- The new Denon AVR-A10H ($4,699) made its debut @CEDIA2024 as a slightly scaled-down version of the flagship 15.4CH $6,500 A1H. If you only need 13.4 channels instead of 15.4, you sacrifice very little by choosing the AVR-A10H over its more expensive sibling. The A10H offers 150 watts per channel, four subwoofer outputs, and Dirac Live capability. We discuss with Phil Jones of Masimo how the new AVR-A10H shares much of the DNA of the AVR-A1H and how it's a significant upgrade over the outgoing AVR-X8500H model.

Correction: The Denon AVR-A10H is 13.4CH. I accidentally said 13.2CH in the introduction.

Thanks for coming on to explain these nuances, it’s really insightful and I wish more brands took the time to do it.
Gene told me on the forum "no doubt about it - A1H is the best AVR out at the moment and it's not even close" - been a couple of months now and I'm still very happy with the A1H!
I tested the A1H for 2,5 weeks and its a absolute beast. And the best Denon Receiver i ever tested. I only needed 11 channels ATM so ended up keeping the Marantz Cinema 30 because it sounded more spacious with music and movies in my room. The Denon has a bit more raw power for the speakers but my sub's handle that task so the difference there was no issue because of the sub's without i did prefer the A1H. The A1H is also a bit more direct it depens on what you preffer. Both sound amazing.
The big advantage of the A1H is off course all those channels you can add. But my living room is to small for that.
@@Nelthalin I actually went from a used Denon 6500 to an Anthem MRX 1140 then the A1H
I think I over-hyped the Anthem and undervalued the 6500 as it was picked up 2nd hand - but I heard no difference in the Anthem. I also didn't like the fan noise or the delay in audio after unpausing.
Got the A1H open box for a little bit more than the Anthem (actually after a month it just sold on Ebay last night) and was instantly impressed/convinced to keep it.
The Audyssey One script really helps because the way it optimises a calibration automatically is another big improvement
At least now I have my end game AVR that can last hopefully close to a decade
Nice finally Dirac Live Support, that alone is worth the whole thing
Have you heard of Audyssey one evo?
@@navidmahmood876 ART still end of next year?
Thanks Gene & Phil!!
Does the A10H have the same DAC's as the A1H?
Is it a BEAST!!!!!
L-C-R on AVRs should be 150W full bandwidth at 4 ohms, rest of the channels should be 100Ws. This is an ideal AVR. Across the lineup apply the same principles to 9.2, 13.2 and 15.2 for different tiers. These mass produced AVRs are skimping on the center channel power which is the most used for HT use.
It would be fantastic if they removed 2-4 more channels, so they had a 9 or 11, and then 13 and 15-channel options in their high-end series. Looking around on TH-cam, a lot of people are really not using more than 9 channels. It could also be cool if they made one with 9 channels but with 180W-200W instead of the 150W in their 13 and 15-channel models, while still keeping it in their high-end series. 🙏🏼"
Give me the same thing, and remove all the cost add of the amplification, just give me a KICK ASS processor, CHEAP (no amp / PSU costs)
So glad I bought a Denon AVR-X6500H (made in Japan) before the pandemic for 1400 USD. I only use it for my massive Polk SDA SRS 1.2 speakers that probably drive to 2 ohms. And the 140 watts seems to handle those 100 lb speakers without a hitch. Those speakers are pigs for power. If you buy from Denon make sure they are made in Japan.
Wow 👌🏾 What do you think is sustaining the inflated prices today?
@@brosmile9388 IMO, we are heading into a period of stagflation. Which is when you have higher unemployment or the fear of being laid off. It all means less demand but you still have inflation because the feds keep pumping money (printing) into the system which is the answer to your question. I'm pretty sure the Feds will have a rate cut this week but its too late. It will only get worse. Prices will remain high.
I've got the X8500 and it has an HDMI input in front, something the A1H and the A10H does not have. Why? I don't have easy access to the back. But I guess I could hook up a short extention cable from the back and have it laying ready in front.
@tangobodo977 8k can't be done w front panel HDMI so they likely dropped that feature to have all 8k hdmi inputs.
Yeah in a previous marantz video (cinema 30 I think?) I recall Phil Jones basically saying it’s not worth it. And as someone who has a cinema 40 in a cabinet that’s too heavy to move around easily, an extra 6’ hdmi cable plugged in and coiled on top of the avr is not a big deal.
Yeah the Aux HDMI input in front is nice for REW sweeps from a laptop
Has it been a good receiver for you? I bought one this past week with Crutchfield sale and feel like mine has been really buggy recognizing and switching inputs as well as initiating my Atmos speakers. Considering returning it for the A10H shown here. When it is working, it's a delight.
When will we see a Marantz AV20 ? 😀
What is AV20?
@@bonscott3291 step down from the Marantz AV10. Its a dedicated Audio/Video processor that needs a separate AMP. (for eample the AMP10)
Marantz AV20 would be the step down from the AV10.
@@augustinecabrera121 maybe he means a CINEMA20
Indeed that would be great. I'd love a "cheap" preamp/processor.
I know it can power 13 channels, but i really wish it could process 15 so i could do a 9.1.6 setup.
Exactly. Better of with a 6800 and a 2 channel external amp to get the same 13.4 as the A10H at a much cheaper price point. A major missed opportunity by Denon.
Then get the A1H.
Thanks Gene and team, come on viewers tap the like 👍 button for them hc Audioholics rocks 🎸 ty
Hi Gene & Phil. The AVR looks awesome...... but when are we going to see PRE OUT and SUB OUT on the PMA A110 /3000NE?? Cheers S
I wish I knew about the release of the A10 before I upgraded my 8500H to the 6800H!
Upgraded that's a Downgrade
Everyone knew the 8500 was getting replaced and you jumped the gun thinking the 6800 was the new 8500 but Why ? Dirac Live ? 4 independent Subwoofers ?
I didn't know!
@@petercarberry470 your not missing much over the A10 with its 13.4 limitation. Stick with the 6800.
Curious ... how do the latest flagship Denon's stack up against the Storm ISP MK2 Processor (or newer) with equivalent amps, Gene. I know you've been setting up a Storm Processor and thought I'd ask since you do so much testing and many reviews.
When will next x series come out? Is 3800/4800 going to be replaced soon?
So this A10H is exactly the same as A1H minus 2 channels?
Also no XLR input and outputs.
@@sven_verbruci and looks like even if you add another 2 channels of external amplification it can only do 13 and not 15 like the A1. Disappointing.
Still waiting for a stripped down avr with massive power and sq like Emotiva.
15.4 is on website denon , for 13 ch it can diliver power
damn this cost 5500 usd where i live, the onkyo RZ70 was 1990. got the onkyo hope its nice =D
Whats the advantage of this over the X8500HA? 2 more sub outs?
New amp module based on A1H, improved DACs, improved HDMI, DIRAC support.
Awesome, now can we get some midrange preamps from Denon like the AV1 preamp only and the AVR10 preamp only?
What’s the fear of Denon giving us these preamps at a lower cost than a receiver without going to the cost of a Marantz?
An AVR 10h preamp with no amps and no speaker terminals would have less manufacturing cost then the AVR10h receiver.
And then build a seperate multichannel amp and we can then switch the processor out every 4-7 years and keep the power for 10-15 years, or leverage a different investment in amps.
No Denon is out of the separate market and will be leaving that to Maranzt
@@edwarddesmond2975 my request is that changes from No to Yes.
@@edwarddesmond2975 My request is that No changes to Yes.
Sales is a results based business and there are no sales results for a Denon pre amp lower cost / lower quality then the Marantz Preamp. But there are sales of other manufactures at this price range.
At the end of the day the cost of design, manufacturing and cost of sale needs to be recovered by sales. And for several years Denon Marantz has a hole in its preamp range and that’s a low cost preamp for the people who want a lower cost and more power then a singe power supply that a receiver can offer.
I’ve invented many things that have sold for hundreds of millions of dollars and if I had stopped every time I heard No there would be no GPS navigation
How does this new AVR-A10H stack up against the Cinema 30?
@EdUwadia 2 more channels of amplification, higher end DACs (ESS9018 vs 9017). Both great products. Marantz has a torodial PS and better aesthetics, IMO.
@@Audioholics Thanks for the quick response! Looking forward to hearing more about the new Denon. I did notice from the image that the Cinema 30 doesn’t seem to have XLR connections, which would be a nice addition considering Integra and Yamaha flagships include them
@@Audioholics If aesthetics weren't a concern and both met my needs, which one would you choose, A10H or Cinema 30? This is for a dedicated 9.3.4 theater. Have an external amp for LCR. Mostly HT with occasional music. Not sure what the net impact of better DACs on the A10H vs better PS on the Cinema 30 is. Small price difference between the 2 doesn't matter to me. Thanks.
Can Phil have a word with the tech support guys and get them to fix the Heos Skill Input select bug they broke and confirmed over a year ago? 😂
This is better than rz70/805/8.4??
Big question..
Denon it's double the price..
The Denon is still better but not 2X better. The Onkyo at $2k is the deal of the century.
@@Audioholics thanks Gene 👍

Too bad the rz70 doesn't do front wides. Is there a slightly better version that does front wides available?
whaoo I just check the specification 900w power consumption 😝
@@mauriciob8260 that's nit a max power rating. See: www.audioholics.com/av-receiver-reviews/denon-avr-a10h
I have the 8500HA ,,, First thing I did was compare the weight of my 8500HA to the A10H They weight the "Same" !!!!!!!!! What's going on !
@DarthVader-ym9mk same power supply and same # of amplified channels. A10H has upgraded power modules, HDMI and 4 sub outs.
I'm assuming by the number of channels, this thumbnail is actually to scale!
@@Bradimus1 😆
That wipes out the need for separates (at least from my standpiont).
“13.2 channel…” 🤔🤷♂️ on the intro.
Denon + Sound United = sucks. Horrible service and support.
