Third largest city, biggest port in Karnataka not connected to the capital city, this is the state of people we elect (every party is the same in Karnataka) No accountability. Last 20 years it's been the same with these access roads to Mangalore
The Charmadi route is under expansion from Charmadi checkpost to Madyantar, a distance of 30 km since more than 8 months now. Charmadi doesn't make sense for Mangalore anymore till this work is complete. Charmadi is only if you want to drive towards Karkala and Moodbidre which means you need to drive on the work in progress section for 20 km. Charmadi Ghat itself in in superb condition since at least 3 years now and most of the expansion work near culverts and strengthening of crashwalls is done too. For Mangalore, Madikeri Sampaje Puttur Mani makes sense but Shiradi too in its present condition is ideal due to few completed sections between Addahole and BC Road.
My first time to Mangalore was in Jul-2013 in a KSRTC bus via Shiradi ghat.. I didn't know what to expect, journey was boring till Hassan; amazing big tall trees between Hassan and Sakleshpur and then Shiradi ghat in full monsoon incredible journey - still remember every bit of it
Another great video Kripal sir!! Just a point to share, if you are going to Udupi from Bangalore, then there is another route via Tumkur, Arsikere, Bhadravathi, and then onto Thirthahalli and descend via Agumbe ghats and reach Manipal, Udupi. This route is relatively better than Charmadi and Shiradi. However the Agumbe ghat is also quite narrow but only less hairpin bends.
Agum Ghat means Marne keliye hona tayyar. I have climbed the entire stretch from Someshwara to the top, Forest check point in December 1995. It is just 😢😢😢 if you get struch by a long vehicle blocking you in sharp pins. Avoid it. 😊😊😊
The hill roads looks like Mizoram too... The hills are beautiful there without monsoon rains, and it'll look nicer after it rains, fresh and unpolluted ...
Kripal Amanna sir, we have planned a trip to chikmagalur via Charmadi, next week. Feeling a bit of trepidation to travel through this route leading to Charmadi. But great video next time please stop at Charmadi hotel which is famous for kalthappa. Its an amazing spot for this amazing dish ,complete with fish curry. The owner is the winner of Rajyotsava award for saving lives in the Charmadi ghats. Please do check
Thank you for one more video .I also liked your previous video of Charmadi..I am able to feel it as I studied my PUC @ Ujire and used to cycle to Mundaje sometimes
In case you are coming via Udupi to Bangalore then come via Karkala Udupi >>>> Manipal >>> Karkala >>> Ujere >>> Charmadi >>> Belur >>> Hassan >>> Chanrayapatna >>> Nelmangala >>> Bangalore You will love the road I have been using this routing while I travel from Udupi to Bangalore
Oh there is even better route! Udupi - Agumbe - Balehonnuru - Aldur - Chikmagalur - Belur - Hassan - Bengaluru... Currently this is the best route with very minimal disruption
My drive home and back in first week of May 2024, remains similar to your blog. I prefer Charmadi than Shiradi. The XUV700 dances well in the twisties and it's such a beautiful experience.
Thanks for the vlogs. Very helpful to know the state of roads, I was thinking and planning to take ride with family and toddler. Certainly it looks tougher with the conditions showed in the vlog.
Thanks for making video Sir on these routes, it is always pleasure watching you. Just one input, I too recently travelled week back.. bad stretch of kaladaka and Upinangady can be avoided by coming via Shiradi diverting to Dharmastala, Ujire, Guruvayankere and then connecting the Karkala - padubidiri route( Roads are smooth and best) and reaching Udupi or Mangalore. And while coming back from Mangalore or Udupi, this same route make sense if need to avoid bad road streches. And one more important point is now you can totally skip Sakaleshpur town now, while coming from Mangalore as now the Highway is fully ready and operational however coming from Bangalore, you still have to come through Sakaleshwar town, as the highway route is not ready.
Sakhalespura bypass is open from both sides, while coming from blore just before the underpass you have to join highway , it's one-way up to a small strech, almost all vehicle's are taking it
I traveled just last week via Charmadi to Manipal. Your first video on Shiradi Ghat travel experience helped to make a decision . Thank you for making such informational videos I would also like to add one point - If there are folks who have motion sickness, better to avoid Charmadi as the constant turns can lead to them facing discomfort. My kid was in his child seat and threw up during the Ghat stretch. However he enjoyed the scenic views for the remaining journey.
Am glad you found the video useful. Yes, those with an issue of motion sickness may experience discomfort on the Charmadi ghat stretch. Keeping the driving pace steady and predictable, and the passenger strapped securely to minimise body roll, may help to some level.
Hi Kripal. Glad to know you are back home safe and sound Thanks for taking us through the Charmadi ghat. That's given me an option in case I plan a drive from Mangalore to Bangalore. I've been driving on ghats all across the country. Especially in the North East, where I've spent most of my time owing to my profession. That's the most thrilling part for me. I must compliment you on the wonderful sense of humor you possess. And yes, good choice of background score for your videos. Cheers.
Kripal this is great drive have driven couple of times and always prefer the GHAT as it is very scenic and must drive during monsoon where it rains and stops and you are literally between clouds 🙂 quite interesting - Thank you 🚙👍
Both these routes as you have mentioned in the vlog as not same as before. Since i am a biker, I usually tend to take the route via Kudremukha National park. Although the roads have been fixed now, there are some stretches which are still damaged due to heavy traffic. The next best alternative is via Agumbe albeit it can strain when you’re riding a car etc.
If you travelling from mangalore to bc road one small hotel called skandashree near diverstion to bc road to Dharmasthala one beautiful hotel fish Visit
Have you tried the Sampage ghat route yet? BLR - Mysore - Madikeri- Sampaje - Sulya- - Mangalore? I guess - Decent roads with very little roadwork in this stretch.
I think you should take Arsikere route towards Bangalore, it has less Toll stations and the roads only in few areas are crowded and slow rest of the places are good.
While going to Mangalore, you missed the Sakleshpura bypass, it's a breeze to go through. You need to be road aware while you reach near Ossoor hotel where you have to get into one of the lane as there is road work goin on in one of the lanes but you can still go through and save at the least of 30 mins of your time through Sakleshpur. But yes after Gundya, the time that you gained will be lost :) because of the road work going on. May be in a year or so everything should be fine.
Pls come to chandigarh and Shimla highway and chandigarh to Manali And Manali Rohtang Atal tunnel to leh road are very fascinating and you will enjoy and great content and food joints even Mumbai and Delhi express way you can take you vehicle on train and drive at the location
Good morning dear Kripal - Yes it seems to be overcast and that should have provided some respite . Phew that was a tad close with the scooter zipping across . C’est la vie 😀 Thus far the road seems to be good . The place should be called Sudden-stop-katte 😀 I agree , when you ride the FB you are a tad cautious on riding through the undulations. Nonetheless it’s Jimny and you exude with confidence. Beautiful stretch interspersed with “Kachcha roads” . Yes it’s excellent that you got your PPF done ✔️. As such the roads are quite bad and to top it there was a bit or rain to make it even more mushy . Phew 20 Kms in an hour 😰 The ghat section is good and the background music elevated the viewing experience ( of course Insta 360 rocks ) Lovely to see greens as you drive through the ghats 👌 Brilliant editing to capture some fabulous views; inside & outside the Jimny 👍 Hello to Mr Baby - the owner or Hotel Anil 👋 Completely true - looks can be deceptive and looks more like a small tea stall from outside . Now it’s time for lunch - piping Neer Dosa , Chicken curry with boiled egg, Bangude fry , Sardine with gravy and spicy fish curry 😋😋 The lunch looks super scrumptious to watch . All I can do is , virtually, savour the lunch 😀 Is the chicken a broiler or free range ? Cool that you relished the tangy & spicy Sardine curry 👌👌 The Mackarel fry looks have to been cooked well . Oh wow they offer Rasam as well . Brilliant hospitality in providing you their Anchovies (meant for home consumption) It’s ok to indulge in a such wonderful lunch especially when you are on your own 👍👍 Next pitstop for a hot coffee ☕️. Need to go back to the vlogs and refresh my memory. Yes this road is indeed picturesque 👌 It’s started to drizzle now and yes very much required . Yet another wonderful stretch . The problem with the car is that driver has a blind spot and that’s what can potentially lead to error in judgement and consequently end up in an accident . Sad 😔 I remember in your earlier vlog on this route where the women on either sides of the road selling “Adivasi Oil” Good review on the comparison between both the routes depending upon the nature of driver . I am so happy that you thoroughly enjoyed both the routes . Though I may not be driving on this route will share it with my buddies and family members in Bengaluru 👍👍 Thoroughly enjoyed this vlog and the previous one , especially your commentary about the pros and cons of the roads , safety tips , advice on where to eat etc . Perfect travel vlog and sure would be lapped up readily by the driver folks on the grid . Thanks once again for taking the efforts to show us the difference in driving between the Shiradi & Charmadi routes . It takes a lot of effort that goes behind such vlogs . Thank You 🙏 Take care , stay healthy & God bless 😇 Loads of love and respect 🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️
Hi Rajesh, happy to have you with me on the drive. Glad you found it interesting. Wrt you query, the chicken was broiler. Appreciate your kind words, happy to make the effort to produce interesting content for viewers like yourself. Take care.

If you’re taking the Charmadi route, the stretch after descending the ghats into Charmadi is where there is road work happening. You will see it post 6:45 in the video. Happy motoring.
Watching your review especially Jimmy ... But this was a personal question, slightly little bit wanna ask you for many times but I neglect myself now I jus wondering how you maintain your bald style...love to know bald lovers

Karkala Dharmashala route is much better than these . Must visit Hotel Renuka (Kadari) 3 kmts from Bajagoli towards Kudremuk road. You will get a very nice vegetarian GSB food here.
Sir some of the banglore people don't how to drive in charmadi ghat because all banglore people are using the shiradi ghat if it's block then they took this root even the govt bus drivers some patience should be there sir
Kripal- I think 30mins video is little too much but 20 would be ideal. Check the dashboard is people are really watching entire video. Thanks. just a thought.
Amateur drivers especially on Ghat sections should overtake if possible or else they give good gaps between the vehicle they are following so that it gives other efficient drivers to keep going without having to overtake this long tail behind a heavy vehicle.
Guys, Sakleshpur - Shiradi - Mangaluru stretch is worst - I mean just pathetic. AVOID.. AVOID!!! And Charmadi route should be avoided if you are heading to Mangaluru. Recommended: Bengaluru - Mysore - Madikeri - Puttur - Mangaluru & same route to return
This was self-shot, mentioned it in the drive to mangalore via shiradi vlog. In case you missed it, here's a link to the same.th-cam.com/video/KVkW9K7DF8o/w-d-xo.html

Can anyone update how the Road conditions are now , planning to travel on August 15 2024
Hey Prem, did you get info on current status
3:41 struggle? In the Jimny? Do you mean due to the slow traffic?
Yes, I was referring to the crawl and the condition of the road, not the vehicle.
How did you shoot those ghat shots.. areal. By drone? Asking coz there's not any other one to shoot.
shot on a 360 camera mounted on the car.
Sir please remove rear seat belts while not in usage
the spring in seat belt becomes loose and won't work in emergency
The car beeps if the rear seat belts aren't affixed.
