    Swann and Stallworth made me fall in love with football when I was an 8 year old in 1976

    These 2 were incredible. Fun fact Noll wanted Stallworth over Swann in the draft, but he was convinced to take Swann because he went to USC and was more popular, vs Stallworth who went to a smaller, more black dominated school, and Bill Nunn had the only film reel on him. (Bill had alot of connections to those smaller black schools, its where we found alot of talent) so Noll was convinced to pass on Stallworth in the first betting that he would still be available later, and he was. I believe we waited until the 4th round to snag John. Another fun fact Stallworth ran a pretty slow 40 time but Nunn realized that the field he ran on (at the smaller school) was not nearly as well kept as USC, so he knew to take Stallworths 40 time with a grain on salt

    Swann and Stallworth anticipated the great wide receiving tandems that came later, Monk-Brown, Rice-Taylor, Irvin-Harper, et al. They were the model of the modern wide receiver tandem. Together they belong in the Hall of Fame.

    Hines Ward and Antonio Brown may have better numbers, and they both are from the 21st century and we tend to think in the present, but Lynn Swann and John Stallworth were some of the greatest contributors to those Steelers Super Bowls besides that great Steel Curtain Defense. They both put up respectable numbers for the era that they played in, and both had their own memorable moments, both in the regular season and in the playoffs. Highly underrated and I'm glad that both of them are in the Hall of Fame.

    Hines carried on this tradition so well and was easily the best blocking WR in football history, bar-none. I think Larry Fitz is up there too - but Hines could still compile 1000 yd seasons and blast holes for The Bus on the edges. Hines really carried on the values and skills of these 2 legends...

    • @paulshanahan135
      @paulshanahan135 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hines would have been a perfect fit with the Steelers of the 70’s. His toughness would have guaranteed it. He carried on that great tradition and imparted it on the WR’s that followed him. I’d love to see him as a coach with the Steelers.

    The people who are saying that Stallworth was better than Swann are so off it's ridiculous and I loved Stallworth. When they played together, John had 3 seasons where he was better. People forget that Swann only played 9 seasons, the last of which was the strike shortened 1982 season. Stallworth played 5 more seasons so of course his numbers appear better. From 1975-1978, Swann was considered the best receiver in football. No one ever said that about John. If Swann isn't a Hall of Famer than neither is Gaye Sayers, Terrell Davis, Earl Campbell or Bob Griese, whose numbers appear smaller than their counterparts. Ask Jerry Rice, Chris Carter, T. O. and Randy Moss if Swann is a Hall of Famer or not.

      No maybe, they're the standard, period. With all due respect to Hines Ward, AB, and Plaxico Burress, this duo along with Franco and Rocky carried Bradshaw until 1978. Until then, he was a strong armed but often inaccurate quarterback who admittedly struggled with his confidence.

    • @ajburrr
      @ajburrr 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@UncleClaudeSportsandThangs I wouldn’t say that Burress is a great receiver, Swann caught way more passes and had more receiving yards and TDs all in time where there were 14 game regular seasons

      Plaxico was just hitting his stride when Big Ben came on the scene. I will admit that his best body of work was with the Giants. Santonio Holmes had a better Steelers career than Burress I'll give you that.
