I live in Kent UK. I pretty much see the spitfire flying over head every day. I always stop to say hello and admire the fly over as it heads for the cliffs.
This airplane is in Comox BC about a mile from my house right now (August 16) where it's restoration started so to see it return is a bit of magic for those of us who saw it arrive as a pile of what looked like junk. It's here til August 20th when Dave Hadfield flies it back east to it's hangar back there. What a treat it's been to see it up close, finished and flying after all these years. Very special. An I will add that a friend of mine named Bonn Svensson was one of the structural engineers early on and performed metal magic in hand forming parts for this Spitfire. Unfortunately Bonn didn't live to see it fly so this is for you Bonn. You did it with a whole lot of other very very talented and dedicated people who made this possible.
I've waited 40 plus years to see a Spitfire in person. First time I saw one was in my Time/Life book about the Battle of Britain..and that was 1977. Was there to see it up close along with the other Mark IX.
I got to see Dave Hadfield fly this beautiful Spitfire at the Great Lakes International Airshow on the Father's Day weekend. He can really fly that thing well. Also was honoured to have a beer with him later in that evening.
Next best thing....I fly a MK IX in my simulator every day. Took 2 weeks just how to learn how to start and taxy her. They have a sound mod that re-creates that Merlin magic. You can fly alongside her and just listen to that roar. Great fun.
Tom Its home is any place where it is looked after and appreciated. We have three Spitfires flying in New Zealand and wouldn't want them to go anywhere else for any reason. I've seen them at air shows and when they are performing they are show stoppers. At Classic Fighters Oamka 2017 I was talking to an Australian couple who said they love coming over for air shows in NZ. They said Civil Aviation regulations in Australia put restrictions on what pilots can do at air shows but in NZ pilots are allowed to "fly them like they stole them." I got my desktop photo because of that. At Classic Fighters Omaka 2015, the Mark XIV Spitfire made its first public appearance since crashing on takeoff at Wanaka in January 1996. On the Saturday at CFO 2015 John Lamont put on a show and I have him coming around the corner in a sixty-degree bank, fifty feet off the ground at 250 miles per hour. Some months later, I had a brief online chat with him and told him about the photo. He said he had the better view...
Do the Canadian Warbirds ever leave eastern Canada? I'm in MB and the only time we see anything is when they send the Lanc across the country begging for cash. And this happens once every twenty years! Such is life in the ROC. Rest Of Canada.
Indeed, although they all do sound a bit different. And don't forget that a reasonable number of Spitfires didn't use Merlins - and they sound very different.

I live near Goodwood and see them a lot too. Luckily, their hangar is right next to the car park!
The sound of victory.🇬🇧🇺🇸
Beautiful, brings a lump to my throat everytime I see a Spit 😍My Father worked on them in the war.
Goosebumps. Such a beautiful thing.

Thank you, Michael Potter!!!

The only thing missing is the burst of machine gun fire. Great video!
What a beautiful beast....

Heading there tomorrow to shoot some film. Can't wait!
Absolutely stunning
Must have been incredibly terrifying to have to fight against one of those.
My dad's favorite fighter plane
What a awesome war bird
Lovely!
awesome
Nice, super cool🔥🔥🔥
That was my grandfathers spitfire!
Nothing sounds like a Merlin ! Well, maybe TWO Merlins.
Randy Porter or 4 on a Lancaster lol
You should hear 12 spitfires in formation!
Mark Hanna was the greatest postwar Spitfire Pilot
And not forgetting Mark's Dad Ray Hanna who displayed Spitfires for many years with such great panache and style.
Both sadly missed by so many.
I love England. God bless the Queen. X
Britain. I'm saying this as a Scot. I also love Canada.
@@overthewebb RR Merlin engines were built in Glasgow.
Someone says the last flying Spitfire in Canada, but unless Michael Potter has stopped flying his, there are 2 :)
Michael Potter sold the other Spitfire, now he owns and flies this Y2 K.
Thanks Jay! I had no idea which is why I wondered. Too bad I couldn't have bought it! LOL
👍👍👍👍👍
Shame this beautiful plane is so far away from its home
Tom

No other plane sounds like a Spitfire...
Beaux Toxic except the several others that used the Merlin...
Indeed, although they all do sound a bit different.
And don't forget that a reasonable number of Spitfires didn't use Merlins - and they sound very different.
EricIrl That's a fact, later variants of the Spitfire used the Rolls Royce griffon engineer
So not even the Spitfire sounds like the Spitfire.
Hee hee. If it has a Griffon engine - it definitely sounds different to the Merlin powered versions.
