Swaziland: going to church in Zombodze

  • This was a church that my wife and I attended occasionally while living and working in Zombodze (Ngwane) as Peace Corps Volunteers (2008-2010). A storm seriously damaged the building 6 or 7 years beforehand, but the congregation kept on meeting there (not many other options). Eventually we helped them procure materials necessary to repair or rebuild the structure. Christianity is widespread in Swaziland. In fact, I think most Swazis would identify themselves as being Christian. Our Chiefdom alone had around 50 different little churches, all of them similar in style to this one: evangelical, ultra-charismatic, and reminiscent of the Southern Baptist preaching tradition.
