when two of my dogs were violently fighting and I got injured, I was literally willing to lose my hand or part of my arm to save them from each other. that was my gut response. the only thing I regret, is not looking into how to safely break up a fight when I decided to have a multi-dog household.
Y’all know you can intervene in a fight without injury to yourself? You’d be stupid to risk your own life when there are other options that are safer for you and your dog. The best way is to have the other owner help. You both need to grab the dogs by the hind legs like wheel barrels. And lift them off the ground. It’s the quickest safest method. I’m sure there’s videos here on TH-cam.
@@FukaiKokoro I was alone and had no knowledge of dog fights when my two got into it the first time. Also, if you are lifting a dog off the ground that has a bite hold on another, the flesh the dog has a hold on will tear. There is no guarantee that wheelbarrow will result in the dog letting go. Since the fight with my two dogs, I have done some research and have unfortunately seen many dog fights where wheelbarrow had absolutely zero effect.

Melissa was without question, an amazing protector for her gorgeous pup Hendrix...you can see why he is such a calm, gentle, loving boy and it's because his owner is such a gentle, calm young lady, that is until her pup was attacked and she is so small herself. I went through something similar but a little worse. We had two big great danes trying to kill a smaller great dane and me and my dad fought to protect that small great dane. The small great dane lost her life that day because she had too much emotional and physical trauma that we put her down peacefully at the vet. My father had 36 holes in his hand (bite marks) because he was trying to cover/protect the small great dane. He had to go to the hospital and I only got a single bite (i was pulling the dogs off). My dad has lost most feeling in his right hand where almost all the bite wounds were. I feel horrible knowing that other people had to go through this. Its been almost a year since that incident and it still effects me daily.
These people who take such good care of their pets are heartwarming. I feel so badly for those young cats that will have chronic problems for the rest of their lives. Happy that Hendricks will be ok, he's such a sweet little guy. His poor owner made me cry 😢 Those baby wombats are precious🥰
I can fully unterstand and support Melissa on this! When I was 10, a mad cat had tried to kill my toy poodle who was only 2 month old and not much bigger than a ball of knitting yarn. I almost lost both eyes and my skin was badly slashed from head to waist and arms before my granny could chase the cat away, but in spite of still suffering from some of the wounds and the infection to this day, the one thing that had most hurt was the agony of not knowing if my puppy was alright, as I was so badly injured that I could not feel my hands nor see anything anymore, and so did not know if I was still holding my puppy in safety against my neck/chest covered with my arms, or if some of him was at the mercy of that evil cat. When the doctor rushed to the scene told me, one of my eyes may partially recover but he was afraid that I'd completely lose the other one, i didn't mind that as much as the thought of losing my dog. I'd have done it all over again the very next second, if it had been required and I certainly lived in terror of him being injured by that cat for the rest of my stay at my granny's. That cat had only ever accepted my grand-father and tolerated me, but nobody else. She actually killed her own kittens only two weeks later. I recovered from most and being so tiny, my puppy had been spared any physical injury, but he did suffer psychologically badly. He had terrible nightmares for a few years and if an animal or a human was being even just slightly unfriendly towards me, he would jump in front of them and dare them to attack him, while moving as far away from me as he could, so that I'd not be hurt by them. It took a lot of love to make him feel that I was safe. It did mean though that as he would bite when waken up suddenly from one of those nightmares and he had bitten me once, as I had picked up my pen having fallen into his bed while he was having those and I did not want him to be injured by the pen, it meant that he chose not to sleep near me anymore after that, in the fear it'd hurt me and no matter what, he would refuse to sleep near me. it hurt, but if that was what he needed to feel safe and happy again, then so be it. We were together all the time, our bond was ever so tight, and he'd leave me only to go and get some sleep at night, after I had managed to make him understand that from now on, I was not going to be approaching his bed, if he was sleeping during the day, even if he was in the same room as I was, and that I'd always be hiding inside an armchair next to him but protected from any bites when he wasn't awake enough to know what he was doing. I hope Melissa won't have to go through this too!

That exact thing happened to one of my puppies as soon as we got home from picking him up The dog shook our puppy like he was a toy it was terrifying and our puppy had some puncture wounds on his neck He ended up okay tho and that owner paid for all our expenses
@@harleyandthechicks21 not in my home we had put him down in our front yard because he was a little car sick and the other dog came from a neighboring house
If I was the vet on that phone call I ( 18:44 ) would have said to the human patient in the hospital: Allow me to worry about your dog and you focus on yourself for now. My team and I will do our best for him." I am not in any way saying this vet wasn't caring. Why I bring this up is because of my physical disability. I've been in the hospital a number of times for surgery. The less stress the better. A very strong statement of empathy is helpful :)
It's just like parents of children...you will do anything to protect them...ANYTHING. their safety is more important than yours. I always say if someone or something came at my daughter I would do anything to protect her. I wouldn't care if I got permanent injuries or almost die...or even do die as long as my daughter is safe at the end. Granted it is better for kids to have their parents around so best not to risk ur life too but if damage to you prevents ur kid from losing their life it's beyond worth it. What a brave woman. ❤️
I hope Hendrix doesn’t end up fear reactive because because of the trauma, as a douge de Bordeaux aka a mastiff he could end up just as dangerous as the dog who bit him
I’ve got 8 Dogue de Bordeaux and have had the breed for over a decade...it would take a lot more than that to turn them dangerous. It’s just so the opposite of their personality.
He’s a puppy, so it probably won’t happen if the owners are PROACTIVE and continue socializing and training. If they use the attack as an excuse- then the Dogue might become reactive in the long run. It happens more with adult dogs though that dog and leash reactivity can happen when attacked. DDB’s CAN be dog aggressive though, but it doesn’t always happen
I literally starting tearing up hearing Melissa on the phone. She was still in the hospital and undergone trauma herself and you can hear in her voice that she's probably still in shock. And despite that her concern was all for poor Hendrix. She's seriously amazing - how many people would jump between their puppy and an attacking, large dog?
Thats sadly why people think its funny when chihuahuas are aggressive. They had it in this show before Dr.Chris got bit and was bleeding because of a chihuahua and they all were laughing.
When people doesn't know or hasn't experimented the love that comes to us from them, I'm so sorry that it's something only we know. When we get our animals I would take anything to protect them they are our babies would never think for a moment there isn't anything I mean anything that could take or want to take our bond, this women knows that bond and what her love would mean to the both of them. THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVE AND STRENGTH TO HELP HEND. AND PROTECT HIM . MANY BLESSINGS.

my brother almost lost a finger separating his two dogs - one who attacked, the other, the victim. It was a brutal injury and way longer recovery than I could imagine.
@@heidiquayle5054 Oh my gosh I am so sorry, I honestly wish they would have made a disclaimer or something it's definitely brave and everyone has a fight or flight response in that moment. I've been in the Veterinary Medical field for 10 years. I just wish they would have said yes she's brave but you shouldn't ever put yourself in between them. I hope and pray your brother is okay....💗💗
I think the safest bet is picking up an object and hitting the attacking dog hard. My mom's boyfriend once had to kick a dog in the stomach when it went to bite on my dogs neck. I felt bad for the dog, but I think it was the right move. Hopefully it was okay... Anyway, putting your fingers in an angry dog's mouth is a bad bad idea.
@@aldranzam3456 most of the time hitting, kicking, screaming etc. makes the situation worse, it would be safer for someone to grab each dogs hind legs and lift up and possibly start walking, dogs weren’t made to walk on 2 front legs and when they pull they use their hind legs to get all their force, it throws the dogs off balance and they will most likely let go, now the hard part is keeping the aggressive dog from attacking again
I’m so happy Hendrix and Melissa are both okay! One time I kicked an off leash husky hard enough to send it flying when it grabbed my little dog and started shaking him, but I was too scared to get my body and hands in there. I can’t imagine being brave and selfless enough to get your hands and body in there to save your pup.
My mom protected our first dog from a great dane mix, that tried to attack our dog, so I completely understand Hendricks' mom's reaction. It's terrifying, but your adrenaline is pumping and all you care about is protecting your family. My mom had a huge bruise on her arm, but luckily no other injuries. Our dog was okay, mentally and physically too. I hope Hendricks' mom is doing well. :(
As the owner of an extra large dog, I cant imagine what that mastiff owner did to make his dog so viscious. They definitely shouldn't own a dog though.

Hendricks is sooo sweet sooo proud of his mum that was sooooo brave of her I would have done the same thing for my animal no matter if it is a dog or cat
I don't think there really is a way, especially since it seemed like the other dog didn't have an owner. Removing the dog being attacked and hoping the attacker isn't brave enough to attack a human is, I think, the best course of action. I'm no expert but I've interacted with one specific aggressive dog, and generally I just do what the dog does but try to do it louder. If the dogs being aggressive, it'll get scared off by another aggressive creature who's bigger and louder. Not professional advice though
One time I lived in a bad naborhood and wen I was at school my parents let my dog out of the house for a few to do it's business and wen it was running around the road she was attacked by a group of dogs and my sister saw her at the door step and took her to a family that new a vet we were struggling at the time with money so we thought it would be cheaper so my mom and sister took her to the family that new a vet and the family put her down with no remorse so I made a promise to protect all my animals and other people's so now I have a pitbull mix and a strong will to keep him safe I lost two dogs not going to lose him
So very happy to hear Hendrick's and Mom are on the heal. Such a horrible experience. May I ask, what breed is our mate Hendricks? Reminds me of the fellow from the Turner and Hooch movie, eh? What a total cutie!!
This is why it's so important to socialize your dog, ESPECIALLY bull mastiffs, since they have a bit more agression and dislike of other people and dogs due to their bulldog heritage.
Honestly, massive respect for Hendrick’s mom. What a brave woman, and such a lucky little dog to have such a caring lady looking after him.

God bless Melissa beautiful inside and out....she is an owner every pet deserves
Now THAT is a real dog owner! Melissa risked her life for her baby boy! I am so blown away by her quick thinking so she could save that little man! Good job momma! I'm so glad you are both going to be okay! Much love to both of you, your sister, and all of the vet/hospital staff for taking care of both of you! ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🤍🖤
Thank you Dr. Alex, and all of your staff for taking such great care of little Mr. Hendrix. You guys did such a wonderful job with him!
What a gorgeous fur baby Hendricks is and lucky to have a mummy like he had. Hope they are both alright.
There is something special about Dr. Lewis .... love him
Good to see the poor pup get back to health after a terrifying ordeal. I'd like to know more of the Bull Mastiff attack if it was possible.
That exact thing happened to one of my puppies as soon as we got home from picking him up
The dog shook our puppy like he was a toy it was terrifying and our puppy had some puncture wounds on his neck
He ended up okay tho and that owner paid for all our expenses
Omg I’m so sorry that happened
I’m sorry that happened. Good thing the other dog’s mom paid your expenses.
I’m hella confused. You got a puppy, got home, and then someone else’s dog attacked your puppy in your home..?
@@harleyandthechicks21 not in my home we had put him down in our front yard because he was a little car sick and the other dog came from a neighboring house
@@EckoBean23 oh ok thank you
If I was the vet on that phone call I ( 18:44 ) would have said to the human patient in the hospital: Allow me to worry about your dog and you focus on yourself for now.
Toadie from Its Me or The Dog is a good example of this
I’m 15 and I love watching theses because I want to become a vet and help save animals
The Animals are so beautiful. Thank you for being a great vet and helping all the people.
.
Poor little puppy. He looks so terrified 😭
The Kingston Vet she’s a character and cute when narrating she makes it so interesting to watch big ups to her 👌
Melissa's story just got me choked up. What a lovely and courageous young lady!
Hats of to this laydie who saved her own puppy dog.
People should really take care of their dogs better. Especially larger ones, that can very well cause a lot of damage.
Thats sadly why people think its funny when chihuahuas are aggressive. They had it in this show before Dr.Chris got bit and was bleeding because of a chihuahua and they all were laughing.
@@Ellie-cp2gz Yes exactly, I was once bitten by a tiny fluffy poodle. All dogs need training, though I suppose you can never entirely control them
merry merry christmas to all the vets nurses & staff at bondi vet.
and to everyone else here. Godbless
The intro Makes My day Everytime 😃
When people doesn't know or hasn't experimented the love that comes to us from them, I'm so sorry that it's something only we know. When we get our animals I would take anything to protect them they are our babies would never think for a moment there isn't anything I mean anything that could take or want to take our bond, this women knows that bond and what her love would mean to the both of them. THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOVE AND STRENGTH TO HELP HEND. AND PROTECT HIM . MANY BLESSINGS.
Mad respect for Melissa, jumping into so much danger for her Pup
thank you so much for making this available on youtube, it makes my day
Such a BRAVE BRAVE beautiful young woman!! I have so much respect for her!! Well Done Mellisa
I am so sad I cried a hour that pup is so strong and I am sad about the owner and know I want to see his owner but thank you for helping animals Bondi vet
Gorgeous Doge De Bordeaux puppy
I don't get tearful very often but her "I just want him to be okay," got me.
I really like Dr. Hunt. He’s handsome, fresh blood, really knows what he’s doing,. Also he has really good charisma and seems to care! Yay!💕💕💕❤️💕💕💕
My hands were mauled trying to break up a dog fight.. it hurt so bad .. but it was worth it.. good luck to Melissa and Hendrix and all the animals in the video.. and all the vet personnel…TY for what you do💜
You are all so amazing and loving people.
This is a really important episode but at 5:00 for a moment that bird in the background made me laugh so hard 🤡
this poor dog after seeing this i kind of want to help all animals
It's so frightening to watch dogs fight she's so brave, Please don't ever put yourself in between a dog fight though she could have been killed..... 😭
my brother almost lost a finger separating his two dogs - one who attacked, the other, the victim.
Bernie the dog is a long way from home,. He was a rescue dog from California! 💜💙💞👨❤️👨👨❤️👨🐈🦊🐱🦊
the mauled pup just breaks my heart such a cute scared little baby
thats a brave owner
What a great job. A nanny to dogs!🐈🐱🐩🐕🐱🦊🐈🐕🐩🐺🤗😋
Melissa and her family are all gorgeous and Hendrix is such a lucky pup
My mom protected our first dog from a great dane mix, that tried to attack our dog, so I completely understand Hendricks' mom's reaction. It's terrifying, but your adrenaline is pumping and all you care about is protecting your family. My mom had a huge bruise on her arm, but luckily no other injuries. Our dog was okay, mentally and physically too. I hope Hendricks' mom is doing well. :(
Vaccination day, the only time the vet actually wants to see their patient.
As the owner of an extra large dog, I cant imagine what that mastiff owner did to make his dog so viscious. They definitely shouldn't own a dog though.
Hendriks so lucky to have such a caring owner ❤️
Respect to Melissa!!
It’s been awhile since I’ve been empresses by a tv show but Bondi Vets is a really awesome show!! Love it!!👏🏻👏🏻🥰🥰💗💗

Wow, Melissa's amazing courage, in grappling against the might of a ferocious 80kg Bull Mastiff in order to save her innocent pup, is, nigh on, Super human ! THAT, is the ~~Power, of True, Love !
I will kill that bull mastiff, I am gonna bite him so hard it will start crying like a baby.
Melissa is both brave and beautiful. 😭
Dimitri is so good!! Looking after Bernie!
Little Aspen is such a precious soul. I just want to cuddle her and take her home with me!! Not much danger in that since I live in the US! LOL!
What a gorgeous dog Hendrix is.
I have a dog and when he was A month or two years old
he got a bad disease and he just made it and he is seven turning eight
And I’m so happy he made it like the dogs on here
Aww poor puppy people need to train there dogs more glad the puppy is ok
LOL!!! The cone of shame! I couldn't help but laugh when Dr. Alex used that term for the cone Hendricks had to wear. I'm glad the puppy is doing well!
Melissa - you’re a hero!
Aww all the animals are sooooooooooooooooooo cute
The injured puppy looks like a Dogue De Bordeaoux
correct.
This just shows how much some people love their pets :o
Hendrix’s omg sooo cute & brave I want a dog like him always have since watching turner & hooch hope he grows up to have a happy loving fun life & gets really big & strong & his owner is an hero for saving him from the dog hue attacked him ❤️
I'm not sure if it's the right word, but Hedrick's mom's hijab was so pretty! She's such a brave woman! He's got a great puppy mummy
If you see this Melissa your a dead legend you saved your dogs life ♡♡♡
Wish there were more people like hendricks owner out there that actually care about the life of there pet and would do anything for them onlt caring that their pet doesnt get hurt.
man this made me tear up, on march 15th this year my 5 month old kitten died on the way to the vets...
Hendricks is sooo sweet sooo proud of his mum that was sooooo brave of her I would have done the same thing for my animal no matter if it is a dog or cat
I wish they addressed how to more safely react to a dog fight.
Baby wag at 13:15 broke my heart
