    Mick I continue to find your pen reviews among the most insightful and useful out there. I appreciate your close attention to detail and design. Your respect for proper industrial design is refreshing in how you discuss the tight integration between aesthetics and functionality ... and use it to draw rational conclusions regarding how the product excels or fails. Despite your calm presentation, your reviews carry a insightful level of consideration which for me aligns with my personal expectations / values. I had missed this specific review, but I'm glad I found it; the review had exactly the type of information I needed from a person I trust. Many thanks!

    So glad I found your channel! Your reviews are to the point and useful. Also an odd bit but I get terrible headaches and your specific voice and the sound quality on your videos is one of the very few that soothe rather than aggravate when I have one.

    Nice work Mick! I have my MB, Pelikan, Visconti, etc.. but I always come back to the 8 or so Twsbi's that I have.. I love them all.. especially my 580 Rose gold! And Philip Wang is a class act representing the company! Keep the nice work flowing!

    This video is really helpful to me! I'm also a TWSBI fan & I'm adding a broad & stub to the family this week! That will give me one of everything except for extra fine which I'm not too interested in. Thank you for the helpful video!

    Well done. Great nib comparison. TWSBI is one of the most consistent nibs among Mass produced pens. Thanks for putting this together.

    Thanks for all this, and other similar videos you've put out that are MUCH appreciated comparisons.
    Looks to me like your 580 Medium is just a WET writer and didn't offer much contrast, but I bet it's glorious to write with.

    Just for some clarity, the nib sizes stated are slightly off. The 580 actually uses a n°5, with the Vac700 using a 6. The eeco actually uses a modified n°5. This nib is not interchangeable with other n°5s.

    The 580ALs don't use No.6 nibs, they're size 5.5 . That's a size 5 feed with slightly larger nib (broader shoulders, slightly longer tines).
    The Vac 700R is a size 6 nib.

    I wish Rhodia would make it a bit easier to split the paper where it's perforated. It's hard to look at the paper when it's all ripped like that, and it happens with mine, I have to go in with a knife and trim the excess paper off

    Does the TWSBI medium write like a Pilot Medium or is it more of a Lamy Safari medium?

    • @sonnyca
      @sonnyca 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, TWSBI medium is similar to Pilot medium nib. Lamy (I have LX) medium on the other hand is thicker than TWSBI medium and slightly thinner than the TWSBI broad.

    I bought my first TWISBI eco and 580 after watching your video. What are your thoughts on the feed? I almost bent my feed trying to change them between TWISBI models.

  • @matthewschneider8106
    @matthewschneider8106 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks Mick, a good comparison! As you stated, TWSBI medium nibs do have variation between the different sizes. My Eco, 580, and Vac700R medium nibs all write a bit differently, with the 700R being the widest and wettest of them all. I've not yet gotten a TWSBI stub, but may get one for the 700R, although that new gray 580AL looks pretty sharp.

    I have been trying to decide between a broad and a stub in lamy
    Or
    a broad and a stubby in Twisbi.
    Any suggestions for a newbie?

      Go with TWSBI, you won’t regret it. I have Lamy pens and I’m not a huge fan. I also have the medium TWSBI Eco and a broad TWSBI mini and I love these pens. I will be getting the TWSBI Eco Rosegold 1.1 stub next.

    Enjoyed your video.
    I have only been using fountain pens for bit over a year and always get EF and F and do have 2 Ecos and love the Pilot Preras. Want to try a different stub and more for notes in pretty writing and not sure if I would be happier with broad or stub?

    • @theoffstageme
      @theoffstageme  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This will depend on a number of factors… such as the size and style of your handwriting to how you hold the pen. If you want the writing to have some flair, and you can consistently hold your pen on the correct angle (something I am not good at) I would suggest a stub. I enjoy the Twsbi stub nibs. But if you just want to show off the ink colour and your handwriting is a decent size, the Twsbi broad nibs are great.

      @@theoffstageme I enjoy writing cursive and more on slant with three finger grip. I live thin lines ( EF) but want to see color shading better.

    • @theoffstageme
      @theoffstageme  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think you might enjoy a stub nib. And something like the Twsbi or Lamy 1.1mm stubs, might be a good place to start. as well as the Twsbi Eco, check out the Twsbi 580. The slightly larger nib gives the fingers a nice distance from the page helping find a really comfortable, relaxed writing experience in my opinion.

      Michael Simon OH YES!!! The TWSBI 580 ALR Nickel Grey blew my mind. I'll get my first TWSBI, a TWSBI MINI AL Blue in EF, soon and if it writes well _I HAVE TO GET THE OTHER ONE!!!_

      @mcnanns 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@herrkeks8509 I'm thinking of the Emerald green 580 AL and I think EF for me because in non-fountain pens I usually go with .38 because I like the finest lines I can get

    • @herrkeks8509
      @herrkeks8509 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mcnanns I‘m thinking about this one as well. I have the Mini AL blue in EF and the 580 AL R Nickel Grey. I would recommend the 580 AL. It is very smooth, IF you let the pen barely touch the page it really is very smooth :) And the nib has a little bit of give to it. You can‘t use this give while writing, but you can use it to make thick lines. I also want to get the AL Emerald! This time in 1.1 stub, this is a very nice nib for me because i write like ///// _this_ and not like ||||| this, so it still es relatively fine :) I can only recommend the 580 EF. Especially the Emerald color seems to look great. I don’t necessarily recommend the Mini EF... Stiff as nails :P and it still is smooth (doesn’t grab the page), but it feels like you sandpaper. Not necessarily bad, but when you can get the 580, then get the 580. Very smooth when you write with a very light hand. Great pen :)
