Another great video Justin! Those stinger hooks are unbelievable! Thanks again for taking me fishing today. A bad day fishing beats a good day at work anytime! Keep the good stuff coming.
@@shaneziegler2555 I'm from GA originally now live in SC. All my kin people are in NY. Grandmother and Grandfather came from Germany and Czech Republic to NY My dad ended up in GA for work.
I love that you are still learning about your target species! I definitely learned something new and look forward to trying on my next cat fishing trip. Best regards from eastern Oregon 🇺🇸
Justin I just want you to know you were right. I finally got around to ordering a bidet and it is a life changer. Why didn't I think of this during the great toilet paper shortage of 2020?
Pretty new to your channel, but as a towboater myself,I will say that we greatly appreciate rec.boaters and fisherman moving out of the channel, it makes us all safer. And don't be afraid to give a little toot on ur horn or a friendly wave when you guys see us out on deck,it makes our day
The flathead are turned on rite now. I went to the Ohio River this morning and thumped em on cut creek chubbs and nightcrawler. Caught 9, biggest was 33lbs. I had back to back clickers on fire. They bit in 2s all morning. Even caught a fat channel cat, 9lbs and a drum that weighed rite at 12lbs. One of the best mornings I've had on the river. Love it so much!!!
Stinger hooks work great for short hitting fish when they hit a bait that's big and it's too big for their mouth they've already sucked the stingerhook into their mouth because it's so light and you will hook them you'll hook more fish with the stingerhut your friend really likes you for sharing that technique with you
That stinger fly has done you a lot of good from the several videos I've seen you make. I might have to tie some of those up and give them a shot. Great video.
Mayfly larva is around 4-6inches and when threaded hooked puts off an oily scent that of cut bait and wounded perch. Unfortunately they aren’t sold in stores cause it’s so hard to get them but any river or wide creek just setup a saine net 30’ long and go up stream and just start flipping rocks and do that for about an hour then carefully flip and fold the saine net til your on land. They are there will be about 2-3 dozen. It’s the greatest catfish bait I have ever used. Most people have never heard of them but they are a long white larva that is attached to the underneath of rocks. Like a butterfly larva which might actually work just as well. Any way that is why your white fly is working you have an artificial with oily cut baits around and the catfish think it’s a mayfly larva floating down river.
justin you should try to fish with spro bucktail jigs from 1/4 to 1 oz depending on your depth. use as light as you can while being able to stay in the zone you wanna be in. medium heavy 7 ' spinning rod 20 lb test braided line to 40 lb test leader line. no bait needed. blade baits fished vertically work great too.
I almost commented a couple videos ago that these Flys weren't pulling their weight and they seemed to be pointless having on the rig. And then this video has now made me a believer. Unreal the number of fish on the fly and not the bait
The stinger hook strikes again some Cool looking flathead's some blues the stinger hook was slaying the catfish today the stinger hook was pretty reliable all hail the stinger and a perfect score of a flathead nice😀
Justin, the fish on the fly doesn't surprise me at all. The catfish is an apex predator, but it also takes the easy meal. The crappie or cut bait gets the attention to get the fish to your bait, then that fly looks like a wounded shad, easy meal. They are getting hooked on the J hook because they think they are hitting a live shad. Great pattern!
Another great video , Justin next time you are fishing with Daniel do me a favor gets some close up shots of Daniels trolling motor set up . I have the same Yak I want to see how he has it mounted Thanks !
He isn’t happy with how he has it mounted so you probably don’t want to copy his setup until he gets it dialed in. His kayak runs about 0.5mph slower than mine and it should be running about 0.5-1mph faster
Holy crap! Looks like your Kayak is going around 20mph! IMO I would run the fly at least 4" inches lower from the live or cut bait than where it is now. I run these for Stripers in the Santee Cooper lakes. When the Stripers are schooling I run a Bucktail and barracuda spoon or Hopkins spoon. Been working since the 70s when I was a kid with my Dad. ;D Last but no least. It is crazy how one day they are on fire and gone the next. Has happened to me with every species of fish I have target over the years. If we can figure out why we would be rich.
I'm also along with your thinking that you would pick up stipers on the stinger flies. They are a lot like the buckhead jigs I fish for hybrid and stripers behind the dam in GA with.
I seen someone use a stinger fly under cut...think I'mma try it. Watcha think. Your mic works better than you know...ole Daniel with that 15" joke. Just now getting to watch it...been busy.. Great vid man. FYI....she loves it...been all over the property. Almost forgot to mention .29 3/4... Lmfao 😆
Enjoyed the video as always. I'm impressed that you caught that many fish on the fly rig. You and your buddy should try selling them on your channel. I would be interested in purchasing a couple. Thanks again for a great video.
I’ve been catching a lot of catfish on swimbaits, crankbaits and jigs it’s just weird this year and they barely touch the cut bait, fishing in general been weird this year I’ve caught acouple snakeheads on cut bait instead of lures or live bait.
I will Let you know that In Iowa on the Scott St Bridge We get 30 to 50 lb Flat Heads to hit a 4 inch white curly tail casting into the tunnels on the dam and others cast 5 inch Green Shad jigging in the river do the same. It could be that Catfish suck hard and when the live fish tries to get out the was they get the fly instead and when you set the hook you pull the fish out his mouth and the stinger gets set. Just a thought.
I've caught several flatheads while flipping trees with a jig but it's not like it happens all the time... This was kind of crazy I'm assuming you done ordered a couple dozen of them things after this... LOL Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
You definitely need to try the flies again with one rod with just a fly, no bait. I wonder if the scent of the bait is attracting the fish but the color and flash of the fly is getting their attention once they’re close enough to see it. Great video for sure.
That's kinda what I believe. I make doll flies and have caught every species of fish but the scent could definitely be what's bringing them to notice it
Something just popped into mind .....the stinger fly might just be the extra gold on the ticket for the slot tournaments 💡💡🧠🤯great video Justin always digging the views 🇺🇸💪🏻💯🤜🏻🤛🏻🐟
The Asian carp fry hatched a couple weeks ago and they’re about the same color as that fly and about the same length where I’m at the skipjack are going crazy over them right now
Loving these videos Justin. Those stinger flies are just getting hit first as they're going for the bait I think. They're smelling that bait and feeling that struggling fish but getting the fly as they go for it. I have some flies similar to this that I got from Holly in the gift box. I'm going to have to try one and see if it works from the bank as well. Great video as always, have a blessed day Justin.
The fly is interesting. You are fishing in current. We’re the fish following the scent and snapping the first thing they came to? The fly would have been down stream of the actual bait. Good video. Thanks for sharing your day!
Try rigging the fly above the bait. It could be that the fish are coming at the bait from below and just happen to inhale the fly as they're going for the bait
You might consider offering those bucktail (?) dressed stinger hooks for sale on your site. I would be interested in buying them. If I weren't so lazy, I could make my own.
Dang might just need to tie on two flies. But I also agree with another comment on here it could be the scent of the cut bait getting them to the fly to notice it
That was awesome what was that five cat's that you caught on the fly? Lol that was crazy but Dewey knows what he is talking about lol. Sir I have been enjoying how you have been mixing it up this year with the ultralight fishing to the carp fishing keep the awesome videos coming. Well till next's trip GodBless and Tight Lines.
Justin I'm curious the other day was a weather front fixing to come through the area cause ninty percent of the time they'll bite like hell right before it starts raining cause of the barometric pressure will be high and it'll make them eat but if it's going to be clear weather good luck on getting them to eat then too now
Awesome! Do you think having a fly behind my bait while dragging baits would be effective? I’m sure it couldn’t hurt but not sure if suspending baits make the presentation different? Great videos your one of my favorite guys to watch!
@@KayakCatfish I might try putting a peg float between the cut bait and the fly to keep it suspended. So dragging weight, float, cut bait, float then fly! 🤷🏼♂️ thats a lot of moving parts for some dang catfish.!
I was fishing fletchers cove for shad run with l small spoons and caught a 12-14lb blue cat. Only one all day, go figure, they love this little opportunity baits

Since flatheads eat with a vortex sucking everything in and they eat from below the bait, it may have been unintentional that he ate the stinger. 5:20
