  • In modern-day China, the country’s current law on marriage defines it as a “system” based on three things: first, the “free choice of partners”; second, “monogamy”; and third, the “equality between man and woman." Two people binding themselves through marriage requires the complete willingness. Watch the video to find out more about marriage in China.

Nice video content! Excuse me for butting in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you heard the talk about - Penichael Esteemed Preeminence (just google it)? It is an awesome one of a kind product for making contact with your own spirit guide minus the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my old buddy Taylor after a lifetime of fighting got excellent results with it.

This is surprisingly close to the evolution of the Hindu marriage customs as well. In the first pictograph, did the bide and groom have to be tied together by a cloth? Hindus still do this! The matching of birth dates, proposals, the matchmaker(it's the 'priest' pundit for us), the procession, the bride wearing red, the three days visit to the bride home after the wedding.....very awesome.

Thank you the both Chens, I am getting married and we are agreed to get a minimal traditional chinese wedding, but we don't want the fancy parts like the door game, offerings from the groom's family, the video and the decorated car things. We're trying to conserve the old tradition like the tea celemony, the introduction of family members and the 10 courses food. Anyways, your videos about chinese summarize all the important thing to do in the wedding and that helps us a lot!! Hopefully we don't really have to eat the old-fashioned tangyuan in our wedding.

Its really interesting how turkish and chinese culture is so similar. I guess bcs turks originatet from the far east we got a lot from there. Some point that are similar or the same are:
    1. The color red (we used to use it but now it is mostly used at the hena night where women celebrate befor the wedding)
    2. The red cloth (we still use this. The grooms family comes to pick up the bride and she wears it)
    3. The bride used to sit on a horse or a donkey befor there were cars.(i think this is similar to the lil wood cabin, cant remember the name)
    4. The grooms family comes to ask the brides family for permision to get their son married to their daughter. In more conservative and religious families this is still very normal and most of my friends go threw this. (Its basically how you get to know each other. You then spend some time to know more about each other and THEN decide yes or no. And if you are sure you want to marry each other this "formal" event takes place. They get the rings and the red ribbon between them gets cut threw by the eldest person and the 2 ppl are engaged!)
    5. We also give gifts to each other as mentioned in the video. The brides family makes a beautiful Package (there are so many nice boxes esp made for this that one can buy). In it can be anything but mostly rly nice and luxurious items for the family and same goes for the other family. This happens after they are engaged and befor the actual wedding.
I guess there are far more things i could say but this much should be enough 😀. I love chinese history and cultur as it is very similar to yours 🤗

English used to have the word "go-between" and it meant basically the same thing, without all the horoscope etc. Non-arranged marriages are relatively new in the West too. In France wealthy/noble people still have marriage contracts, today they're called prenuptial agreements, but it's the same thing.

great vid but plz google 漢服 hanfu, that's what chinese wear before Manchurian invaders took over. And qipao was invented in 20th century, not particularly in "ancient china".

I wonder if bribes were sent to the mai-poa (I'm sure I spelled it wrong) so that she'd find someone attractive.

Hayley Bartek It is more like commission. If the Ma Po find someone the family is satisfied with, she would get more commission.

the Chinese Indonesians still roughly follow these rituals in our weddings.. i know some of my friends' family that strictly follow this..
which is funny because some of my family members from China were weirded out by these customs because they simply dont do most of these anymore..

Vietnamese culture is like this . wedding candles and a charade of the groom family in a line bearing gifts. And the Husband and wife cakes. We wear red too. That is because Vietnam was part of China. Plus, red envelopes

The Property, Dowry and Jewelry gifts.
Usually the it is the own property or belongs to the family. Sometime the female party might own more properties and more financial power than the male counterpart.
As long as either one party is financially strong(not just stable). It will not be a problem.
The Dowry part is like a savings to both parties even though it is for the bride.
Example: my sister got dowry and jewelry gift blessings from relatives (usually in the form of gold jewelry 916/999). It varies from 100g to 2.5kg of 916/999 gold depends on how wealthy and numbers of their respective family members.

this is awesome! thanks for introducing the traditions of Chinese wedding. Nowadays Chinese weddings rules are much more flexible and pay more respect to personal wills. So don't be terrified by this lol!!

Chinese marriages were generally arranged. Eastern Europe practiced arranged marriages too. I’m half Ukrainian and my grandparents had an arranged marriage. PS they hated each other. Lol

Third party cause so many unhappiness due they want brother to marry own kind not Cantonese but Northern Chineses. In America it does not matter. But bad inlaws never change still to this time.
