Welcome back to Melbourne Australia! It's our second vlog exploring the CBD and the wider city, but unlike the first vlog around the sites, today is all about the food. Not just restaurant food though, we've hunted out a real mix of food options from all over Melbourne to share.
Kicking things off is obviously coffee, Melbourne imports insane amounts of coffee beans every day and it's probably harder to get a bad coffee, than it is to get an exceptional cup. We went to Queen Victoria Markets and to Market Lane Coffee shop for an absolute banger to start the day.
Then it was food truck time, doughnuts for breakfast is the key to life they say. The American Doughnut Kitchen trailer is parked up on Queen St, outside sheds H and I, and has been there since 1956 dishing out classic donuts with a dollop of red jelly in the centre. Amazeballs.
Chinatown was next, the oldest China Town in Australia and full of amazing restaurants. Our search was for the best dumplings in Melbourne and that lead to Hu Tong for some killer Xiaolongbao. Dumplings on a cold day (almost every day in Melbourne) is a bloody must.
Burgers in a train on top of a building sounded cool, so off to Collingwood in an Uber to Easeys Burger - awesome concept, super random, legit burger and tasty beersies.
Gelato in Collingwood to wrap things up along with a flash back to a super cool restaurant called Chin Chin.
A day like this is barely scratching the surface on all the cool restaurants or best food options in Melbourne though - you could stay for a week and eat your way around the city alone and still have more places to visit!

food , music, theatre and entertainment, - cold at times but always something special happening - love it. Tasmania will give you a wonderful natural experiance and it is beautiful for the camera and the history but Melbourne has all the rest
Watching tonight on the BIG SCREEN,,,Melbourne always had great food, when I visited from Perth back in 1974 the food was 😊👍👍👍 and the Australian Ballet and Opera were 👍👍👍 and the Lyre Birds in the Dandenong’s 🥰🥰🥰 then I did The Great Ocean road to Adelaide. Phwoar.

If there is a cuisine, we will have it in Melbourne , we are quite spoiled. I live near the south Melbourne market. So weekly treats there and the best produce. And yes we take our coffee very very seriously. There are so many areas with different specialties. Originally from Auckland here, I have some fave places there I like to revisit. The vic market jam doughnuts are renowned.
Easey’s is one of my favorite places to grab a burger and a beer!

Very nice food vid you guys !!! We had one night in Melbourne at an IHG hotel thanks to Loni's brother in law who arranged for us to stay at a $350 per night hotel for only $30 !!! He listed Al as the hotel engineer for his hotel in Ohio. Upon arrival we were treated as almost royalty by the staff who was so impressed a fellow employee had traveled all the way to Melbourne for a visit. One downside was that a lift was not operating properly and they asked Al to help them with it. Most would have panicked at this point, but Al as a graduate Electrical Engineer did not hesitate to join in, even though he knew nothing about lifts (elevators) and was really a computer engineer. He got lucky and spotted that the staff was using a Simpson Multimeter incorrectly. The Simpson was the main tool of ever lab course Al took. The problem was solved and our "cover" was maintained.
Whhhhhaaaat $30?? Thats more than value, thats almost free! Haha that was brilliant to read, gotta say Al is sounding pretty James Bond-ish in that situation, nice one!

Very much with you guys about Collingwood, that district looked amazing, but the dumplings in Chinatown are making me want to go to our Chinatown pronto for some dumplings! I've heard all about the coffee culture here from the friend I mentioned in my comment to your other video and she was so disappointed with the coffee here in London! 🤦♀️

Messina is the best ice cream I have ever had anywhere in the world - just had it again last week. BTW Chinatown isn't just the oldest in Australia, it's apparently the longest continuous Chinese settlement in the Western world!

You should go to Bistro Morgan on high St prahran for amazing donuts 🍩 😋 totally different to market /jam donuts though but so good. 👌 also there is a din tail fung in melb cbd
I live here and haven't even been to these restaurants haha but I will be now! I love how nicely you spoke about Collingwood, don't think I've ever heard anyone speak that nicely about it 😂 Giggled at the Queen Vic Market though, its huuuge - if you only you were here in Winter when the night market is on, thats full on super yummy food 😋
Haha what's the local view on Collingwood? We're always kind of conscious that our exposure is so limited vs a local, but looked cool to us
@@DanegerAndStacey My son worked in Collingwood for several years and he loves the place, Collingwood, Abbotsford and Fitzroy so much to see and do and the food is excellent.
@@DanegerAndStacey based on the comment above my view may just be because I'm a lot further out from the city so noone near me really talks about it haha but Collingwood and surrounding suburbs have always been flagged to me as not the safest of areas, especially at night, but its changed a lot as I've grown up and definitely seems like a cool place to go now! I'll have to check it out over summer 👏

That market looked huge! Like an Aussie version of the Chatuchak Market in Bangkok (which I have been to..but was hungover at the time. No bueno). LOL!

Best croissants are at Loafer Bakery. Check it out baby. Coffee is best at Kit Coffee in royal arcade, small hidden place but best in CBD. Gelato is Messina yeah for sure. Welcome to my little city! My dad is a Kiwi also. 💕

Hi Kiwis, many thanks for your footage and unfortunately I havent been to your mentioned places. Anyway, during the AO the focus was different. A very nice place to be anyway. Btw, regarding croissants or bakery in generall, once you get it managed to come to Europe(hope this current tragedy will end soon without any further damages to whole of Europe) you should try the german bakery, especially bread, buns and cakes. B) you can't go everywhere but Melbourne has great Vietnamese food, Victoria Street in Richmond, right next to Collingwood or out at Springvale. Banh Mi and Pho both awesome. Next time maybe.

By the 1980's their contribution to the culture of the city was taking over.
They dominated the nightclub scene, cafes, bistros, food & coffee and the night life in the years ahead.....

Interesting that you mentioned Wise card in this vlog because I have been researching all the different cards to use for travel just today. Wise seems like the best option but I'm struggling to find a good review on the product. Have you both really had no issues with it?
It's legit, Dan. We've used ours all over the world and all our family use it as well now. There's been some recent research in NZ around 'the best travel card' and they basically said in the article its not worth comparing. Though do look into Revolut as well, similar offering.
