It’d say this is a pretty spot on assessment with the exception of a few points-at least for the bulge bracket i’ll be working for. 1. Lack if diversity- being apart of the incoming analyst class, i’d say there’s a nice 45-55 if not 50-50 split between men and women with the former being favored in the first set of numbers. Diversity is stressed at our bank, and our CEO is a woman. 2. Prior knowledge- the barriers of entry aren’t as steep in terms of being knowledgeable, but more how well can you think on your feet, learn, and your intensity. A majority of my fellow interns were very interested in the markets but by no means have any sort of expertise in them. Some of them knew little to nothing, demonstrated their ability to learn and have some sort of stem type background. As you said, it’s a niche area where it’s hard to gain experience without being in it, but I wouldn’t let a lack of market knowledge deter you from pursuing a job in the field. Demonstrating the ability to learn through financial coursework and interest in an area is more important than knowing the spot for TRYUSD. This is advice only for those trying to break in at a Jr. level.
