  • In this episode, I will show you how to make pink grapefruit, glycerin soap with amazing swirls. Melt and pour soap is excellent for those interested in making soap without lye. When you make this soap please tag your creations with #acornswirl so we can find you.
    You will need:
    A loaf mold
    Enough melt and pour soap to fill the mold
    Fragrance oil plus droppers for measuring
    3 different colorants, I used pink, orange and white
    spray bottle with rubbing alcohol
    2-3 Pyrex containers for melting your glycerin soap
    Directions for swirly, melt and pour, glycerin soap:
    1. Measure the soap to fit the capacity of your loaf mold.
    2. Melt the glycerin soap in the microwave in 20-30 second intervals.
    3. Scent your soap according to manufacturer instructions.
    4. Split the soap batch into 3 equal portions.
    5. Color your first color and cover the other two containers with plastic wrap to avoid a skin forming on the surface.
    6. Pour your first layer of M and P soap, spray the top with rubbing alcohol to get rid of the bubbles, and set a timer for 15 minutes.
    7. Use this time to mix your other two colors and recover with the plastic wrap.
    8. Check your soap temp this time and make sure it is at 120 degrees or below. A higher temp will melt the surface skin which will give you a whole different look. After 15 minutes spray the surface of your soap with the alcohol. Pour your white, or second color. Use a spoon handle to punch down through the soap starting in one corner and zigzagging to the opposite corner. Stop swirling. Make only one pass this time.
    9. Set your timer for 5 minutes.
    10. After 5 minutes, spritz the surface of your soap with the alcohol and pour your next layer. Make sure to pour it over the hardest part of the soap.
    11. Using your spoon, punch it down in one corner of the soap. Make sure you touch the bottom of the soap loaf. Then proceed to zigzag to the next opposing corner.
    12. Spritz with alcohol to remove surface bubbles. Wait at least 3 hours or until your soap is completely cool to unmold.

      Ashley Reed I just posted a simple video I made months ago (Tahitian Vanilla) and just got edited. I have another in the works for beginner CP that will be finished shortly.

    This is such a fun technique! The results are always unique! (Hey, that kind of rhymed!) Well, it deserves some poetry, and so do you. Too bad it isn't good poetry, though!😅 ❤😊❤😊❤😊❤😊❤

    Not many people can pull off swirls in glycerin soaps. Well done and I love the colors! 💖

    Gonna try another Acorn Swirl this weekend. My first didn't turn out so well, layers were too stiff. And I didn't measure out equal amounts of soap for the layers. Will keep you posted :)

      I can’t wait to hear. You may have to reheat your next pour depending on how cool the air is where you are soaping. Just don’t heat it too hot or it will go right through the layer you are trying to pour onto.

      The layers don’t have to be equal, maybe wait less time between layers as well.

    I just found your page here and love it! I notice your videos are older and wonder if your still making videos? Do you have a website that you sell stuff on?

      Hi Glynis! I do make videos, but I have been struggling to get them edited and released. It is a goal though, to keep going. So keep checking back or sign up for notifications. 😃As for the website, I used to sell online years ago and sold overseas as well. However, there were some massive changes to the cost of shipping, so it killed my business and I never recovered. I’m not much of a door to door salesperson. 😬

      @@OakleafandOcotillo thank you for reaching back to me. I have subscribed to receive notices and I look forward to see any upcoming videos you have. I’ve learned how to do my swirl thanks to watching your videos. I can’t wait to see more , I haven’t done the cold process yet so for now it only mp. Thank you!

    Yayyyy, I'm feeling more confident thanks to your videos. Is that what layer glycerin too or goat/shea soap base?

    • @OakleafandOcotillo
      @OakleafandOcotillo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use the glycerin shea/goat milk base with this technique. As long as it’s a glycerin base it will work. I’m so happy this has helped you. Thank you for the feedback!

    Hi great video!! Can you please tell me what temp each layer is before pouring? Thanks

    • @OakleafandOcotillo
      @OakleafandOcotillo  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Matene! The first layer is not so important, but each layer on top of it needs to be at 120 degrees or below. Thanks for pointing out that I did not include that. I will make a note in the notes above.

      I came down here to ask the same thing, thank you for answering. If you want to included Centigrade in your videos as well, 120ºF is about 50ºC.

    Can I add oils to make it more moisturizing? If so when should I do this?

    • @OakleafandOcotillo
      @OakleafandOcotillo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Brendy! I would not add oils to glycerin soap if you want it to lather. Glycerin has natural humectant properties that help your skin stay more hydrated than cold process or other soap. Thanks for the question.

    Great video thx for sharing! Do u scent ur white layer too or no?

    • @OakleafandOcotillo
      @OakleafandOcotillo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. I add the scent (normally) to the entire batch, then add the color. You can do it separately if you prefer. Just make sure to portion it according to the amount of soap in each color, should you choose to separate the batch before adding the fragrance.

    Can I use alcohol 70 to spray bubbles?I can't find alcohol 99

    • @OakleafandOcotillo
      @OakleafandOcotillo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      70 is not strong enough to bind the layers. We are all having this problem now. I’m sorry. I have heard of some people finding 99% medical grade, but I’m not sure where. If I find out, I will let you know.
