Sienna Miller & Premiere Dresses: Gucci, Dior, Oscar de la Renta | Hello Fashion | Kate Young

  • On this week’s episode I talk about premiere dresses and go into my process for choosing them. Because premieres happen year-round, I like to use dresses from the runway. The minute I see gowns that I think could work, I start reserving them. At a runway show, I might even take a picture, immediately text it to the designer, and write, “Hold this for me.” I usually know which clients are going to have movies coming out around six months in advance, so I’ll be thinking, Oh, I need to find premiere dresses for X, Y, Z.
I also highlight a few of the standout pieces from over the years: a pale-blue tulle, yellow-embroidered spring 2017 Gucci dress worn by Sienna Miller to the premiere of “Live By Night” in London; a red satin Dior dress worn by Selena Gomez to the “Rudderless” premiere in Los Angeles; a black fall 2019 Dior couture collection dress worn by Dakota Johnson to premier of “The Friend” in Toronto; and an orange fall 2019 Oscar de la Renta dress worn by Margot Robbie to the “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” premiere in London. In addition, I speak with Sienna about that Gucci dress and with Oscar de la Renta creative director Fernando Garcia about his inspiration.

It’s inspiring to see how dedicated Kate is and the depth of her knowledge. I think I love her and her work so much because she cares so deeply. In a world of speed and disposable ideas, her masterful, artisan approach to styling is unaffected and so clearly for “the love of the game” as they say. This content is the antidote to self-indulgent and fleeting pop culture. It’s high-brow pop culture, without pretense! I so appreciate the ability to receive this information on TH-cam. Thank you, Kate and team ✨👏

Now I have a new born baby it only took me 7 attempts to finish this video but I finally have! Love these dresses so much and amazing to learn why they work so well. The level of detail. I would love to try a couture gown on one day. My friend is amazing at sewing and she took it up professionally 10 years ago, and is getting near this level, but still has a long way to go. I can't believe how hard couture is. But it's so nice to just learn to fully appreciate it, and to get an insight into how the industry works too. I've been hoping Kate would do a session on what normal people can wear, but now I don't think we need that. She's making me appreciate how small details can make all the difference- (why you want the Ganni dress so much more then the top shop dress even though they are 'almost' exactly the same & the Ganni is 10 X more expensive). She's teaching me to respect that it's in the detail, and to respect the feeling I get when I can tell something is super special.
So, so inspiring. What a blessing it is that you've begun this channel. And also, I notice iconic actresses Margot and Dakota's dresses are both PERFECT FOR BREAST FEEDING! WOOP!

That Dakota Johnson dress is one of my favourite red carpet looks of hers of all time. I remember seeing her in the TIFF footage and screaming about how much I loved it!

Love this Kate, like Andre Leon Talley would say: "You did your homework". I would love to see a video of the Cannes Festival you did with Selena Gomez! That Vuitton and Red Lipstick went together like best friends!

this was so incredibly interesting and the dresses are to die for!!
I fell in love with the black dress when I saw Dakota wear it but I never realised just how spectacular that design really is!
Also I can't stop thinking about how awesome it must feel to wear that beautiful Gucci dress💙

I do like the idea of home grown designers been promoted. Margo Robbie looks great. I could not help think Farah Faucett and the 70s, with Margo.

For another video, it would be interesting to know what the differences are when working with an established brand versus a fresh talent, and the impact a stylist has on making and keeping brands relevant. Also, how much of a person’s style is influenced by their stylist? Like do you put your stamp on their looks or are you open to working with vastly different aesthetics?
