There is no doubt Aguero has been a major thorn in the west London club’s side, but the fortunes of both clubs might have worked out differently had Chelsea gone through with plans to sign him from Atletico first.
A decade ago, Aguero looked bound for Stamford Bridge. Aged just 21, he was already making a big impression in Spain and Chelsea were looking to make a marquee signing to freshen up their attack.

Despite being a Liverpool fan, I agree with you. However, you have a new generation coming through under Lampard. You have Odoi, Mount, and Abraham coming from the academy.
KDB and Salah could not have developed to world class players if they stayed at Chelsea. Chelsea just had way too many good players at that time.
@@Trigga_47 I agree. Also, many clubs will loan players for development (Mount, Abraham, others) or sell them for funds to buy first team quality players. Also, under Abramovic, you can buy back players you sold.

To be fair, Bony was one of the best finishers in the Premier League at the time and was affordable since we aren’t a very big team and can’t turn down big offers. Had he not become ill and suffered repeated injuries, he probably would have gone on to be an excellent back up for City. There’s no denying Dybala is the better player, but he plays a different position and style, plus with no premier league experience, he might not have been what City needed. You can’t expect Dybala to fill a position like Bony would have, they’re so different.

I don't care if we didn't buy him. Knowing Chelsea we would've sold within 3 seasons in which he would've scored over 60 goals.
This ranks as probably my biggest regret of the Abramovich era at Chelsea. I remember all of this like it was yesterday, the "marquee" signing that never happened phase, the pursuit of Neymar in 2010 was especially tiresome (Robinho pursuit 2.0) - rumor was once we'd got him we'd loan him out to West Ham for two years to get games/settled in London before bringing him into the team, was the period where our loan system was just becoming a thing.
What I remember most about that deadline day in 2011 wasn't the joint Aguero & Godin bid, wasn't the instant 48 hour pursuits of Torres & Luiz, it was the match we played that day vs. Sunderland. We'd been in dreadful form for months, Sunderland had smashed us 0-3 at the Bridge earlier that season (probably the worst Chelsea performance I've ever seen), but the pressure was on cos of the signings made that day & as if from nowhere the team played brilliantly - Anelka in particular had a blinder. I can look back now and laugh, but at the time that was infuriating. LOL

ghostilla I know.. all i'm saying is that the Chelsea scouts have made some pretty godlike diggin when it comes to finding talent, Salah from Basel, he was basically in nobodys radar at the time, KDB from genk, noboey even knew about him, Courtois, Lukaku etc.. these are worldclass players today that cost us about 30 mil all together and look at where they are now..
@@rusmir12345 i know what you're saying, but focusing on the scouting alone is not enough. it's all down to the board to decide. for the first few years of Abramovic era, chelsea have been making loses financially, in terms of players exchange of buying and selling. when came 2010's the board wanna tighten the purchase, and for the first time they saw they can make profit from selling players so they did not hesitate to bank in for the likes of Sturridge, Mata, Oscar, KDB, Schurrle, Salah, Lukaku and etc. they felt they were winners. But little did they know that they were actually losers in the transfer windows. Yes Marina Granovskaia did excellent in negotiating good transfers, but there are some bad transfers as well. Kovacic market value was only €35M, but chelsea paid €45M because real madrid knew chelsea had to buy the only player they could in the transfer ban. do you remember chelsea were also in for Van Dijk and Alisson? chelsea were not willing to pay the asking price, and they are regretful now.
ghostilla Yeah and not to mention the constant manager switch, I think Mourinho was a bigger cause for the loss of KDB and Salah more so than the board wanting to make money, He wasnt playing them nor did he intend to use them in the future plans, i guess the board and Marina saw no other option but the sell them before considering sacking Mou first.. Hopefully Lamps will turn this around

Bit harsh to say Torres didn't pay off. It was a rough start and his scoring record doesn't reflect well but he made a huge contribution to the club that won't be forgotten.
I'm actually glad Chelsea didn't sign Aguero. A top class striker at that time could have reduced Drogba's minutes. No Drogba means no 2012 Champions League win in my opinion.
