This channel is consistently one of the best on TH-cam. No constant peddling of merchandise, no junior high humor, no one trying to be a comedian. Just a well presented and narrated look into the work and dynamics of a family dairy farm.
@@alexw3068 I think it will really start taking off. 100K is the first big milestone, and he has passed that so he should be getting a little more promo from YT.
I know the land where he was born. That's a place of hard work people. We hope his regress to Brazil with a long and highest experience. Wellcome back.
Loved this video! People may think that once the harvest is in and all is put away for the winter, a farmers life is easier. NOT! Snow and ice and manure stack up. I remember 60 years ago, there was a huge snow and ice storm and 40- C weather for weeks . our water in barn froze and dad had to take an axe and hack up a layer of ice, down the big hill where the barn was, to the creek to drink. It was quite a sight to see 250 head of beef and dairy cows string out single file down the big hill to the flats to drink daily. And pick their way back up. That’s when you blessed the old lead cows for sure. Oh the memories . Thanks for the video for sure. Take care .
I spent time on a dairy farm in Nova Scotia in the fifties from age 12 to 16. The two families who worked the farm were post war immigrants from Holland. They were wonderful, hard working people, and, perhaps as a result of the war, rarely displayed any humour. I learned so much from them, and held them in great respect. Your farm technology amazes me. We lived in Moose Jaw in the seventies, so understand your climate.
Let me tell you...that snow...WOW! Thank God for you all because there would be no dairy waiting on me to work in that weather! Also as a a big sister...go Big Sis!!
I grew up on a dairy farm in Southern Ontario back in the 60's. We worked crazy hard but we tried to make it enjoyable by having little competitions between our siblings. Great life and wouldn't have changed a thing.
Nice seeing you put your family to work.... When anyone would "visit" my Aunt's farm....they would always find things we could "help" with...esp during haying...
Great work little sister, Jan you did well. I can't get over how much snow you have already Wow that sucks. Hope your snow pile up keeps your pipes from freezing. Nice to see your cousin getting stuck in to the work. He is good with the camera to. Top video Jan.
You are all hard workers! I am really enjoying learning about a dairy farm operation. I can imagine this is all routine for you but it is very enlightening to people who live in the city. Thank you!
Another superb video. Love the family dynamics you show; its a winner every time. Thanks. Stay warm. Our first cold front arrived lasst night: plummeted down to 50F! 😂
I watch and enjoy all your videos. I used to milk cows 50 years ago, and things have sure changed. Keep up the good work, you have a great operation and you sure look after your animals! Southern Ontario
I used to milk cows in the south-west of Scotland and remember the frozen pipes in the parlour when we got the freezing wind. Snow is pretty to look at but sometimes hard to work in. Enjoying your videos a lot.
Pssst Jan a little trick i learned in Texas when milking to hang milkers under faster hold two teat cups in each hand and then put two on at a time with the left cups in the left hand and the right cups in the right hand with the rear teat cups lower than the front ones.
I had no idea that you could use snow as an insulator. Of course, it DOESN'T snow down here almost at all. When it does snow, we might get a inch or two of sludge. Pipes freeze down here, but we use manufactured insulation for that. Who knew. Using snow as an insulator. I just learned something new today. Thank you.
“Sask Dutch Kids” as in plural after that stompin’ in the parlour...good fun. We want to see her rip it up on the equipment too. Seems like winter hit you guys with authority. Fun video thanks.
It's so cool how you brought your family into today's episode! And another great example of your talent in presentation. Killer Instagram story today too - Mommy & Easton time! Great work Jan!
-25?! Wow! We’re still hanging out around 0 degrees here in Ontario. It’s 4 degrees out today and no snow. You’re much more north than me though. I’m in between Toronto and Ottawa, if you know where that is.
@George Friesen Well not exactly. I’m older I believe and I’m not sure that he would know more about the country than me, but he defiantly knows a lot more about dairy farming and running heavy equipment than I do. Also, I’m not sure why you would leave such a reply...on a comment talking about the weather difference?
@George Friesen Well, not everyone on TH-cam is knowledgeable on Canadian geography. Sooooo...you know, if some person watching from anywhere besides Canada, happens to watch this video and read my comment they might not know exactly where these places are.
Your sisters is too good i love her as my lovely sister...... she is very hard worker and competitor for you this is so lovely time for me i am always seen your vedio and impressing by your hard work
I cannot believe the snow and the cold you have there. I live in one of the coldest places in the States and we are unusually snowy and cold. But nothing like your Province. I hope you have a snow machine for all that snow.
Jan, sorry you lost to your sis but...you’ll get over it! Congratulations to your sister! It still looks like massive amount of snow! Great video and great that your cousin wants to help out! Keep up the good work! God Bless!
If you get a sheet of 2 inch thick foam board and put it up against the wall for the winter you would have no problem. As always, love your videos. You can't win every race and we still think you are the man you Jan.
I like that shot of the cows coming into the parlour. A few weeks ago you gave a shout-out to the favorite cows on the dairy. The only cow I can remember being a favorite is 605. Could you give a shout-out again of your favorite cows and why they are favorites? I'd like to see that shot of the cows rushing into the parlour more often. Which cows like to be first into the parlour? Good news today, very close to having Covid-19 vaccines available soon. Woohoo!!!
Good video, girls always make better milkers! The cows like them better. Grew up on a dairy with 3 siblings and 4 cousins and there was plenty of competition.
It’s Ben a very weird November here in upstate NY 2 and half weeks ago we had 6-8 inches of snow then week before last it was 70-78 degrees allowed us to cut and bale around 1500 second cut square bales
Enjoyed the sibling rivalry, even though I was betting on you (Jan) to win. I moved from New England to Florida 14 years ago to escape the cold windy drifting snow. I hope all that snow is not an omen for a bad winter in Saskatchewan . 🐄 🐄 🐄 🐄 🐄 X 3
Question. Your milk tank size is what. How long does it take to fill up? How long can milk stay there before pickup? Is the tank refirigorated? How far away is the milk plant for processing? Or the trucks just run a route schedule.
Every time I see all of you milking in that parlor I think how great that is not having to throw a strap over there back and hanging the surge machines then it’s fun dumping the milk into the dumping station out behind them be thankful for technology!
The miliking compition looks fun, n yea your sister dominated this one. N props to youre cousin he asks all the right questions n hes cautious but yea gotta work on keepin that phone in the pocket while workin!
I thought your milking computer would tell u whos the fastest milker out of all the employees? It's great to see your family working together happy for the most part. 👍
Jan do you guys have herd testing in Canada. Cause here in New Zealand we having herd testing 4 times in a season. Most of our farms only milk our cows in the summer times.
One tip I can give from when I was milking two years ago, after you hit your button grab the bank two suckers on milkers then fold the vacuum tube forward, from there you can grab the front two suckers. You can attach two at a time that way. After some practice it goes really well
This was a fun light hearted Video, and yeah your sister won this time dude lol. Was good to see family members involved in the video, always nice to see a family working together. By the way you ever get a perm like your cousin I hope your sister takes the tail shears to it 😂😂😂
That was a grate video. You will have to have another milk off contest come spring time. I used to hate it when water lines freeze up a right big pain. I hope the snow dose the job. Looking forward to seeing the next instalment. Regards Richard
At the place I work in central Alberta the parlour spins around and the cows and a waiting area with the same kind of moving gate you have but every 4 cows that enter the gate will move forwards kind of a shitty design because you have to move the last few into the parlour your self I just have to make sure I stop scraping at 530 and do that then I switch the groups by remembering the last cow number and lifting the gate so I can push the second group of cows in and then around 620 I go back and push the last few in. I think the idea of it is that there’s always a flow of cows coming and going and takes about 8 minutes for a cow to pass through
Nice video again Jan and sister, what is her name by the way: Eline or Neline or so? Very pretty and efficient milking parlour you've got, guess quite nice place to work for a while every day! Nice to see the pretty Holstein Frisians in the snow. Wonder how you make the hot water you need for cleaning etc.? Cold out there -25 Celcius, wintertime. Here in NL it kind of refuses to get under 10 celcius during the day.
Hey Jan, I'm glad I put my money on your sister I knew she would win lol. Next time you're going to have to step up and bring your A game even the cows were cheering for her😉. So whats next for SDK keep up the good work and see you in the next video🤔👩🐄👏😉

I imagine five years of German occupation would have a detrimental effect on one's humour
Your sister is very pretty and has a beautiful smile.
Agreed!

Your sister is a pretty young lady. You need to let her to be in more videos.
I worked with the dutch for 5 yrs in my twenties. All my kids are a success today in part because of that experience . Good people.

Great video. Several things going on. I like to see that. Good to have your cousin helping too. Brrr. Cold! All that snow.
Watch the video and see how happy your little sister was. It’s worth loosing once in a while. There will come a day when you’ll treasure that memory.

Great Video. Yup, some of those cows got sass! Love seeing family working together. Stay warm in all that snow!
For those that think snow is so pretty, obviously they haven't had to work in it. Yes, it's pretty but sure does make for more work. Great video.
Cherish the time you spend with your sister , that's important ! Memories stay safe , Bob

One day you will look back on that race and it will be one of your favorite memories. Well worth a bruised ego. Great show as always. Thanks.
Real nice setup you have there, tidy. You guys obviously take great pride in your farm and animals👍

Sister seems faster until she had to step over the milk jug. I think she’s the hands down winner.
thats what i saw also she had the lead, so lets give it to her
She had to go around the bucket on the first go around.
Looked like she had to push on the lid to seal the catch bucket also. She kicked butt!
Sister is very beautiful and a hard worker, hard to beat that combo!

Is it possible to get a sheet of ridged insulation behind the plumbing that froze? Or does that piping go thru the wall?
Enjoy watching the videos, they are udderly fantastic, but I think the sis is the faster milker.....
Could you please explain how your cow barn and milking barn are designed. It looks as if every step those cows take was planned. Thanks.
Another great video three cheers to your sister , so far in southern Ontario we don’t have any snow which is just fine with me
