At the sail loft we use a regular paper stapler to hold the fold. You can pull them as you sew or place them out of the way.

Doug, I love those sun shades, they look very well built. last a lifetime....On Tuesday I spent nearly the whole day working on the little Honda. The front brake assembly has now been replaced with a good second hand original replacement I got off Ebay and the front brake is now done. The to do list is now almost done. Going to clean out the oil filter screen on the engine and change the oil. Just the tappets to adjust, give it a good clean and a polish and its job done. The bike is now as it stands ready for inspection (MOT) but I just want to get those last small bits done before I put it back on the road....Have a great day....

A lot of ways to do things that the professionals use are just to make it quicker, but if you're not paying someone by the hour, there are plenty of ways to get a similar result.
A good result too, a shade can really take the edge off when you get into the real tropics.

My black sunbrella sail cover and Bimini have lasted 15 years and needed to have stitching replaced. Black material lasts longer. So does black thread. Seems counter intuitive but black handles uv better. People ask if my black Bimini makes it hotter. Actually it's cooler unless I'm sticking my head right up to it because it blocks more light. Plus it hides stains better and black is just cool. Take care, love the videos!

I love you man, thanks so much .....Doug you have been such a great fellow man in my life, surprisingly and a bet not fully intentionally..... but I have to say that sometimes I need just a good guy that can try something and maybe act like a pro(even tho you have never done it before! but it is clear you put some thought into it) and sometimes just *be wrong* (thus learning better how you might be able to make it right when you do it again to fix it) but something about your 'way' for me just feels so 'true' in the end...and makes me feel 'okay' with myself
it is so important to me that you keep saying "get out in your shop and do something"(what did you make today) cause I want to, but there are so many other things that hit me up side the head to slow me down from doing what I want, that I just feel good to hear that support(even from some youtube guy that doesn't know me) to make me want and be ok with making the time, to just do stuff in the moments(anything/everything/anytime)....actually maybe I could make your voice saying that a ring tone on my phone? boy that could drive me nuts enough that I might just get some of my own stuff done out there(all the time?) anyway, I've just got to keep picking it back up, and/or starting over again somewhere
sadly, at this point you are the best help I can get,: I am so glad that I can get it! even if it is from someone as annoying as you

Hey Doug, when i was sewing up a leather interior for a kit car i built, whenever i folded an edge over to be sewed, i used a regular desktop stapler to hold it all together while i sewed it together. Staples come right out when finished. Trick like that may work for you the next time.

Nice thing about having them mostly flat to the deck will be in heavy rain drainage will mostly be at the center so you can actually get less wet when working off to the side. You can encourage this by weighting the centers with fishing net weights or other

    Doug,
A couple of options. A lightweigt rigid pole bewteen the lines.
I believe the mast sits at about the halfway point?
Could you use "shrouds" from the mast to hold the shade up, continuing to the rail or hull to hold the shade streched ?
I think lufting will be an issue in any significant wind, hope you have a quiet material.
Dam, that is one beautiful creation you have made. Keep enjoying.

I think there may be a couple of knots to add to your repertoire. The most important is the Advanced Rolling Hitch. It enables you to tighten a truckers hitch within an inch of it's life. The second knot is the Alpine Butterfly. You will never tie a truckers hitch the same; not if you are serious.
