    Thank you for doing a proper range test showing GPS distance and a map. Sooo many "range tests" on TH-cam don't even have GPS distance, let alone a map... they're just like "Yea, i went pretty far, maybe farther than with other antennas." ugh.. my first 'lost drone' was my meteor64. Flysky rx so it has no range or penetration. I was flying fairly high to see over the treeline, and then flew behind the house. control link cut out, but VTX let me watch it falling through tree branches for a few seconds before the video also cut out.
    I marched straight out into the forest in the general direction. Armed and spun up the motors to see if i could hear it. Almost got lost in the woods, but i found it as the sun was setting... good 20 minute hike in rough forest hills. 30 minute hike to get back out. I should have taken my phone for GPS.

    i didn't need the phone or the OTG cable. I turned on the remote and goggles and got into find my drone in the goggles menu. Although it didn't give me coordinates it showed me exactly where I landed.

    going extremely fast drains the battery faster.. not saying youd make it back. like 30mph or something will cover most distance on a battery on a lot of drones. 18mph about will give max flight time. i guess you should not use sport mode, keep using N mode is more safe

    • @LONE-WOLF-FILMS
      @LONE-WOLF-FILMS  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem is not using sport mode or manual, you can fly in whatever mode you want, BUT, if youre going out a fair distance then you need to be mindful of things like head wind or tail wind.
      Nothing wrong in flying the drone in manual, what i did here was to show how far you can potentially get with both sets of antennas.
      For long range stuff then stick to normal or sport mode but be aware of your battery consumption.
      If youre far out like i was, further out that i anticipated then dont swith it to Manual mode as it eats through the battery in no time, plus i was fighting through a deceptively strong gust at altitude, i decided to drop it lower to get out of that wind but you potentially sacrifice loss of signal and the problem with that is that if you do lose signal, youre spending time and battery to correct that where as it could be used more efficiently like coming back home, instead, when RTH kicks in, the drone stops to readjust and that uses up battery too that could have been used to get those few extra Km to get back home.
      Sticking to normal or sport mode conserves the battery but if the wind is too strong for the drone to fly through, essentially you'll just be hovering or going really slow and ultimately you risk not getting the drone all the way home.
      Its up to you to decide on the day the best approach and get your drone back to the homepoint, i made some stupid mistakes on this and i thought id share that info so others dont fall foul of those variable pitfalls whilst flying the FPV.
      The battery uses so much power in manual mode so id keep it close or within a set distance especially over mountains and water, if you lose signal during a dive in manual mode, you risk the drone crashing before it auto corrects itself and then goes into RTH mode.
      Keep it in line of sight and dont go over the other side of any obstacles and youll be fine.

      They're both good but for different reasons, I'd use the stubbys because they give better penetration but they're not the most amazing things, or maybe my expectations were too high.
      Either way, they work well and have a smaller form factor so they're easier to store or pack away whilst on the goggles.

  • @GFX_media
    @GFX_media 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Do the TrueRC’s improve quality while flying around dense objects, for example trees or buildings or do they purely improve the quality at range?

    • @LONE-WOLF-FILMS
      @LONE-WOLF-FILMS  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The problem with the original antenna is if you go even slightly out of VLOS then you're going to lose signal and the screen in the goggles goes black, RTH will kick in and eventually you'll regain control.
      These antenna just boost that signal by a fraction but even on a normal day 300 to 400 yards with perfect line of sight I can lose signal, then on other days I can go about a mile out and out of VLOS and still have good signal.
      I'd say these antenna just boost the signal close by and they're not designed for range.
      Best case scenario is stay in visual line of sight, try and be equidistant to where you're flying left to right and your signal will be even better than just sending it out as far as you can.

      @@GFX_media I think the common misconceptions are the if you buy antenna or range extenders that this is a bulletproof excuse to fly into the sunset when in actual fact they're just to give your signal a boost and less dropout.
      I've seen so many times where people lose their drones because they send it too far out and it's stupid to me to even think about doing that.
      I've only ever done that twice and I'm extremely uncomfortable at the thought of it, I always stay in line of sight.... ALWAYS!
      These are good enough for what you need so I hope it helps.
      Just stay local and don't make the mistakes that others do and like I did, I sent mine out too far and didn't have the battery to get back.
      I was lucky to get my drone back and I won't be flying more than VLOS again, it's just not worth it.
      I've subscribed to your channel as I love your editing skills, you deserve more subs as your content is great and honest.

      @@LONE-WOLF-FILMS thank you for your detailed reply. FPV is an absolute minefield but I love it 😁 I have bought them and I’m going to do my own comparison video from stock antenna and the true rc based on my own needs. But I agree, VLOS is extremely important, but sometimes impossible if one wants to push the boundaries of FPV. As long as it is safe, and only the drone at risk then I’m willing to take the risk 😅 But again, thank you for the advice and thank you for your kind words, I will also sub to you as your video was very interesting and helpful, as well as your reply to my comment. Thank you 👊🏼

      @@LONE-WOLF-FILMS I watched it all but TBH didn't learn enough to help me make a decision about whether to buy these stubbies for improved range. The same info could have been edited down to a 5 mins IMHO. I would have re-run the test starting on low power over a shorter distance and pushed the range to the max until RTH kicked in. Glad you found your drone (we've all been there) but didn't really need all that detail. For the record, did you decide to keep the True RC's or return? Cheers. Safe flying :)

      @@Ddraig62SPD the video was a bit long I agree but I wanted to give a real time view of events.
      I'm still learning about condensing my videos down but I don't want to lose important information either.
      I'm still on the fence with these too, I've not flown it much since then due to being extremely busy.
