  • This is the Panasonic BT-H1390YN CRT Monitor. It is a 13" analog video monitor and might be the most unknown/underrated CRT in Retro Gaming. What do you think of the JVC combination on this CRT?

I recently got a BVM-A24E1WU and have been trying to set it up. I currently have it setup using HDMI to SDI and it looks great. I only have SDI inputs, but it can accept cards. What are the expansion cards called? I'd like to get one for RGB/Component, RCA, and S-Video. I'm lacking the knowledge on the terminology. Thank you! This BVM is beautiful!

Nice video as always. Fairly sure that both JVC and Panasonic were subsidiaries of Matsushita (also Sanyo), so that explains the components.

I've got this exact monitor and it's great, glad to see someone give it the attention it deserves. The YN models came with P22 phosphors that, for my money, look very reminiscent of 90's arcade monitors. It's probably the only CRT in my collection that I'm going to keep in the long term.

I got lucky and purchased this monitor off Craigslist a couple years back. I had no idea what it was, but I knew it looked nice. I don’t think I paid more that $100-150 for it. Thanks for teaching me so much about it. I am so happy it’s in my Crt collection

There are some great monitors from other manufacturers out there. People also tend to underestimate how good a higher line count shadow mask tube can look. I have a JVC TM-H150CG that has 750 TV lines, and it looks amazing. Steve has shown one on the channel before. I also have a higher end JVC DT-V1710CG. This monitor has 800 TV lines and it actually has an interesting, completely flat aperture grill trinitron style tube. It looks absolutely stunning, and can go all the way up to 1080i in analog and digital modes. The only issue is that it can be finicky with sync from some consoles. I would like to see Steve take a look at that one in the future.

Just picked up one of these for $80, although it's not giving me proper picture at the moment. I'm definitely going to try and fix it though.
Also, regarding the JVC parts, JVC released the BM-H1310SU, and I believe that this Panasonic is a rebranded version of it. Matsushita (AKA Panasonic) was the majority stockholder of JVC until JVC merged with Kenwood in 2008.

nice, I have an olympus OEV 141 that's a rebadge of some panasonic pro-monitor or another. A bit older and more basic but the TVL count is still super crisp and the tube is probably the brightest I have. And the dot shadow mask looks really cool

    • @RetroTechUSA
      @RetroTechUSA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Cool, yeah the 141 is a rebranding of a Panasonic Monitor. It's closer to the next Panasonic I'll review, the BT-H1350Y

I did some research, and it turns out the OEV 141 is a rebadge of the Panasonic MT-1480. I also have a 141.
You're right, the high TVL with a dot mask gives it such a unique look, especially playing 240p!

Just picked up a BT-S1360Y from an auction for $25!
Having the hardest time finding the service manual for this specific model- produced 1992
It works perfectly with my N64 S-Video streaming capture setup, and the condition is breathtaking for the age. Am curious if the original owner (forensics professor at a community college) replaced any interior parts or restored it in some way. I suppose this is a 2-part question:
Does this BT-S1360Y service manual exist somewhere online, and what would clues of restored work look like if I do go inside?
Thanks for the amazing content as always.

I literally just watched a Vice video yesterday where they featured this monitor throughout showing footage from the 80's, and I couldn't find out where it was anywhere (they'd removed all the branding)! Crazy timing! The video is "Did the CIA Actually Sell Crack in the 1980's" for anyone interested.

I recently picked up a JVC BM-1400PNKA and this Panasonic basically looks identical, it has exactly the same outer frame, exactly the same front and back panels, and even the menu options are the same. I wonder how much inside the Panasonic is actually unique or is it simple a 100% rebranded product?

Looks great, 750TVL is nice too at that size. It's a shame it doesn't do 480p but surely 480i is good enough on such a screen. I have the potential to pick one of these up free from work where it would have likely had light use in the AV gallery of a lecture theatre or possibly used as an external monitor for viewing edits or monitoring VHS duplication.
