Never thought in my wildest dream that I would go extra mile for North American English. It’s 02:30 a.m. here in Hong Kong, and here I am practicing to pronounce “though” in a proper way.Thank you for the lesson,Christine.
Thank you of your work. I'm from Finland and the word thought is very hard. Especially in situations where there is lot of background noise the non-native English speaker would not hear and would not understand. It's so damn irritating to use 'thought' word and it's so common too so, I then just started using 'I was thinking..' or something else. much easier then.
Hi, yes, they are the same except the first sound of "dough" is /d/ and the first sound of "though" is /ð/ "voiced TH." I talk about TH here: th-cam.com/video/UudCgpMubF0/w-d-xo.html and here is a video for D vs TH sounds: th-cam.com/video/gPVtSnWDdfA/w-d-xo.html
I have videos for the sounds of American English, as well as online courses for accent and pronunciation. Here's an overview video for vowel sounds: th-cam.com/video/4IrnRW1B19I/w-d-xo.html and one for consonant sounds: th-cam.com/video/jK2rSBeAWls/w-d-xo.html. I also have 1:1 training and small group classes. You can view those options on my website: www.speechmodification.com/
It's definitely a tough word. You might find that if you break it up in a new way, or write the sounds in new way, you can get it. Sometimes it's hard to change a word when we have a habit on the word. For "thought," you can try "thaw, thawt" or "ought, thought," for example.
Everytime I need to know how to pronounce certain word I go straight to your videos and I'm never left disappointed. Thank you!!
I'm glad you're finding what you need!
You deserve the huge respect as you are continuously posting videos.
Thank you for breaking down the words by the stress syllables and sounding them out. Your teaching method helps to pronounce new words correctly.
