@Crimson Idol that is very deceiving. it charted as high as #69, which is not good at all if the record sold well it would not have taken 4 years for the follow up. BM enjoyed some MTV airplay but they were reduced to opening concerts for bigger acts and some club gigs. Sykes wrote those WS 87 songs but he messed up his gig there and had to be fired.
@sha broussard they did a very bad move at choosing their singles. This one and VOTK doesnt sound like something that would have gone huge. Out Of Love and Billy as singles would definitely have made Blue Murder a very remembered name that year.
@sha broussard Im agreed with almost every thing you said. But both Sykes and DC acted in a very stupid way. When DC and Sykes met for the first time, Sykes refused the offer and said: 'Im not someone of being ordered around and I dont like to be told what to play'. So he went back with Thin Lizzy and got a call from DC telling him how much he wanted. DC should have never insisted on having Sykes on his band, knowing how independent Sykes is, but also Sykes acted like a dick with that statement. As for the 'Sykes made Whitesnake good', I think some of you guys miss the whole point. Its obvious Whitesnake made great stuff before Sykes, no one denies that, but as every other band and leader, DC wanted to be huge. Without Sykes that would have never been possible. The guitar tone, the guitar playing, backing vocals, the arrangements. Slip Of The Tongue just had one hit if im not wrong that not even got close to how big the 87 hits went. And as far as I know, Sykes was the one making all the arrangements along with Neil and Aynsley, Coverdale only wrote lyrics which are pretty shit tbh xD but great singer, undeniable.
Way back in the day when this song was being played on the radio, I used to imagine what the video would look like. Here I am 30+ years later watching it for the first time. Good job guys 👍
Sykes can wail on guitar, this is the greatest song I've never heard before now, why wasn't there more buzz around Sykes back in the day? One of the best player from the 80's!
I love John Sykes. He's a great singer, a great songwriter, an amazing guitar player. This video is ridiculously overwrought in some ways, but having been there and hopefully not going back there again I will say that not only can love break your heart when it is unfulfilled, but it can make you feel like everything you've done and are doing is in vain. I'm having this problem now and it has led to an onslaught of illness and really bad dreams. No, this song is no joke even though the video is a sign of the times par excellence.
@@IronWrath I'm a front man too..just vocals..an a hellish stage presence..i can sing all kinds of blue murder..my vocals are superiour..all good in da hood✊💪🇺🇸🎤😎
I was wondering how many people know who John Sykes is. He actually co-wrote Whitesnake's most famous album, and then was fired by David Coverdale. The Whitesnake band that everybody saw in the 80's singing their most famous hits, aside from David Coverdale, was a cover band. John and the entire band were fired, and that's when John created this album.
+Cmentman Z sykes wanted to replace David when DC was ill for the first recording of the album, and they were butting heads as who was the real leader of the band, which DC had started and nurtered for almost 10 years at that point. And DC himself wrote crying in the rain, and marsden co-wrote Here i go again with DC. I love John though, what a marvelous talent (singing and playing guitar, as well as a song-writer). Murray was according to himself not really fired, they just drifted apart, as he was in London and DC in the US ..
the guitar solo is a perfect example of how john sykes can shred but also can play the most lyrical solo such as this one on jelly roll...some guys either play non stop full on shred or can barely play at all...john sykes has the ability to play crazy yet turn around and play something so beautiful it's magic....this is the sign of a great player...
I felt betrayed when they came out with the Still of the night video. You hear the voice & the music.. you see the whole band & you think.. Wow! To find out years later that they wasn't even the band that made the album. It took 2 guitarists to take the place of Sir Sykes! John had all of the talent & still does! So underrated
Same. I was already getting sick of the over the top cheesiness of 80's hair videos by then, but that one took the cake for me. No slam on Viv as a guitar player, but I was like "wtf is Vivian Campbell doing in this video?"

It's sad that a man of such enormous musical skill (guitar, vocals, songwriter, natural charisma) just disappears for years (sometimes more than a decade) at a time. He recorded his new solo album years ago but just won't release it. I can't help but wonder how he spends his days and years, what he does with himself as the music world moves on without him.
Used to work with Tommy O'Steen at LaBare Dallas in 93, when it was off of Lovers and Greenville. He used to dance to this song and I was a door girl. He left to join the band later.
Yeah, he formed it after getting fired from Whitesnake. That whole situation sucked, Sykes helped write the biggest hits, laid down all the guitar licks, then gets fired.

Seriously one of my favorite rock songs of all time. So good!
What a pwoer house --- John Sykes, Tony franklin, Carmen Appice
LOVE LOVE LOVE this group
Way back in the day when this song was being played on the radio, I used to imagine what the video would look like. Here I am 30+ years later watching it for the first time. Good job guys 👍
John Sykes master of the wide vibrato!
I am going with George Lynch on that comment.
Zakk W. also told
that!
In fact, Zakk once refereed to John sykes as an influence to put his own band pride and glory
@@gacyx6802 Agree! I'll add Steve Lukather to the club too!
Vibrato is everything... Sykes, Gilmore, Jeff Beck!!!
33 years ago wow time flies, had the cassette in 1989 .
Sykes can wail on guitar, this is the greatest song I've never heard before now, why wasn't there more buzz around Sykes back in the day? One of the best player from the 80's!
Man I miss this music
THIS IS THE ELITE OF THE LATE 80S HARD ROCK. PURE MAGIC. PEOPLE THAT LOOK GOOD AND CAN PLAY SONGS WITH POWER AND MELODY.
WOW MAN, WAY TO BUM EVERYONE OUT........
Bad ass!!! another brilliant piece of work by John!!! how can any one dislike this!! It's totally tight!!🇺🇸😎✌
John is the man... One of our biggest influences!!!
@@IronWrath I'm a front man too..just vocals..an a hellish stage presence..i can sing all kinds of blue murder..my vocals are superiour..all good in da hood✊💪🇺🇸🎤😎
@@sydneysheppard6686 oh dear....
Sucks MTV did not play this like should have .80s kid still love this band
I could easily listen to Blue Murder songs on and on, this is pure Rock, great band
This should have been a Monster hit.
Before all of that he was in Thin Lizzy for 1983s Thunder and lightning. A great talent but a clear takeover.
Who recorded the guitar for Still Of The Night? Was it Sykes or Adrian?
Sykes played on everything on the 1987/Whitesnake record. Vandenberg DID play the solo on Here I Go Again, tho
Sykes
Very underrated band. Getting to find albums.
the guitar solo is a perfect example of how john sykes can shred but also can play the most lyrical solo such as this one on jelly roll...some guys either play non stop full on shred or can barely play at all...john sykes has the ability to play crazy yet turn around and play something so beautiful it's magic....this is the sign of a great player...
Roger Knob.. .mmm .
This is my fave video featuring horse washing and mid thunder shirt ripping. It was hard to choose between so many.
The gorgeous and amazing John Sykes..
Props to Mr. Sykes. Awesome chops. Plus he has the coolest Les Paul ever
I felt betrayed when they came out with the Still of the night video. You hear the voice & the music.. you see the whole band & you think.. Wow! To find out years later that they wasn't even the band that made the album. It took 2 guitarists to take the place of Sir Sykes! John had all of the talent & still does! So underrated
yeah, basically the whole band was fired after laying down the music and vocals for that album
@@leogetz3570 crazy!
@@shon9474 yep. David Coverdale definitely had some issues for whatever reason
Same. I was already getting sick of the over the top cheesiness of 80's hair videos by then, but that one took the cake for me.
No slam on Viv as a guitar player, but I was like "wtf is Vivian Campbell doing in this video?"
Everybody needs a little Jelly Roll ....
Mmmm, with custard . ..
This is just pure good rock. Love the presentation and the words. What a catchy song with a background of great music. This singer has such a nice voice. I could listen to this band all day long!!!
WOW!! I remember back in the 80's when my rain soaked body used to look like this, while I was dreaming :) ROCK ON!!! \m/ \m/
This band is amazing, Sykes is a great guitarist and singer 👍👍🤟
A great song Johnathan Sykes has a strong beautiful voice one of the greatest guitar player in hard rock music great song writer. My favorite whitesnake guitar player.😎🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸🎸🌹🌹❤️❤️🏋️🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🎸🎸🌹
That crescendo of guitar playing at the end gives me goosebumps and pulls at my heart every time.
I was just introduced to this amazing song yesterday after being 40 years as a guitar player.🎸
29 years I've had this album, and still not bored of it. Sykes was, and still is, the man.
Still is.???
John Sykes true rock legend
John Sykes is a force of nature "The guy is a stud".
MrSmokeydog I CONCUR‼️. The guy's
A FANTASTIC guitar player, he has an
AMAZING voice, and he's SMOKIN' HOT
to boot!!! That all adds up to one thing =
S T U D ‼️
I love, love, LOVE this song!! ❤️
The music world moved on without him years (decades) ago.
@@pillsareyummy His ego was bigger than him
Used to work with Tommy O'Steen at LaBare Dallas in 93, when it was off of Lovers and Greenville. He used to dance to this song and I was a door girl. He left to join the band later.
I remember this song well. Sykes is a brilliant musician. Always thought his voice sounded like Jani Lane's - not a bad thing!
JustinFH I had that same thought, Justin...
A little bit deeper then Jani's but very
similar.
Jani was a great singer and songwriter! Their Dog Eat Dog album is amazing!
Sykes is a master of the Les Paul, Blue Murder would have been huge 3 years earlier.
Sykes has the most incredible vibrato in his guitar playing
John Sykes❤loved him in Whitesnake loved him in Blue Murder...AWESOME guitarist 😍
Great song great video John Sykes is so hot

Love the rain scene of John!!!!!!!!😛😛😛😛😛😛
I never knew Sykes band was Blue Murder. Killer album
Yeah, he formed it after getting fired from Whitesnake. That whole situation sucked, Sykes helped write the biggest hits, laid down all the guitar licks, then gets fired.
Best tune on this great album. Killer guitar lead in & solo one can never forget for the second half of the song.
😂
I love that white Shelby Cobra.
I'm just in love with John! Amazinggggg
