or direct access to support it from outside of Japan. They were NOT considering sales outside of Japan; if we didn't know about the manga's existence, we wouldn't even care, let alone buy it. They are not losing sales they didn't account for, so that isn't a problem, and taking this into consideration, it wouldn't be outlandish to gather that sharing the manga for free and translated online with everyone who wasn't part of the target audience, could actually work in their favor. If anything, all this drama is going to cause a lot of panicked Sonic fans in the west to do damage control by purchasing the manga *by any means necessary* , which, if the manga was published and sold via Japanese stores and websites for Japanese customers, wasn't something that was even supposed to happen to this big of a scale, or at all. Honestly, I find it saddening that SoJ acts so overly protective of their exclusive Sonic media (apparently it's not the first time something similar has taken place), specially considering that Sonic games and the franchise as a whole has consistently been supported majoritarily by western audiences since the beginning, therefore, acting like they're uncertain about expanding the market for *all* content and merchandise Sonic related to outside of Japan because it wouldn't be good business is just... baffling, to me. How can they be so blind? And I'm saying this as a Chilean fan; it's bad enough that we don't get much on our side (speaking for other Latino countries too) and often have to go out of our way to access things that don't leave the States. We have to pay double or tripple the price for merch, special editions, whatnot. It's even *harder* for us to buy things directly from Japan (I've tried multiple times to purchase Japanese manga from Amazon or other stores, including this corocoro issue, and it's pointless. I'd have to get a VPN or seek out a middleman service, which would entirely defeat the point of getting Corocoro to aknowledge that someone bought their magazine from overseas).

Yeah, the other sonic fans should've waited till after SxShGens released to do this, or could've waited patiently for Sega to eventually announce an official English translation, but then again we Sonic Fans might just be the main catalyst for the whole Sega screws up thing: For example, Sega makes Sonic cool again>Fans fuck up something or do complain like babies>Sega conviently screws up again>Fans blame Sega>Sonic Series goes dormant>Rinse and Repeat.
They should’ve just released an English version alongside the Japanese one. CoroCoro Comics have done Sonic stories before where they never make their way out of Japan, so I wouldn’t be surprised if fans think this manga won’t be translated officially. Not bringing it overseas is asking for the book to be pirated. There’s a demand for this book but it seems CoroCoro isn’t interested in a translation right now. Demand but no supply = piracy. Simple as that. Why should English speakers have to buy a book they can’t read? Are they supposed to pray that *maybe* it’ll get officially translated? Is that what we do now? I don’t exactly see how my comment is incorrect. Piracy *is* a service issue. It always has been. CoroCoro simply could’ve made preparations or already had an English version available and this situation wouldn’t have gotten to the point it has. CoroCoro comics has made Sonic comics before and they don’t have a good track record with having English versions of their stories. The general audience (especially kids, the target audience) aren’t going to pay for a book they can’t read anyway, that’s probably only something a big fan would do. So if you want to read the manga and you’re an English speaker the only way to read the manga is by pirating it. That’s a nice sentiment but unlikely for the majority to do. You must remember that CoroCoro is a company comprised of adults that understand the laws of supply and demand. Unfortunately, I can't actually buy the manga, but I will still try to support it by word of mouth. My only problem with this video is the way it frames every Sonic fan. You did say it's only the dumbasses on Twitter, just like every other fanbase, but also just like every other fanbase, it's a loud minority. There are millions, if not _tens_ of millions of us out there. Only a few hundred/thousand are doing this. With that in mind, please don't make your first impressions so hostile. As someone who is a fan of beyblade and read the fan translation once of the Shadow manga and Beyblade manga. Fucking awful dude, I really like how you mentioned websites that aren’t small and can be used by a community or files shared within a community cuz it isn’t big and stuff it also gives people the chance to read and bc it is a small community it doesn’t have to much effect. I read the translation for Shadow online and so I read it cuz I knew it would be taken down and then just put on websites or whatever and then the stuff I mentioned happens and things would be fine. @@Pan-cackeseven if it is, the purpose of the Manga is to influence Japanese newcomers as part of SXSG promotions as well as Sonic movie 3. Yes sonic as a franchise is not huge in Japan, but SA2 was really popular in the past. So Sega wants to use that opportunity again in this year.

Sonic Fans really needs to learn about be respectful on how to share information on content from Coro Coro. They stopped sharing new information of any new Pokemon Games because of such. First, these arent leaks, they came out after the full release so that issue is gone.
Second the Mangka not wanting an english translation is... just weird. (To be clear i am NOT condoning anyone "bragging" about illegal activity to him, thats clearly just gross and wrong) and indicates that its even less likely an english translation is in the works tgan when we just had corocoro's track record to go off
Third supporting the japanese language version of corocoro is unlikely show that theres demand for a translated version of the Shadow manga
Fourth a large company ssebtially threatening the livelihood of an artist because they dont want to spend the money to translate the manga is a sign of their own stuborness to not translate it not the effect of fan translations (regardless of how bad faith those translations are) into a language they had no intentions of providing an official release for anyway

Me and a forum of buddies have been buying a digital Japanese magazine each week for a new chapter of a manga in there for years. Said manga NEVER got an English release and never will. I'm not supporting whats going on here, don't get me wrong, I'm hoping that Shadow will someday get an English release so everyone can enjoy it.

Actually the whole thing boils down to this: Don't support Pirates, show demand for localization of the japanese media as a whole and support the official release. The practice you just shown is nothing new and the Fanslations been doing this for decades. The only excuse I could gather is that they fear SEGA doesn't see the need to ship it overseas since they already got IDW to do the comic there; which is a shame since it was contaminated with Archie Comic's style of storytelling for over 30 years at this point. Hell, I even bet they did this to get Windii to scanlate the whole thing.

Some people have said that Corocoro is getting worked up over what's basically free advertisement, and, in a way... I think that's right. When it comes to this issue, I am fully on board with being smarter about how the manga is shared online for those who can't access it conventionally. That would be the best course of action if we want the manga to continue as it's meant to. *That being said* , the reason all of this happened in the first place is nothing we should look past or scoff at. The manga was distributed for a Japanese market exclusively, giving no easy or direct access to support it from outside of Japan. They were NOT considering sales outside of Japan; if we didn't know about the manga's existence, we wouldn't even care, let alone buy it. They are not losing sales they didn't account for, so that isn't a problem, and taking this into consideration, it wouldn't be outlandish to gather that sharing the manga for free and translated online with everyone who wasn't part of the target audience, could actually work in their favor. If anything, all this drama is going to cause a lot of panicked Sonic fans in the west to do damage control by purchasing the manga *by any means necessary* , which, if the manga was published and sold via Japanese stores and websites for Japanese customers, wasn't something that was even supposed to happen to this big of a scale, or at all.
Honestly, I find it saddening that SoJ acts so overly protective of their exclusive Sonic media (apparently it's not the first time something similar has taken place), specially considering that Sonic games and the franchise as a whole has consistently been supported majoritarily by western audiences since the beginning, therefore, acting like they're uncertain about expanding the market for *all* content and merchandise Sonic related to outside of Japan because it wouldn't be good business is just... baffling, to me. How can they be so blind? And I'm saying this as a Chilean fan; it's bad enough that we don't get much on our side (speaking for other Latino countries too) and often have to go out of our way to access things that don't leave the States. We have to pay double or tripple the price for merch, special editions, whatnot. It's even *harder* for us to buy things directly from Japan (I've tried multiple times to purchase Japanese manga from Amazon or other stores, including this corocoro issue, and it's pointless. I'd have to get a VPN or seek out a middleman service, which would entirely defeat the point of getting Corocoro to aknowledge that someone bought their magazine from overseas).

They should’ve just released an English version alongside the Japanese one. CoroCoro Comics have done Sonic stories before where they never make their way out of Japan, so I wouldn’t be surprised if fans think this manga won’t be translated officially.

You must remember that CoroCoro is a company comprised of adults that understand the laws of supply and demand. They likely understood that the book was going to become pirated by fans in other regions (the artist even admitted this) yet still complain when the book is mass pirated. Of course the book is gonna be mass pirated by English fans of this IP that is more popular in the west than it is in Japan DURING THE YEAR OF SHADOW, meanwhile, water is wet and the sky is blue.
Bottom line, CoroCoro should’ve just made an English version, because obviously.

My only problem with this video is the way it frames every Sonic fan. You did say it's only the dumbasses on Twitter, just like every other fanbase, but also just like every other fanbase, it's a loud minority. As someone who is a fan of beyblade and read the fan translation once of the Shadow manga and Beyblade manga.
