@@krystalthesquirrel4973 They were just trying to kill him. It is only by some fluke he retained himself. How he managed to restore himself in the end that... is unclear.
Actually, the real reason, they tried to kill him was because he was the debunking the schemes the employer were under to try and seek a way to prevent them from releasing a toxic gas that he made so that they could exploit it and the evil people running the factory know that by releasing it into the atmosphere so in which case when tons of people get sick by this virus, many innocents would have to fork up enough cash to them since they're the only ones who had possession of the cure for it so basically saying they tried to kill Dr. Caine solely because they wanted to silence him
The concept of this game is freaking great. I could see a new version, still top down and with perhaps an upgrade system. Even make the plot that the good Doc anticipated that the corporation would try again and made a backup of the ooze serum just in the off chance he needed to become the ooze again. The whole fluid mechanic really would look amazing and... I'd take the difficulty down a notch or two. Like, first couple levels are piss easy, but then when we get to the corporation, gotta focus on the puzzle elements lest you get dead REAL quick.
I also figure a mechanic would be to use the punch to "add ooze" to your opponents and when enough is on them, that's when they become goo and you kill them and can add them to you. Spitting does much the same, a bigger glob but it rips a chunk off your ooze body to do it. I'd also add a "corrosive" meter. By activating it, it turns all your goo into the corrosive type and you kill everything by touching it, but it doesn't last forever. Love it! There should also be a level select AND a game save feature too and a map of the stage to where you are, where the hidden DNA are located as well as the hidden test labs(bonus levels). There should also be two endings. Both of them are happy endings. One where you some succeed in somehow exposing the Corporation's exploits to the world and the Director is taken off to jail. The whole plant is decommissioned however you use it's equipment to work on finding a cure. The other ending is after you've collected all the DNA,you install them in to a machine that successfully turns you human again. The evil Director, like the first game,is the one stuck in a lava lamp. And now that you're in charge, you use the entire plant to run more clean and efficient energy and improve the experiments for the betterment of mankind instead of evil. What do you think?

I think it's still amazing. I assume several images were made for the edges, selected based on the surroundings. The fluid could be made of a particle system. The head would be the pivot and various squares move trying to be together around the head, but avoiding overlapping. When attacking, one of the squares becomes another pivot, like another leader, and the others follow it. But I don't know how it was implemented. It's a supposition.

this game spooked me as a kid. whenever that intro played i would run out of the room lmao. i also remember it being hard af! the music kicked ass tho.
Once I got the hang of it, I didnt find the game to be THAT difficult...I think the difficulty comes more from poor design in some spots; for example, its not very clear what can or cant hurt you. It is also very easy to get lost, and it's not very clear where you have to go or what your actions do. I remember flipping switches as a kid and trying to figure out what the hell it did.
It certainly wasn't very clear on what could hurt you and what couldn't unless you eyeballed the protag's reaction during play and took note of sound effects. Thankfully, back in the day it was a lot easier to see what was going on since the screen views were so much smaller and there were limits on how much could spawn (to ensure it could fucking run in the first place). Not to mention there were no maps or anything so wandering around for hours trying to get an idea of where the hell you were was definitely a factor too.
Ahh this brings back so many memories when I was much younger I played it on a Sega Genesis plug and play and the tv was messed up so the ooze guy looked blue and with sonic 2 sonic looked purple and tailed looked more green.

This was the only one that I have found upon today's viewing as of this moment. The fact that this jump exists shows that it's possible that there are more jumps, and that it wasn't my imagination a couple of days ago.

I've figured out the key to success in this game. It's your extending fist. It has a small green blob on the end which is barely visible but this is what you are aiming to hit things. pay close attention to it. To get it to go where you want is the aim but it will only travel in diagonals. So in order to hit things which you are not precisely in line with you must finesse it right at the end to hit the target be it an enemy or post to grab onto. Do a quick little circular motion. Then you will be able to hit target you are not precisely in line with on the 8 axis.
@C L As did I. It came out around the same time Danny Phantom aired on Nickelodeon, so I was quick to notice the similarities between the Danny Phantom theme song and the Toxic Dump theme.
I remember what i've unlocked this game in my Sonic Mega Collection Plus PS2 copy (which i still have). There was a lot of slowdowns and the background color was messed up.
This game always scares me when I played it Mainly cuz I’m a “ZZZZZOOMAH 🧑🏽🦱” So I played this on the ATGames console, and oh boy the first level music always freaked me out, and I thought you were playing as the bad guy (I never watched the opening cutscene so I didn’t know this was kinda like a revenge story) and the death animation also freaked me out! My mom would turn it on sometimes just to mess with me I’m 15 now That was an embarrassing moment in my life
the ooze itself was pretty impressive , especially how it flows about. This game grabbed my attention from the weird box art in the Japanese version, it looks as if it was a temporary cover until they finalize the artwork
I remember seeing it for the first time on show in one of those novelty gadget shops and I was petrified of it. obviously better now but I still get a bit uncomfortable today whenever I see it. :|
I had his on a genesis along with some other games like Sonic Spinball when I was 5 and this definitely scared the shit out of me, now I’m 14 and yeah I do still get a bit uncomfortable while watching this lmao
There used to be this place in my country where parents leave their kids while they go out and shop. I forgot what it was called but my parents would always leave me there and there was always this cabinet there which I played all the time. I even once gotten into a fight with one of the kids there cuz they wanted a turn LMAO
This game was 90s death metal/deathpunk in a nutshell. Think about it- You get turned into a gelatinous monster of toxic slime by a corrupt science corporation, and you must now claim vengeance on them by devouring all that stands as you welcome their flesh and bones into the very biomass they have created.
That does beg a question though if Dr.Cane was going to expose the company then why did he not notice anything wrong in the Gentics Lab where he likely worked in and didn't see any destroyed walls and grounds with a big monster as well unless the company started killing everyone in the lab and destroying everything after the director put him through the toilet.
@@Meta_Productions Good point. I can only offer 3 feasible possibilities: 1: His eyesight was REALLY bad. After all, he did wear glasses. 🤷🏻♂️ 2: He possibly did know something was going on, but was threatened when he tried to dig deeper into the situation. 3: The corporation excelled at burning all evidence of what they were doing. Chances are, none of the personnel knew what was going on behind the scenes except the higher ups. I wish there was more lore to this game, because I'm sure everyone would love it. A remake would be cool.
@@Meta_Productions Yeah definitely. Especially with the technology we have now. Sega could do so much more with it. Same for Comix Zone and Altered Beast.
It’s really fun thinking back on how scared a lot of us were of this game as kids, then growing up and coming back to it. I never got past the first level. I was afraid the Ooze would come get me next 😂😂
I was kinda disappointed that this wasn't in the collection, period. It's not one of my favorites but I kinda enjoy this game back in Sonic Mega Collection (Plus). And it is a decent puzzle game.
Same here. The game is 100% sega so they have no excuse to not include it in any of their collections. If they officialy release the rom, there would be so many people that would buy it
The furthest I ever got in this game was up to Act 2 of Toxic Dump. Today I was hoping to see a full gameplay so I can see more of the story and endings. I'm glad I came across this. =) P.S. Game was creepy, but mostly hard. lol
Such an interesting concept for a game, but at the same time, a concept that wasn’t executed that well. If the game was remade, and the overall mechanics were handled correctly, it could end up being less obscure. The difficulty is also way too high for this game. I love the soundtrack for this game, and how The Ooze himself isn’t a sprite, but is instead comprised of small bits of graphics, essentially giving the character a “graphics engine” of sorts, and adding physics to him. He also does t have a health HUD, because the goo surrounding him *is* the HUD, which I always found really cool. The game was also apparently planned to be a Nomad pack-in game, which is the logical reason why there’s next to no text in the game for directions and such. I’d love to see this game done in a really elaborate hand draw art style, as well, so, when you move around, you would see a trail of ooze behind you. Not ooze that’s a part of your actual character, but just as a nice little attention to detail, to show the fact he’s made of radioactive waste. So, my closing thoughts and opinions are: Great idea, but not so great execution. Definitely needed to be reworked and revised, and made a *lot* less difficult.
I feel bad that Sonic Mega Collection is more well known than Sonic Mega Collection Plus because Gamecube kids never knew the feeling of coming home to boot up the game and then seeing their Sonic Heroes file unlocked Comix Zone and The Ooze. No kid had any idea what they were or what they had to do with Sonic, but they kicked ass.

I first played this on the red sega plug n play. Very interesting game
Mona Genesix so it isn’t just mine
Emulations can cause graphical errors
Yep. Although personally, the error made the title screen a bit cooler.
You were playing the PAL version of the game.
@@ilovehamburgerandsprite2637 Not every emulations my version of The Ooze rom on my PocketGo doesn’t have color messed up bit!
This game always scares me when I played it
Mainly cuz I’m a “ZZZZZOOMAH 🧑🏽🦱”
So I played this on the ATGames console, and oh boy the first level music always freaked me out, and I thought you were playing as the bad guy (I never watched the opening cutscene so I didn’t know this was kinda like a
revenge story) and the death animation also freaked me out!
My mom would turn it on sometimes just to mess with me
I’m 15 now
That was an embarrassing moment in my life
the ooze itself was pretty impressive , especially how it flows about. This game grabbed my attention from the weird box art in the Japanese version, it looks as if it was a temporary cover until they finalize the artwork
I knew Carrion reminded me of something. Good game, i kinda miss it.
00:37 What's Milo from Atlantis doing here?!
When i played for the first time, i thought the same thing.
This game freaked me the fuck out as a kid.
God this game was difficult....
вєηנαмιℓℓιση true I have it as part of ps2 sonic mega collection plus and it's still hard for me.
вєηנαмιℓℓιση truss me I never got around finishing it
my ps2 sonic mega collection plus
it seems like a fever dream, I loved it
Wow, best horror-fiction game on Mega Drive console.
When you open a dangerous egg, but the egg has a monster on it.......... 1:18
Played this game long ago when I rented it from "Zappers" I loved it despite being utterly confused and frustrated by it
This game scared me as a kid. I still feel uncomfortable watching this and Im 20years old now. This was more scary than ah! monsters to me
2023PerfectDark never did scared when I was a kid. but I'm 17
I guess I'm a sick fuck because this game only intensified me having a vore fetish 😂😂😂
@@roland_the_cursor you mistaken with "v"
only game were you get to play as "the Blob"
Carrion. 2020
very underrated though i do agree that it's unfairly difficult at times
There used to be this place in my country where parents leave their kids while they go out and shop. I forgot what it was called but my parents would always leave me there and there was always this cabinet there which I played all the time. I even once gotten into a fight with one of the kids there cuz they wanted a turn LMAO
What scared me was the game over scene as a kid
This game was 90s death metal/deathpunk in a nutshell.
Think about it-
You get turned into a gelatinous monster of toxic slime by a corrupt science corporation, and you must now claim vengeance on them by devouring all that stands as you welcome their flesh and bones into the very biomass they have created.
I can only offer 3 feasible possibilities:
1: His eyesight was REALLY bad. After all, he did wear glasses. 🤷🏻♂️
2: He possibly did know something was going on, but was threatened when he tried to dig deeper into the situation.
3: The corporation excelled at burning all evidence of what they were doing. Chances are, none of the personnel knew what was going on behind the scenes except the higher ups.
I wish there was more lore to this game, because I'm sure everyone would love it.
A remake would be cool.
@@vantablack3831 If they make a remake they can explore more of the lore of the game and expand
@@Meta_Productions Yeah definitely. Especially with the technology we have now. Sega could do so much more with it. Same for Comix Zone and Altered Beast.
@@vantablack3831 I have a great idea I should make a The Ooze discord server!
Ooz is good but i always wonder how it got into sonic mega collection
I wonder what the ooze would be like if it was a movie
I wonder that too
Introducing "The Blob" from 1985
Still a trillion times better than the Action 52 counterpart.
I have been suggesting to the soundtrack
It’s really fun thinking back on how scared a lot of us were of this game as kids, then growing up and coming back to it. I never got past the first level. I was afraid the Ooze would come get me next 😂😂
Fluids physics in a 16 bit game!!
interesting game. For some reason, I am reminded of Fester's Quest. Think its the top down look and the weird factor.
It seems like Dr D Caine has a sense of humour as well
The 90s did "dystopian" just right
I was soo pissed off that this game wasn't included in the Sega Genesis Classics Nintendo Switch edition.
I was kinda disappointed that this wasn't in the collection, period. It's not one of my favorites but I kinda enjoy this game back in Sonic Mega Collection (Plus). And it is a decent puzzle game.
comedyloverism :Join the club but at least we have Comix Zone still they should’ve put this game in as well.
Same here. The game is 100% sega so they have no excuse to not include it in any of their collections. If they officialy release the rom, there would be so many people that would buy it
dnmstarsi that’s how I was introduced to this game and Comix Zone. I love sonic mega collection plus.
dnmstarsi if they made this into a horror movie, it would be an interesting one. An anthropomorphic slime showing us who the true monster really is.
The ooze always makes you lose.
Great childhood memories. Never beat this. I remember it was tough and I loved the music.
The furthest I ever got in this game was up to Act 2 of Toxic Dump.
Today I was hoping to see a full gameplay so I can see more of the story and endings. I'm glad I came across this. =)
So, my closing thoughts and opinions are:
Great idea, but not so great execution.
Definitely needed to be reworked and revised, and made a *lot* less difficult.
Dang i remember this
I feel bad that Sonic Mega Collection is more well known than Sonic Mega Collection Plus because Gamecube kids never knew the feeling of coming home to boot up the game and then seeing their Sonic Heroes file unlocked Comix Zone and The Ooze. No kid had any idea what they were or what they had to do with Sonic, but they kicked ass.
This game scared the shit out of me as a kid
it takes 2 hours to finish this game!?! I don't think I can handle 2 hours+ of map memorization.
ya wtf rite?
2 hours after a life long experience
Does this game at least save your progress or are the developers sadists?
@@mr.4096 I remember having this on the Mega Drive/Genesis, and no you can't save your progress. You have to beat this sucker in one playthrough. Unless you're playing on an emulator.
This is my childhood
Memories Man 😭
Nice concept and back story, reverse horror at its finest
I remember being 7 or 6 playing this and not being able to sleep for days
