I'm not a Filipino, but my heart goes out to everybody being abused without the ability to divorce.

that's why more and more young Filipinos are hesitant to get married, instead they settled in living together and having children because of not having a divorce bill having no remedy in case marriage torn apart. the hypocrisy of the church!!!

I don't understand why people are afraid of divorce. Because with or without marriage, with or without divorce I love my hubby and I am confident of the commitment I have with him, and if it at some point it doesn't work I want us to be able to separate as well. When I told my hubby I do prefer divorce to be part of Philippines, he got scared and said he doesn't want it because then I'd leave him. So, I think it is a prison if that's how a partner feels about divorce. I have to constantly reassure my partner, not all partners are perfect but I'm glad he's not abusive, doesn't fool around either, and is very supportive. But has insecurities which as his partner I have to work around with and reassure I love him.

looks like deep inside many peoples' psyche here, or at least those of anti-divorce, are that of, they're so afraid of not really being competitive over the long-term and afraid of being left-alone (in local culture albeit changing slowly, it's quite a stigma, taboo to be alone [and happy] )

@@abrahamdsl yeah, I honestly don't understand why my hubby and also other people be afraid of something that is not for them unless they're insecure and unsure of their partner's love, that they think that divorce will somehow tear them apart. He always think that me supporting it equals to me leaving him which I guess many other anti-divorce also feels if they're so heavily against it while also saying "me and my partner is very happy, so we don't support divorce".

Deeply religious and conservative society? On the outside. But deep within absolutely despicable and abhorrent behavior most especially towards women. Divorce has yet to be approved here. But even that may be a long way off.
Divorce empowers women to leave horrible men and FORCES them to pay.
Very powerful people don't want that.

Divorce is like the Final boss of feminism in the Philippines if that happens. Divorce means more promiscuity, all this monthly money crap will happen, parental alienation and sacredness of marriage will be useless.

You can secure divorce in a foreign country and have it recognized in the PH. or you can have your marriage annulled here. Do your research.

A married filippino couple can't just go get a divorce in another country unless 1 of them is a citizen in that country.. & MANY locals can't afford a annulment & for the ones that can it takes years to finalize..
