Oh thank goodness, I asked for a video like this years ago. I didn't think you'd actually do it. Especially when so many forums say it sounds similar to an SM58
I the context of a mix I can see it working. There were old live engineer guys on an old forum I used to frequent in the early 2000s that rattled on about this over the 58.
Freddy Mercury's favorite Mic! Yes, these mics were designed for use at max 2". They're not flat even at 6", that's why your Behringer sounds better at that distance. The EQ on most of the mics you tested varies by the inch. So a stage singers Mike is EQed for around 1". The Behringer actually misses that goal having it's best sound at least 6" away. By the way, I loved your musical interlude - very refreshing and unexpected 😊 Edit: After reading all the comments it's quite clear that people are not used to the usage distance catagories. Andrew rightly, if cautiously, points out how trebly the mic gets after 6 inches but that's not what it was designed for. Use a pencil for voice moderation. You'll have a larger area of linearity.
You may not be a fan of that mic on the acoustic, but I was listening to it thinking that it sounded great! I felt like it was fine for the electric. Very interesting how we all interpret these things so very differently. Another great and informative video. Thanks!
It's on the brighter side but still sounds good. I like the look of it. Reminds me of my 545SD I bought used back in the late 90s -- pretty sure it was made in the 70s. Good sounding mic -- excellent on snare and guitar cabs.
AHHH.... Finally Podcastage is back with it's video....I was just thinking when next video will be coming.....But while I was thinking....This video came 💘💗🌟💫 I'm Microphone addict 😍😍😍 Waiting for Condenser Microphone review 😍😍😍
Danke! Nicely done, as always, Bandrew! There's not much to ad. I didn't like it for spoken word on your voice. Guitar, electric and acoustic, sounded terrible to my ears. The awkward sound of string slides was unbearable The acoustic guitar sounded harsh in the mids and over all unbalanced. Where it shines is for singing vocals.
It's the bright, sparkly Shure dynamic basically. It's my choice for higher pitched male singing who like to sit on top of the mic (but with a pop filter and a de-esser - possibly start to turn if off axis maybe as well.)
Do you plan on covering the Shure MV6? A friend's looking for an upgrade from a Blue Yeti for streaming and that's looking like a good option, but there aren't a lot of comprehensive reviews and samples like your style out there
ive got an old us made version of Shure 565 from the 1970 ties - its the Woodstock mic , everybody used it ! but I don't think my mic has ever been so bright as the one tested in this vid. I gotta check it out. And I'm also one of the many who loves your music tests.
This is the best reviewer of all time! Had to like and subscribe. That 565 sounds awesome. It has a brighter sound than the SM58. Its what I needed and have been trying to find. The looks are spot on too. The Bheringer or how ever you spell it is actually very good fornthe price. Impressive. Theyre a very good company too with many great instruments. What preamp are you using with that 565? Sorry if you said thst already, but I missed it. New to the tech talk. 😂
when I record bands this is the one I use for the live vocals most of the time. It's my go to dynamic mic. I also typically use a stereo pair of 545SD's on guitar cabs!
Wow, I actually really liked it on both guitar tests. I bet this would pair really well with a darker sounding speaker. Remind me, do you use a Vintage 30 in that iso cab?
Yup. Vintage 30 in the box of doom. I mic it off center though. I include center of the cone demos on this though: th-cam.com/video/XVWNdK1CFU8/w-d-xo.html I have considered changing it out though.
I'm a bass/baritone. The sd565 has more in the midrange. I compared it to the SM58 with the same EQ and the SM58 has more low end. It's weird that it cuts more in the mix compared to the SM58 altough it's older 🤔
For me, if I want a stage mic, I would want one that is very flat across the entire frequency spectrum so that I can keep the distance and speak from a 45 degree angle.
one of, if not the only, mic on stage at the original Woodstock. I'd grab one of these if it ever appeared in front of me. I've got its 57-ish cousin, the 545, and it's got a similar vibe to it. Pretty good sounding for an older design.
I think every other mic you tested in this video sounded better than the 565SD for vocals. Its got quite a nasty mid-range honkiness and nasal quality. It did sound good on guitars to me though.
I like System of a Bandrew. Interesting mic, I actually like it a fair bit. Kinda seems like it has the benefits of getting right on top of it like a 57, with 58 functionality.
I’m torn on the switch. On one hand I know someone will accidentally move it and blame the sound engineer. On the other I do like being able to switch it off if you’re a solo operator
I'm using Fifine K688 right now What is the microphone that I should get next for 200$-300$ (I make videos and podcast on TH-cam I'm not gonna use it for music stuff)
I actually prefer the XM5800 and use a couple myself, super cheap and perfectly good enough for a high quality vocal sound through an amp for open mic stuff. Yes the more expensive mic's have a touch more detail in the audio, but the difference really isn't justified in the huge price increase, unless money isn't an issue and you're recording in a studio, and want the absolute best possible mic's, and in those cases surely you would spend £1000's on a mic not £100's ?
Oh thank goodness, I asked for a video like this years ago. I didn't think you'd actually do it. Especially when so many forums say it sounds similar to an SM58
I just did a session with a jazz singer/pianist and this was the vocal mic of choice. (Live performance video). It sounded great.
@@meistudiony how close was she on the mic?
@ moved around a bunch but usually more than 3-4”.
I the context of a mix I can see it working. There were old live engineer guys on an old forum I used to frequent in the early 2000s that rattled on about this over the 58.
Have not seen your channel for a long time. Man, you look great! And thank you what you doing.

I wish I could understand what you're saying as it looks like very valuable information. 😂
I requested this review! 👍😎
You may not be a fan of that mic on the acoustic, but I was listening to it thinking that it sounded great! I felt like it was fine for the electric. Very interesting how we all interpret these things so very differently. Another great and informative video. Thanks!
sometimes you make great music just for testing mics
@@hayvanhucresi thanks. I try to make music that I enjoy.
I always leave these videos thinking how incredible he is as a guitarist! Why don't you play in a band?
He used to - hence his nickname Bandrew
It's on the brighter side but still sounds good. I like the look of it. Reminds me of my 545SD I bought used back in the late 90s -- pretty sure it was made in the 70s. Good sounding mic -- excellent on snare and guitar cabs.
It is incredible how the Behringer pairs with these microphones, it seems to me that the xm8500 even sounds better
Dang, that sounds way better than a 58 in my opinion.
I eat my microphones so I could see this being super useable
AHHH.... Finally Podcastage is back with it's video....I was just thinking when next video will be coming.....But while I was thinking....This video came 💘💗🌟💫 I'm Microphone addict 😍😍😍 Waiting for Condenser Microphone review 😍😍😍
It's like a shiny SM58, with a "shinier" sound too. I like it.
Used to glisten on those old Kerrang! and NME photos 😁
Wouldn't be surprised if Sure puts this capsule in a broadcast mic.
Came for the review, stayed for the music!
Love your vids keep up the great work
Sounds great up close.

The Freddie Mercury Mic is C R A Z Y
Ooooo sparkly chrome
That's the mic for a Dazzler cosplay!

Do the 545 next!

I like how in-depth your reviews are on microphones. You have covered many brands except for DPA. Would you please review the DPA 2028 someday?
Wow, I actually really liked it on both guitar tests. I bet this would pair really well with a darker sounding speaker. Remind me, do you use a Vintage 30 in that iso cab?
Yes sir vintage 30. Not direct on come though.

Ok, the music test in this video went so hard.
I really like the song. Not a bad mic, but I would go for the AKG D5 based on that comparison test.

I have never heard of this one. Looks cool
That’s the microphone from Freddie, right?
Will you be doing a review of the 545?
Sometimes in your videos you mention you use a mic splitter, which specific ones do you use?
Please test the E965, AKG D7, C7 etc please ❤
Why did you stop reading the specs because now I have to go into the website and look it up myself
They are posted on the screen and typed out in the description. I do it to speed up the video.
For singing, would you recommend the se electronics v7 or the shure 565sd?
This kind of thing depends on the voice more than universally recommendation. Sometimes the rest of the mix also affects which mic works best.
@JoeStuffzAlt Valid points, I agree
Strange thing is that you didn't checked the mic on/off switch sound.
I think every other mic you tested in this video sounded better than the 565SD for vocals. Its got quite a nasty mid-range honkiness and nasal quality.
It did sound good on guitars to me though.
This mic sounds great on your voice
Quite curious about how this mic compares to DPA's offerings.
I haven't tried any DPA mics as of yet.
Awesome sounding mic! Can you review the 545sd?
I like System of a Bandrew.

..Again a nice song 😉👍
The Late Freddie Murcury used this as his Microphone of Choice on stage,
Looks classy/vintage with the chrome on chrome.
Can you please test out the Shure MV6? 🙏🙏
Impressive rejection of the Sss, many of the other mics the esses jumps out.
I actually prefer the 8 series sennheiser for its warmth. The beta SMs are are also better than anything that’s bright.
Could you do a HyperX Quad cast S or the JBL party box digital wireless microphone next?
On Amazon Saudi Arabia, it is sold by shure Germany for $180
When are we going to see a bandrew's music spotify channel?
I was planning on putting out some music this year and then life decided to get crazy and I haven't had the time to work on it.
Surprised you didn't put it against the Q2U

Please do a review for the shure mv6
The preamp and amp make a bigger difference than any mic. No mic sounds the same through different audio devices
Behringer sounded great for the price
Hi! Like always good wishes from me. thanks.
AGAIN AND AGAIN SM58 WON THE BATTLE..
Dam that mic is a different taste I like natural transparent mics this is a robot mic u sounds like rd32
Shure doesn"t dissappoint. Neither does your music.
Why this mic sounds like u a robot
I owned 565 for karaoke freetime
Shure ksm 42 is king and queen prince princess all around vocal no need to test any mics lol jk in I naked
no. bad for me. sharp like knife. ouch.
