  • A short video put together by one of the talented engineers at Airframe Assemblies, who have been commissioned by the Aircraft Restoration Company to rebuild RB396's rear fuselage. This video was created as the rear fuselage rebuild was commenced, in late 2019, not long before the world shut down for two years...
The rebuild of this rear fuselage is a huge first step in the return to flight of Hawker Typhoon RB396. Completion of this section is due in late 2023, subject to continued support, and will make it the first airworthy section of a Hawker Typhoon to be completed anywhere since the war.
Thank you to everyone who has supported so far and allowed work to get this far.

Really great to see old skills coming back with younger people learning them.

One of our aims is to educate the younger generation, that goes for the engineering as well. When the project can fully sustain it, we hope to introduce as many apprenticeships as the project can facilitate.

Looks magnificent! I remember when my father was part of the project but unfortunately left it was his dream to get this thing flying. He had been researching the Typhoon and loved it for ages. I remember when he came home with the fuselage and it sat in the garage along with the Napier engine and it’s come this far. Keep up the truly amazing work.

Isn't there a Typhoon restoration in Canada in a more advanced state? I think his channel is called Typhoon Legacy.

Typhoon Legacy started from much worse parts, and is primarily one person, and having to build from new. They also have had to scratch around for a Napier engine. Efforts in the last year have been to get a merlin engine working - why a merlin as they were never fitted to a typhoon - because the only way to get a napier engine was to exchange it for a running merlin. This has now happened, so hopefully they will be able to progress now.

@@Mark-jp9dz Yes, as you say, he started with less, is essentially a one man band, & has had to work & scratch for just about everything. Sadly for him, he wasn't gifted a complete inhibited engine, but had to work to end up with two Sabre relic engines.
At this time, I regard it as an heroic effort. Hopefully your team can raise the 5.5 million quid that has seems to have been budgeted for your aircraft as we do need to see at least one in the air.👍
