In Montana we get avalanches but rarely does anyone die because avalanches are predictable. They occur in the same places and cover the same territory basically every time making what they call the avalanche zone. Those guys in Patagonia knew exactly where to film and stand, at the edge of the zone, before the avalanche started, probably by blast caps.
Everyone saying running is pointless cause you can't outrun it. No shit but you can put more distance between you the wall of ice slamming towards you. The farther away you are the better chance you won't get buried.
As a Skier/Boarder who lives in Northern California, and skis the Sierra Nevada 🏔️'s EVERY season, an avalanche is honestly my BIGGEST fear when I'm out there enjoying nature.
It’s crazy how deceiving those avalanches looked. I thought the camera guys were far and safe from the snow. I was getting goosebumps when the snow was getting closer.

Well t think they noticed it’s mostly fine powder with no real force or masses of snow behind it so far from the mountain itself. . They were uphill too so it wasn’t really dangerous. Looked amazing though. And of course everyone gets a little nervous because you never know for sure

The airbags are great but kinda dangerous bc they can give a VERY false sense of security, and this video is good proof: that last slide didn’t even reach turbulent flow! More of a sluff really. I’ve got a good friend who’s a badass ski mountaineer, carries an air bag but doesn’t know a god damn thing about snowpack structure and stability tests, and god only knows the last time he practiced with beacons and probes… but off he goes into the mountains…
Repeating what we already have watched is irritating. Several sites do this just to increase the overall video length. Do they believe their audiences are stupid? This is prime example of why I will not subscribe to a channel that pulls these patents.

And this doesnt even really account for people who just live by mountains with passes and own snowmobiles. Or people going down smaller passes
Yeah, you clearly do not skii or snowboard..... First, the equipment really isn't that expensive and you can often find really good equipment off of places like craigslist or other second hand places. Secondly, you do not have to stay or even go to a resort. There are many places that cost free to no more that 45 dollars for the day. Thirdly, charging that much money and price gouging someone while making it unavailable for most people to buy is wrong. Especially when they are claiming to be making these to save lives.
That is not what the avy airbag does. It’s a protective shield for your head for debris. The snow will cover the bag if it wants to the bag won’t stop it. His quick thinking to grab for branches helped that dude. Didn’t save his life at all because he way in a very controlled break. Just stay calm and fall back to training
The glacier shown at 5:03 is the Perito Moreno glacier which is located in Argentina, not Chile. The Argentinian side also has plenty of rainforests and glaciers. You should look into this better since this is meant to be an educational channel.

That’s 40seconds to get farther from the source or find a bigger rock to take cover behind. Implying that the only course of action is to spend those 40seconds simply hoping you don’t die, while filming it is absurdity,

listen to weather reports, prepare your tours and dont go off track and u dont need to fear. atleast thats how we as austrians do it.

The artillery pieces that are used in avalanche control are called howitzers. They are very effective.

General Sherman is in Sequoia National park over 300 miles away from Lake Tahoe - its at least a 6 hour drive.
