Just one more thing I wanted to point out that we all missed. When the Chaplain shoots the DG who tried to shot Kazarion and he dodged, Raphael actually shoots his entire hand off, along with his gun. By the time Kazarion cuts off his other arm, that DG was already disarmed once, and now twice. Bloke can't get a break :^))

While this was a great cinematic, I'm shocked at how far ahead the ASTARTES shorts were, even today, not only in aesthetic, but sound and action as well.
Astartes is the best piece of sci-fi/Fantasy I’ve seen, period. It’s peerless. I’m very open and would love to know what else is out there, but seriously can’t think of anything in the same league.
Astartes managed to make me feel something close Transhuman Dread in the way it depicted the sheer brutality, speed and cunning of Space Marines. No other cinematic has yet achieved that. Leagues ahead.
Well you cant really compare it, can you. Totally different Art Style and Story telling. Angels of Death was made from the Guy that made Helsreach. He got a Deal with GW as we all know. So i think its also very very Good both of them. Helsreach Style was, cause that Guy was a Newbie to Animations etc. He kept his Artstyle although improved with a Team on Angels of Death. Its just plain different than Astartes and has definetly its Charm! Astartes was single minded on Visuals and Sound. Not much of Story telling compared when it comes to Voicelines. It plays with your imaginaion. Although a Masterpiece, of course ^^
I like how Raphael understands that many loyalists are quite capable of damning themselves but rather then use fear (at least not entirely) he actually inspires them to be loyal
I think this is up there with helsreach in terms of portrayal of chaplains. You can really imagine being an Astartes with a chaplain teaching you the lore of your blood.
The Astartes creator nailed Space Marines even better than this, his depiction of them was fast, furious, accurate and strong. Their movements were crisp and precise, nothing sluggish about them. Astartes has done one of the best jobs ever seen, getting close to the lore.
yeah Boylan (Angels of death director) says he thinks of space marines as walking slow moving tanks - which is contrary to lore of space marines - maybe to eldar but to everyone else they aew fast and swift - like in astartes
@mohammadalirashed3103 it is not a sin to commit to something. If what you commit to is restrained by a code. A killer can be skillful, intelligent, perfect. But if all of those actions are driven by a motive of evil . Selfishness, anger, unchained emotion, which is zeal. Than it is useless. Control is all that separates men from beasts.
Also I’m pretty sure the angels of death stuff is from Richard boylan who did helsreach. A lot of the initial sound assets were from his screen play. If you haven’t watched it I suggest you give it a go, very well done adaptation
It will still never cease to amaze me that one man managed to create the best piece of war hammer animation I’ve ever seen. They should’ve just given him money and said do whatever you want, it would automatically be solid gold and something people would pay for.
This is true, but the shot-callers and bean counters at GW will never do that. They want fans to praise "Games Workshop animations" as opposed to any individual animator. Also there's a substantial amount of malicious greed involved. They want to be the only ones making money on 40k, even if it means that they will make less overall, as long as only GW gets paid from 40K. Their animators get a low budget and a tight deadline as opposed to huge bonuses and public praise. This is why I can never spend another cent on WH40k, unless they revert their bullshit, let the fans do their thing, and pay the animators more than they'd possibly make on Patreon. It is sad cause the above animation is great and Id love to watch it all.
The warhammer ip is a literal goldmine for something like that to happen. When you have such a big fanbase and so many content creators who make content about your ip for free it's any capatalist's dream. It's free advertisement. Approach some of them to make deals and guidelines, have some product placement/actual ads in their videos. It's so simple. But nah, GW storms out the gate with takedowns, legal action and woke shit no one asked for. They make a cash grab with Primaris which was so unnecessary. Many different factions had been neglected in the table top and what do they do? Change the rules and make new models and powercreep for the most popular faction. Greed Short-sightedness A lack of respect for their own ip no integrity. I hope anyone who plays 40k uses 3d printed models or buys them 3rd hand. Let GW bleed until they learn the lesson. Money is the only language big companies understand. When they make a good product without fucking over their fanbase then can people think about investing in them again.
Fighting in a hive infected by nurgle and against the death guard has to be some of the most horrific things you can do in the 40k universe. Thanks for the drop man this is sick asf.
The moment Raphael turns, at 15:45. Even if the helmet is incapable of changing expression, I love how the director played with the lighting to make it look like he is frowning as he readies to scold the other Astartes.
One detail you missed...as Kizzy charged the Knurghts a white feather fell in the wake of his charge. A sign of the presence of the Primarch in spirit?...a foreshadowi of him regaining control?
Primarchs are not giant men, they are genetic constructs used as a vessel for a Warp Spirit bound to them by the Emperor, and their gene-sons carry a dormant fragment of that power. The angel wing symbolizes the moment this particular gene-son of Sanguinius channels the Warp essence (a small part of it, only one feather) of his Primarch and thus gains extra speed, strength and ferocity.
One thing i really liked was how the 2 marines got across the bridge after the death gaurd emerged from the blood river. They used fire and maneuver, one shooting, the other moving, frog leaping until they got into cover.
Looks like Kazarion rolled double sixes wounding both Death Guards with a chainsaw. Edit: Wow, after they killed the Two Death Guards...when they entered that huge chamber. The music is very reminiscent of Blade runner.
When I started collecting Blood Angels almost 30 years ago it was because I saw a red armoured guy with a chainsword and the shop keeper said that's a space vampire...then I dug deeper into the lore and it was the best rabbit hole I have encountered. Other chapters are cool too, but there is something about the BA's that is unique and I'm not talking about the Death Company etc lol.
Honestly I always found how they were on the verge of getting destroyed literally like *right* before sangy was found to be super interesting, and shows the contrast between the revenants and blood angels
There is a trick to it, but once the Black Rage is engaged, psyker powers, Warp curses, plagues and other nasty events cannot take effect anymore. The spirit of the Space Marine is replaced by the Angel, and nothing else can enter it that place. The Space Marines become unstoppable rage engines, which sometimes left entire Imperial worlds empty of life, be they enemies, civilians or Guards, and a sea of blood in their wake.
I'm super happy that we got to see more of Chaplain. He was my favorite from the first season and it really felt like a punch to the emotional spectrum the way they unalived him. We all could use a friend like Chaplain in our lives...
I really liked the bounding over-watch on the bridge ambush. One astarte is always providing cover fire while the other moves. Not sure if it matters against the Death Guard, but good doctrine is still good.
Chaplain is my favorite character in the first series. I felt just like Kaz when he screamed "NOoooo" as The chaplain got domed. Love the content thank you. I like to watch the break downs even tho I've seen the episodes already.
@@nikpapado9785 I think they're fine doing what they are now. I am looking forward to Henry Cavill's new series in the Grimdark. But too much mainstream exposure could corrupt it entirely. For the Empress could very well be a rallying cry in a summer blockbuster that people would despise because it betrayed its roots, if GW isn't careful. But I at least trust Henry to do his right.
Just a note, the Black Rage is not a result of the Red Thirst. The Red Thirst is a separate gene flaw, and in fact the one the Blood Angels want to keep hidden from the Imperium at large, as unlike the relative honor of the Black Rage (from the psychic backlash of their Primarch's death), the Red Thirst had always been there, and thus a source of shame (and potential for blamming due to being a harmful mutation).
This is easily one of the best Warhammer animations I’ve ever seen, visually and narratively. I especially like the chaotic shaking around Kazarion when the Plague Marines are approaching. Great horde and champion battle story overall.
Same! Thats the first thing i noticed too, animations was very polished and intricately detailed and movements of the marines were smooth and can i say natural like
I think Games Workshop feels they're on the brink of getting big, so good on them for improving their animation. WH40K is getting more and more popular as the days go by.
Astartes is the best piece of sci-fi/Fantasy I’ve seen, period. It’s peerless. I’m very open and would love to know what else is out there, but seriously can’t think of anything in the same league.
I'm so glad they gave up the white black and red color pallette. It was literally an eyesore to watch. Muted colors with the reds accenuated is a MUCH better sight to look at. Also gives the scene more contrast.
I feel like the audio for the chainswords and bolters could use a little work. The chainswords sounded more like a slow rotary saw or a steel chain being pulled, and the bolters could use more punch. Not quite up to astartes but nice to see they're giving the animators a budget now
Amazing episode, my one criticism is the promethium part. That was a damn lot of promethium, not even a space marine could deal with that intense of an explosion so close. Veeeery reckless chaplain, very reckless
It is entirely lore-accurate. Promethium mass-deflagration has been used many times in 40k books as a means to dispose of overwhelming numbers of enemies, or as miles-long jets of terrible fire-melting streams pumped from deep reservoirs as ad-hoc (or not) long range flamers.
Hey Devil. Did you notice that Kazarion and the Chaplain bounded across the bridge and kept talking guns? Watching it at first, it seemed like movement across the linear hazard (bridge) was slow and put them in the Death Guard's sector of fire for too long. But then again... Astartes can probably tank plenty of rounds in that armor, so short, quick successive bounds might be a viable SOP. Also, IIRC the creator of Helsreach and Angels of Death is a former Canadian Soldier - so this addition of Small Unit Tactics with an Astartes flavor is a nice touch.
I did and really enjoyed the fire and maneuver but they did step out a bit too much sometimes but I get they have to make it more visually appealing over Tacticool.
@@Counterpoints To be fair you need anti-tank weaponry to reliably punch through Astartes power armor. Even bolters have trouble punching through them unless you manage to hit a weak point like the one the Chaplain took in the episode.
@@Counterpoints True that. All that said, its good to see SMs "fighting smart." There's only so many times you can watch a few Astartes standing tall, mag dumping and screaming something about the "Emperor" before you start wondering when the howitzers are coming in.
@@amirsafwan8491 Which is why I think the successive bounding they did works in my head canon. Also, I think its hard to drop to prone in that armor...
It really saddens me that artists don't seem to grasp the concept of poxwalkers. Poxwalkers are not zombies. They don't suffer in death. They are very much alive and they are enjoying it. They love all the gifts of Nurgle and they always smile
indeed. They think Nurgle to be the plague god. When in fact he's the god of despair, the last resort you turn to in desperation. Papa Nurgle takes all.
I forgot the name of the movie. But something like "happiness". Not the happy romantic ones. But it's an Asian zombie movie, counterpart to western horror comic "Sadist" or something. Where the virus targets the human brain and forces them to go violent to pursue excitement, the virus also makes them think and see normal whilst non-infected ones see madness in them. A virus that looked like " what if Slaanesh takes Nurgle's class lesson how to cultivate bacteria/virus." Generally. To blood angels they looked like zombies crawling in sewers, to pox walkers they may have seen themselves as hippies on high drugs af, embracing Nurgle's sweat shower in a spa.
@@TaigaShark-ij8oh so... The virus in the movie is kinda like toxoplasmosis in a way then But poxwalker models are actually smiling. I believe it's the way they look to any spectator
Totally agreed! I think this is the best animation GW has done to date! Just the amount of reality stitched into every scene is truly inspiring! I did have THE TINIEST of niggles with the moment at the end where Raphael took his helmet off, though. There is a reason why chaplains helms are different from the standard battle brother's. They are expected to become MORE than human, even in the eyes of their fellow Astartes. It's something that is imperative to their roles as spiritual leaders. As a result, its actually a rule that chaplains are not allowed to remove their helmets unless they are only in the company of other chaplains or captains. Anyone below that rank needs to see them as this literal embodiment of death! There is a bit of me that can excuse it, though, because in the main series, they established that Raphael has been with Kazarion even before he was a neophyte. So it's very possible that he broke protocol with Kazarion but wouldn't have with any other marine.
Blood angels chaplains have to keep their brothers from falling to the rage, reminding them of humanity and that they are still human is a good way to do that. Also, let's be honest astorath never wears his helmet
In fact Raphael acts as his Primarch. It was Horus who discovered the curse of black rage when he overheard Sanguinus delivering the deathblow to one of his children. Sanguinus begged him not to say anything. He probably feared to suffer the fate of the II and XI legions. That's how this episode sends us back to 40k lore. Blood Angels and Dark Angels will do anything to cover up their secrets...
@@reddeath4806You sure? I'm certain the rage was a thing, just not as prominent. I know the excerpt he's talking about and the marine attacks Sanguinius screaming and raving mad. He attacks his own Primarch. I'm not sure the thirst gives that levels of rage.
The black rage is the psychic wound that affected all blood angels when Sanguinius died. He was a highly psychic primarch, and Horus used immense psychic torture on him both in the run up to and during their battle. Think some of the recent novels have messed up the lore a bit over time. Hate this idea of fatalism over cause and effect with a lot of the legions
@@ironduke5058 The Red Thirst is really similar to the Black Rage in that when a Blood Angel goes over the edge, there's almost no chance of coming back, they'll be formed into a Death Company or locked away forever. The difference is that there's a way to stave off the Thirst, via drinking blood. Another difference is that when one succumbs to the Red Thirst, instead of raving on about being Sanguinius and everyone around you being Horus, you instead pretty much turn into a vampire whose only thought is drinking blood of your enemies. The story you're thinking of was Sanguinius killing one of his sons who succumbed to the Red Thirst, I believe it's from the novel, "Fear to Tread".
I think there is a note of something not really recognised here that the Chaplain seemingly well knew the sergeant had fallen to the rage and that his abandonment of their mortal allies wasn't truly to save a fellow marine's life but to protect his honour and hide the butchery of loyal Imperials from the record. It's something parts of the community can often mask or overlook because they enjoy their cool heroes but I like that some of these series are including more of these aspects. That the Imperial forces are often cruel beyond necessity and it is so common for even their most 'noblest' of members to focus on selfish personal goals or those of an order over the protection of the innocent, the duties they are charged with and even the very survival of the Imperium. From the sacrificing of other astartes chapters to satisfy battle calculations by the Iron Hands to the abandonment of entire campaigns to chase the Fallen by the Dark Angels, it is a faction rife with interesting flaws that should be focussed on. There's a sense that Chaos is so wholly corrupting, and that is why there are so many rebellions but the more interesting truth to me is that Imperial life is so unendingly poor that any citizen would rightfully take the first opportunity offered to seek better conditions. I do really miss that about the writing as there has been a trend to make the Imperium more wholly heroic.
They protect more than the honor of one Space Marine, by disposing of the mad Angel, they protect the honor of the Primarch, Chapter and all successor chapters, which would get a bad name if one of their members is found to act as an uncontrolled butcher of allies.
Wow we rarely see the Plague of Unbelief zombies 9:32 also we get to see promethium, and it looks like Oil which is interesting. It’s also super cool to see how the Chaplain tempers the tactical, and as he is injured he can’t keep up, thus the rage nearly takes over 19:30
The animation of this is a lot more smooth and crisp, and a lot less stiff and clunky. I know it's difficult to accurately depict how quick and smooth an astartes can move, but this definitely got closer. If I had one criticism of this, it's they don't get right how a space marine charges. Instead of running like how you or I would to charge charge someone, they do an odd skip-push, where they push down on the ground with one leg to propel themselves forward, then do so with the other leg, which allows them to quickly and forcefully cover a lot of ground to get to their target, similar to how a sprinter comes out of the starting blocks.
You hit the nail on the head bro it’s all budget restraints they aren’t spending as much as they should on their properties… I for one am extremely happy for anything That GW puts out, there’s so little 40k content that I’d watch anything ! And be thankful that it came out! But don’t worry guys if the 40k project on Amazon prime pops off , there will be tons and tons more 40k shows & content. It’s not broken through the mainstream yet. I am wishing big but I’m hoping 40k gets it’s own universe on Amazon like , GoT , Marvel , DC, etc… the story is there the content is there and there’s 30+ years of it. They just can’t blow it…
Astartes will always fascinate me, while their mutilated psyches do struggle to comprehend the madness around them it also shields them in a way with their clarity of purpose. They are monstrous teenage creatures living and dying n the most hardcore power fantasies.
THIS WAS F@CKING AMAZING!!! SO MANY FREAKING AWESOME THINGS!!! I think my favorite part was seeing Chaplain Rafael again, he was just one of my favorite characters from the other Blood Angels series, aside from Ancaeus and Kazarion. I think the other thing I loved the most was seeing their faces. Kazarion does look really young here and it makes me wonder if Orpheo is still a Sergeant or Lieutenant. I remember seeing Kazarions face when he entered the chapel before leaving to serve with the death watch and how he didn’t have any scars on his face but seeing this is just amazing and it was awesome to see Rafaels face too. It honestly makes me wonder how long Kazarion has been a Space Marine. I’m hoping we get to see more episodes like this and other characters like Tiro and Ancaeus. Freaking amazing job man!! This made my day💯
Woo! Another banger, thank you!!! The best Warhammer break down man on TH-cam! Love it everytime. Also kinda sad Raphael's eyes were not lit red. Takes away from his intimidating stare.
I hate that I was wrong about Dante. I had hoped and said I didn't think he would cross the Rubicon. But seeing the status of the Blood Angels, I can see why.
Interesting to think about how power armor changes infantry combat. If you're in a suit of it, you are as much a walking tank as an infantryman. So here they are doing a break contact drill not unlike what real world infantry might execute in this situation, but an equally viable option would have been to stay in a line and just slowly move rearwards while shooting, because their armor can probably take the hits while putting out a higher volume of fire at the same time
Wow this looks interesting. The Angels of Death team (Were they the ones that made helsreach before the buyout?) have really been moving in a good direction. Season 1 of Angels of Death was alright, but it felt rushed and was a bit disappointing, Then Angles of Death: origin came out and it was the first animation I saw that made me go "yeah, this is what I was hoping for". This looks like an improvement on that again.
I’ve been a fan of Warhammer, both types, since I was a 17 year old college freshman, and was introduced to the Warhammer 40k universe by Space Hulk, the board game (I got the computer version when it came out, a bit later). From there, my friends and I got into the world of miniature wargaming, and had some truly epic battles, with improvised terrain features, sometimes on a pool table, other times a large dining room table, and for the largest battles, on the carpeted floors, in the largest rooms we had access to. Even now, at 51, I still look back at those days as some of the best times my friends and I ever had. I am so happy to see that the game has grown in popularity, and that it has successfully made the transition to animation, and soon, with Henry Cavill, live action. He is one of us, and I have no doubt that he will do everything possible to stay true to the source material. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for making these videos. Through your efforts, a whole new generation, that might have been daunted by the sheer volume of information, gets an easy to understand, enjoyable, but still educational, introduction to the 40k universe, without missing any of the finer points. Keep up the great work, and I’ll see you in the next video.
I just wish they would stop with the awful camera shake, wobble, sway, and spin. The lens effects are too much and the lighting is still too dark. Watching it actually makes me feel a bit nauseous, lol maybe that was intended? 😅
I have haphazardly, and out of order, watched this series, so forgive me if there is lore I’m missing this comment… The way I look at the deathwatch lore… in addition to insane rage-ers, individuals who cannot play as a team, etc, they also recruit dudes who are just SO BADASS that they just plainly don’t belong on a battlefield of masses and are specifically tailored to carry out suicidal, immense skill-relying, missions… you are a badass. To then survive all that AND return to your original chapter (something I think that never happens), in some way or another, is next level, named character badassery 🤟🤟😎
This feels and looks more like a successor to Helsreach than Astartes. Similar looking animation style to it, similar pacing and story telling style, voice actors also feel similar, but that last one might be a stretch.
Angels of Death has some good story and the voice acting is on point. But the animation is all over the place, sometimes beautiful and awe inspiring and other times a brown/black blotchy mess.
@@dj11o9er No, advancing to contact and moving towards your objective are two different things, when we say advance to contact, it means you are going to use fire and movement to close with and destroy said contact
@@dj11o9er unless youre objective is the enemy, like example when you are conducting a section attack towarda an enemy op, because you would never use a section to attack anything larger then a single two man trench, then in that instant you can say that you are advancing onto an objective, and that is when you use bounding as the americans call it or pepper potting as the canadians and british call it
Oh absolutely! When they provide the money, workforce and time to an animation to make animation improvement within a decent timeframe ..they are to be commended .... It shows an improvement somewhere and hopefully that improvement encourages more viewership and money for the animators .... However we have to remember how they took an Astartes sequel away because of this and stunted community freedoms ... Instead of subscribing to a service I would rather be able to purchase seperate collections or individual videos ... Just to have them in my collection..sent on memory sticks that increase in price dependant on the GB required ..able to watch them whenever ...forever ...
the animation on these are great and improving, and story wise they hold up BUT, lets not pretend, Astartes animation is lightyears beyond this, and what makes it crazy is there's a whole ass team at GW making this, Astartes was a one man army
To be fair, a lot of the WH+ animations are by guys who were considered some of the best for the fan animations; including the guy who made astartes but a lot of their stuff had dropped in quality when they joined so maybe something is happening behind the scenes like other people are saying
I wish they did more to disringiush fighting between chaos space marines vs everyone else. They just stand out of cover, firing their weapons and getting the same amount of suppressive fire as they do any other faction. It feels SW’s stormtrooper-ish. Imagine if when they faced their evil counterpart space marine they were more intensely in cover, had to move much more, and imagine a scene where a BA poked his head out and was just savagely suppressed fire by his evil, equally skilled+demon energy counterparts!! Just some sort of different ranges engagement to visually demonstrate that these are effing space marine ex-brothers. You just run from cover-to-cover regularly? Well you better smoke before moving cuz these guys got your aim and were trained like you (somewhat) mother fu#*er!!!!
@@Counterpoints Wilco! I'm having a little remorse for not picking this up back when I saw it for PS3 in my chair force days. So glad I kept my PS3 though 😄
Everyone seems to forget the books say that space marine power armor makes a ton of noise, even likened to that of a tank, witb whirling, growling, and engine humming.
And plenty of 40k media showcases the noise made. Of course its mostly the footsteps as seen in bits like 40k Space Marine and Astartes, but its still noise made by the armor
@@dj11o9er Never once seen anything where they made remotely any noise and if they do it's nothing like the books described or what i said. There's never been any cinematic or even in astartes that are critically acclaimed where they make anything close to "engine growling" or "machine whirling" as described by the books.
Imagine if sanguineus killed Horus and actually hurt the Emperor at the herasy due to falling to the black rage to kill Horus but propaganda changed and warped the story over 10 000 years
How would it ruin it ? Do you think it’s going to go down the way everyone thinks ? No Dan Avnet said you will see the end from a few perspectives so just like how propaganda works it most likely won’t go down the way everyone thinks . And personally I hope it does . They all loved sanguineus so it would make sense them wanting to save Sanguiniuses reputation and use him as a beacon a sign for good in the universe. I highly doubt it’s going to be sanguineus broke the armour of Horus then sanguineus dies then the E comes in then sees he’s not able to turn him back then vaporises his soul . Yeah I know and understand a lot of people have a close relationship to this version of events . I think it’s more than likely we’re getting new lore as after this point the scowering books will be next but after that point the whole imperium changed . I only think it’s not going down the way we have been told as we know about the imperium and the eclesearchy they lie and put out certain narratives . I think the Sanguinius heel turn is a likely if not highly plausible if not then another version of events .
@@ZiGGi03 Dude. We are talking about events that never happened, about work of fiction. And here we have two narratives: one is what we know and love, because it's a culmination of apocalyptic struggle and reminds us on myths; another is worthless on its own, because all it does is ruining the first narrative to "sUbVeRt eXpEcTaTiOnS". It lacks climax. It lacks emotional component. It takes away from struggle. It trashes at least one character with established qualities. Now, I don't say Abnett or someone else cannot go this route, but any author who would, shouldn't be allowed to tread near Warhammer. Just a question: did you enjoy the new Star Wars trilogy from Disney?
Comments for the comment gods! I'm new to WH40K, so my understanding is preliminary, but I loved seeing the Astartes in a semi-realistic medium. For what little I know about the Blood Angels, you could sense the disillusionment of the younger Astarte when he acknowledged the reality. Very cool and I can't wait to see & learn more about this series!
Despite finding the plague marines extremely weak in this animation, I loved the episode. But in the 10th edition of W40k the Death Guard died... It makes sense
I love listening to lore on 40k. I believe I heard somewhere that nurgle and related forces have kinda a big brother mentality when it comes to defending their weaker forces and exacting retribution for what they perceive as cruelty after all they are bringing nothing but 'gifts'. I think the starting scene when the space marine with the skull helm crushes the fly could be seen both as a rejection of the blessings of pestilence and blatant provocation. It was a really great scene.
I'm still pretty new to the whole W40k verse nor do I have any interest in the tabletop game, but ever since diving into the lore the Blood Angels have always been my favorite chapter knowing that their primarch turned them around from the dark direction they were heading and onto one that has learn about the worlds around of them.
I'm a big death guard fan and I agree a lot, even as (forced) worshippers of the plague god; it doesn't feel like it makes sense for them to have so many mutations as they are always at their best when they have very little in fact, though there are certain situations where it does make sense at least for me. Like the not death guard who was allowed to join them and if I recall he has a arm or weapon that's sorta like a tentacle

Note, one of the oldest non warp tainted Astartes was a Salamander. "Modern" Salamanders found him on a Horus Heresy era ship guarding it's contents. He died shortly after discovery from extreme old age.
I liked the video in overall. But a few questions/thoughts: 1. Chaplin using bolt pistol on bridge - waste of ammo at the distance. 2. The stomping/hydrolic sounds - there are too many times in the lore discussing marines stealthy movements. I have always imagined the space marine use of the armor to be silent and fluid, not stompy and loud. Now Thunder Warriors I would expect their armor to be more stompy and loud.

ON POINT!
Yeah but now we can pay GW even more money, isn't that great?
yeah Boylan (Angels of death director) says he thinks of space marines as walking slow moving tanks - which is contrary to lore of space marines - maybe to eldar but to everyone else they aew fast and swift - like in astartes

Bro you know the guy that did astartes works for games workshop now right? He’s heading up some of their productions
True

Yes, I’m the Angels of Death series climax this happens when a Marine gets taken by the black rage
Kizzy? Knurghts? Talk like a fckin normal person

Death Company and the Furioso Dreadnought are what made the BA my favorite chapter.
Learning about their culture and Dante further cemented it
I absolutely agree. I started with the Blood Angels and Death Companies 30 years ago also.

@@Madashell1200 I just realized I mistyped. If THEY are greedy enough***
Same! Thats the first thing i noticed too, animations was very polished and intricately detailed and movements of the marines were smooth and can i say natural like
Honor sometimes is a demand, to fight what is happening. Because are all the loyalist honored, different from one who has been dishonored.
I think Games Workshop feels they're on the brink of getting big, so good on them for improving their animation.
WH40K is getting more and more popular as the days go by.
Its one henry caville away from going mainstream
It's succeeding because it stayed true to itself and its fans instead of trying to change "for modern audiences".
Astartes is the best piece of sci-fi/Fantasy I’ve seen, period. It’s peerless. I’m very open and would love to know what else is out there, but seriously can’t think of anything in the same league.
Kazaryon against the death guard in the hand to hand was a epic scene! Really dope
I'm so glad they gave up the white black and red color pallette. It was literally an eyesore to watch. Muted colors with the reds accenuated is a MUCH better sight to look at.
Also gives the scene more contrast.
I agree but it is still off putting for me.
The gorgeous animation and quality voice acting made that an absolute treat to watch.
From a tactical point of view… the fire and move is on point!! They broke right perfectly with a mag change.
I feel like the audio for the chainswords and bolters could use a little work. The chainswords sounded more like a slow rotary saw or a steel chain being pulled, and the bolters could use more punch. Not quite up to astartes but nice to see they're giving the animators a budget now
This is all I ever wanted and more. I think this is peak 40k, they really captured that first born era vibe. I just cant believe how thankful I am.
You getting into 40k is still one of my favorite plot twists of all time. I personally don't play but LOVE the lore of it so much.
i love the lore accurate detail of parry with the pauldron . astartes are trained to deflect projectiles with their paudron/shoulder guard
All that said, its good to see SMs "fighting smart."

@@amirsafwan8491 Which is why I think the successive bounding they did works in my head canon. Also, I think its hard to drop to prone in that armor...
It was slowed down 5 times, so we can see what's happening. Space Marines move like a race car. Because their power armor is a race car.
It really saddens me that artists don't seem to grasp the concept of poxwalkers. Poxwalkers are not zombies. They don't suffer in death. They are very much alive and they are enjoying it. They love all the gifts of Nurgle and they always smile
HERETIC!!!! PURGE THE UNCLEAN!!!!
A virus that looked like " what if Slaanesh takes Nurgle's class lesson how to cultivate bacteria/virus."
Generally. To blood angels they looked like zombies crawling in sewers, to pox walkers they may have seen themselves as hippies on high drugs af, embracing Nurgle's sweat shower in a spa.

Can I just say that I love the use of the feather. It’s really fits with the black rage.
You're thinking of the Red Thirst, the Black Rage became a thing after Horus slew Sanguinius.
The story you're thinking of was Sanguinius killing one of his sons who succumbed to the Red Thirst, I believe it's from the novel, "Fear to Tread".
you're speaking of the Red Thirst as pointing by others, black rage came much later, when the Primarch was slain.
That fire an maneuver on the bridge is crisp,
Wow we rarely see the Plague of Unbelief zombies 9:32
also we get to see promethium, and it looks like Oil which is interesting. It’s also super cool to see how the Chaplain tempers the tactical, and as he is injured he can’t keep up, thus the rage nearly takes over 19:30
Is it me or does rafeal look even more cooler without a helmet and it shows how far he's been in the blood angels
8:01 A right peel! I love the fact the animator has incorporated infantry skills
You hit the nail on the head bro it’s all budget restraints they aren’t spending as much as they should on their properties…
I for one am extremely happy for anything That GW puts out, there’s so little 40k content that I’d watch anything !
This made my day💯
This really makes sense, the astertes work is really doing good
If I recall correctly, the creator of Astartes was hired by GW and is now working on all of their new animations and creating Astartes 2.
Great vid. Richard Boylan is killing it lately with these Angels of Death eps.
Interesting to think about how power armor changes infantry combat. If you're in a suit of it, you are as much a walking tank as an infantryman. So here they are doing a break contact drill not unlike what real world infantry might execute in this situation, but an equally viable option would have been to stay in a line and just slowly move rearwards while shooting, because their armor can probably take the hits while putting out a higher volume of fire at the same time
Hope Wh+ produce more stuffs like this, this was pure quality.
I can't take my chapter brother anywhere

Wow this looks interesting. The Angels of Death team (Were they the ones that made helsreach before the buyout?) have really been moving in a good direction. Season 1 of Angels of Death was alright, but it felt rushed and was a bit disappointing, Then Angles of Death: origin came out and it was the first animation I saw that made me go "yeah, this is what I was hoping for". This looks like an improvement on that again.
I think so.

This video revitalized my love for my space marine collection

I have haphazardly, and out of order, watched this series, so forgive me if there is lore I’m missing this comment…
The way I look at the deathwatch lore… in addition to insane rage-ers, individuals who cannot play as a team, etc, they also recruit dudes who are just SO BADASS that they just plainly don’t belong on a battlefield of masses and are specifically tailored to carry out suicidal, immense skill-relying, missions… you are a badass. To then survive all that AND return to your original chapter (something I think that never happens), in some way or another, is next level, named character badassery 🤟🤟😎
Very based assessment
This feels and looks more like a successor to Helsreach than Astartes. Similar looking animation style to it, similar pacing and story telling style, voice actors also feel similar, but that last one might be a stretch.
Someone else said it may be the same team
Yeah, I think it's made by the same people

Imagine if sanguineus killed Horus and actually hurt the Emperor at the herasy due to falling to the black rage to kill Horus but propaganda changed and warped the story over 10 000 years
No need to ruin an epic narrative for such a cheap postmodernist twist

Dude.
Those animations are the good ones i want to see when i think of Warhammer40k. I have no idea how much they cost to make, but hell are they worth it.
That into clip at the start is awesome.
Good stuff. I see the extra effort.
The best about the Death Guard marines was the fact that they decided to not cover them up in mouths & tentacles like the miniatures. Less is more.
Awesome stuff. Loving this channel more & more. Appreciate your breakdowns.
Right on. I was really impressed by the quality improvement when I 1st watched this ep on Warhammer Plus
So the algorithm hasn't offered me much of you recently, but glad to be back.
Damn dude you've got some arms there 👀 I will be checking out magic spoon - went of cereal a decade ago when I realized the sugar-fest I was eating; but it also brought a simple routine and routine is what we all need.
It is clear that you filter your sponsors. Glad you gave your boy his first acting roll too 😁
Note, one of the oldest non warp tainted Astartes was a Salamander.
"Modern" Salamanders found him on a Horus Heresy era ship guarding it's contents.
He died shortly after discovery from extreme old age.
3:16 is the start
Great review as always!! congratulations for your new sponsors!!... keep the good job on, this channel is great !!

I liked the video in overall. But a few questions/thoughts:
Well said. The improvement is noticeable and everyone involved needs a attaboy!
