i mean... i get it. I don't get why everyone (except Mokuba) refers to Seto Kaiba, as Kaiba, when, not only is that his adopted family's last name, so it wasn't his original lasname,
but even Yugi, refers to him as Kaiba instead of Seto.
That would be the equivalent of Ash, referring to Garry, by using his last name Oak.
Nobody likes Kaiba.
To be fair, it’s actually not uncommon to refer to someone by surname; particularly when a person has a common first name but an uncommon last name, just because it's a more distinctive name as well as non-Anglophone cultures such as Latin America and Japan.
And that makes sense in a social setting, or maybe even between friends, I get that. But the reason it confuses me here is because it’s in a family setting.

Also real talk, I think the reason Gru's name is Gru is just because it was his alias as a villain.
