  • I show how to remove an old worn drive belt and install a new belt on a Sole Fitness treadmill. I also show the tension adjustment process. My treadmill is a Sole F85, but the process is the same for other models of Sole treadmills. My treadmill has over 3000 miles of running logged on it and the drive belt was ready for replacement.

    Snatched Sole F60 for just a little over $100 in a practically brand new condition. Took it all apart for easier transportation and needed some help with tensioning the belts.
    I've been subscribed to RJ for years and yet not surprised to find that he has videos for exactly what I need. Thank you!

    Very well done. Did my belt in about 90 minutes start to finish - so not super fast but I took my time and watched directions closely and it is back to running perfectly. Bought my belt from Treadmill Doctors, on-line, and it came in 2 days.
    Thanks for posting this video, I would have been lost without it.

    This video just saved me $200+. Thank you for the insight, and straight forward instructions! I do not have a Sole Treadmill, but I have a LifeSpan TR4000i. Almost everything was the same, and I was able to figure out anything that was slightly different. I appreciate your time and effort!

    Thanks RJ. I used this technique on my Xterra treadmill and it worked. Both models appear to be very similar. However, the replacement belt would not fit in exact same as before so I had to move the motor a bit closer and also because of this, I had to re- align the front roller shaft by loosening the belt tightening screws completely and then adjust the distance and finally loosen both side belt tension Allen screws again, Centered the belt and kept working on each side in steps. Initially 5 turns and then start the treadmill at 0.5 mph, then increase it gradually to 2mph..... and see if the belt drifted. Once stable, I walked on it and if the belt slipped, kept on tightening 1/4 turn on each side till such time the belt worked perfectly at 3mph. I did not try to run at higher speeds but I guess, if it does not slip at 3mph, it is pretty good and by chance it does at higher speeds...... now I know what to do..... all thanks to you.

      just fully dissembled mine, its was super easy, will buy new motor drive belt, wash the walk belt, removed deck to fully clean it and will re apply new lube, do you think wd-40 is a good idea? or i should go for any specific treadmill only silicon based lube? Mine was sitting dead for 6 months due to walk belt touching one side and walking belt was skipping at certain speeds i thought it was time to trash it. But you videos really saved my treadmill. LOL you wont believe i am thinking to start to fix treadmills for other people since no one knows anything about properly fixing treadmills here.

    Hey RJ I just recently bought a Golds gym threadmill and it runs great until I step on it. I've followed your videos and hasn't fixed the problem. Could it be needing lubrication even though I recently bought it? The walking belt is evenly lined and doesnt go above 2&1/2 inches and the motor belt is tight but not to tight.

    Great video! Just wondering would it be easier to loosen up the motor fully and slip the drive belt out from the motor axle instead of loosening the front roller and having to realign the right side? Or maybe it's the same amount of work? Also do you know if it would be possible to upgrade my old F80 with a 3HP motor with a 3.5HP motor from a F85?

    Ya but you mention a universal socket in the video which is articulated to get around the motor. Would this work Neiko Heavy Duty 3-Piece Universal Impact Joint Socket Set? Also, I did not measure prior to changing the rollers like you mention to do in the video because I had not seen it. What do you think the measurement should? I'd like to think that it's pretty standard. What was it 3.5 what? Cm, inches,

      The walking belt is slipping or the drive belt, or both, when a load is on. There's friction. Too tight or too loose.
      The pulley sensor may be loose at the connection.
      The motor ground wire may be loose.
      The magnets in the motor may be loose.
      Check all wires

  • @RJTheBikeGuy

      Pretty good. My first TM was a ProForm. I broke the frame and destroyed the walking belt. Then came a Horizon. I cracked 5 different deck boards and wore out several sets of roller bearings. So far on the Sole, I have one out one pair of roller bearings, and not the drive belt. But other than, it is holding up well. Sole tech support is excellent.

      ***** if the treadmill just stops, that sounds like something other than belts. Maybe it is overheating, or thinks it is. There might be a bad sensor or something wrong electronically. That goes beyond this video. You should contact the manufacturer.

    This belt is a 610J8 Poly Vee Belt. You measure the outside of the belt with a tape measure and count the ribs on the inside and there you have it.

    • @Connorkmiec93
      @Connorkmiec93 ปีที่แล้ว

      Question, when I look up this belt, the specs say it is 61” long, which is obviously too long. Any ideas?

    • @eastcoastbearingsllc5794
      @eastcoastbearingsllc5794 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Connorkmiec93 Get a shoe string or electrical tape and trace the pulleys diagram. After that measure the shoe string or electrical tape and see what it measures.
      EXAMPLE: If its 49" long just add a 0 & it would be a 490J8(The 8 is the number of grooves on the pulley. If it has 6 grooves it would be a 490J6)

      @@eastcoastbearingsllc5794 My problem is that the OE belt has “610J” printed on it, but it measures approximately 24” in circumference. I’m totally lost, lol. It has 8 ribs.

      You can get them from Sole, or other places online. The wearable parts on my F-85 are warranted for 5 years, so they sent me the belt for free.

      RJ The Bike Guy They just sent me a new drive belt. This video rocks! Thanks! I only have 130 hours...or 800 miles on mine and when I removed the cover....there were rubber bits everywhere and basically a bald belt. Could it be my walking belt is too tight? Or maybe the drive belt was too loose/tight at amnufacturing?

      +RJ The Bike Guy yes it's a sole F80. The treadmill was skipping and I checked the belt and it was old and worn like in your video. I changed the belt following all your steps and when I was all don. I started it to test and when It starts running for a few seconds it stops then days LS on the time display and says "low speed". Have no idea why it's doing this.

    Instead of measuring the shaft position, why not mark on the frame for shaft center, especially if you don't have a caliper?

    okay so i was lubricating the bolts ( metal to metal friction) to end the squeeking sounds of my treadmills , and i saw the drive belt so i thought what the hell i might aswell lube it and i also cleaned under the walking belt and lubbed it , then i put everything back together and ran the treadmill , and everytime i stip on it now the belt slip or stop , so i figured the belt might be loose so i tightened it up a bit , and even addded more lube under the walking belt but still , now i think i shouldnt have lubed the drive belt it might be slipping and causing the problem now what should i do ? to unlube that drive belt

    • @RJTheBikeGuy
      @RJTheBikeGuy  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ibrahim aly NOOOO! The drive belt doesn't get lubed!!!! You will probably need to buy a new drive belt and clean those pulleys really well to get any oil/grease off of them. The walking belt gets lubed because it needs to slide of the deck.
