Greatest pop rock vocalist. Yes, it's a subjective opinion, but Steve Perry had the best combination of tone, control, range, power, etc. He sings the soundtrack of so many people's lives.
@@richprokop5155 My favorite band of All Time is Led Zeppelin but Plant doesn't have the range or control to compete with Petty. Queen is ok, but Mercury doesn't have the tone and his range is over rated. He screamed too much in the higher register.
For me, Steve Perry is such a summary of my teenage years. I love his voice and I treasure the memories I associate with his songs as a member of Journey and his solo career. What a voice!!! and what a treasure. Thank you, Steve for the memories!!!!
Something happened as a group when Steve joined Journey. All the songs were so magical and ALL the miscicians were excellent and the sounds/songs were just so perfectly executed and balanced. Their concerts were just amazing musical and physical feats. Truly they were just incredible as that special group. i was a senior in Highschool in 1981 and i never got to see Journey live, but i had all their records on vinyl. I have watched several of their concert from the time here on you tube from 1981 in Houston and in Chicago Soldier Field and in Japan. The recordings are so good it is alnost like being on stage ... i love it ... sure takes me back! A person really feels like you are truly right there and it 8s happening in real time when i watch on my my big flat screen! 😊😊😊😊
Musicians can be so jealous and they were so jealous of Steve Perry. Ego destroys a lot of great things. I wish Steve all my BEST because he has the most amazing voice.
Forget about the vocalist's who tried to replace Steve Perry. What about the man behind the drum kit for the past 20 some years in Journey, "Deen Castronovo." No disrespect to any of the singers who've been in Journey post Perry days. But if you've never heard Deen sing & play drums at the same time live in concert, check em' out, seriously? Deen's the real deal & a monster vocalist/drummer. Just saying... ✌️😜
And of course no one will ever be Steve Perry, but as great as Steve's voice is or was at least. Why would you wanna sound exactly like Perry anyway really? Be yourself that's what it's all about my friends. "Originality" is what separates the good from the greats who leave their mark in music history, no doubt. Think about it, singers who try to duplicate or happen to sound close to one of the greatest singers in music before them. Will always be known just as that, the guy or girl who sounded just like this or that vocalist's instead of being one of the greats in music themselves. It is what it is, facts & real talk. 🤘😎🤘 ☮️
His voice is just so soft and powerful at the same time, kind, tender, sweet. I just close my eyes and enjoy every soft ballad, his real bussines is music. Granted by God.
I have always loved "Don't Stop Believin'." I still remember the day back in September 1981 at the age of 14 buying _Escape_ and discovering the entirety of that amazing song for the first time. It has since taken on mythical proportions and it deserves it. Well-done, Steve, Jon and Neal.
Nothing like being in the Giants ball park during the playoffs and World Series and Steve Perry is there ...During the 7th inning stretch he would lead the ballpark in singing Dont Stop Believing and Lights.....Bay Area loves this guy....

The 80s was the most creative decade in popular culture. Steve Perry and Neil Schoon were the leaders with Journey. It’s a pity we cannot see one more reunion from these living legends.
There was something in the air at the time that the power ballads appeared. Journey, Chicago and the Doobie Brothers are the big three that comes to mind that transformed themselves into something other than their original sound.

Factually, Dan Rather has interviewed some very "Distinguished People." 😉 🎤 👏🏻👏🏻 Truthfully speaking, Steve Perry is a very Humble man. His grandfather died in 1988. What Steve Perry said is that he wish his grandfather was around to witness that interview because then he'd say such a thing... but his grandfather told him no such line.
besides being in the Rock&Roll HOF, being invited to sing a line in We Are The World is an indictment in itself that not only he is an amazing vocalist but also how popular he is as a singer in a band.
It took WAY too long for Journey to be elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Steve Perry will always be the "Voice". They had hits in several decades and filled arenas too. Journey was one of the best live bands and seeing them in concert in the early 1980's was special.

WINDS OF MARCH is a trip, PATIENTLY, WHEEL IN THE SKY, LA DO DA, FEELINN THAT WAY and... of course... LIGHTS !!!! After that, to me, Journey became commercial. Nothing comes close to INFINITY!
Steve Perry is a gentleman and a great singer/songwriter combined. Obviously Journey all did it together back then, but for us fans of that genius voice AND music carrying on without him the way they did is inexcusable. They have been ABOMINABLE since firing him. Not trying to sound biased, but Journey needed Steve as their frontman period- who else is that Iconic in Journey as singer? When it was him and Gregg together case closed.
I definitely agree, even before he joined I didn't like journey. He was so great, his voice was fantastic. I was so upset when he left. He took too long to come out in public again. Still love you Steve❤.
Plus Steve would rather leave his legacy in music in place with dignity. Instead of jeopardizing his own integrity by possibly losing it on the big stage in exchange for the greed of money. Priorities people, "integrity & dignity" are 2 of the only things you leave with in this world, cuz you can't take the money with you. ✌️😉 Keep On Keeping On!
