“i love painted ceilings” *looks at bedroom ceiling longingly* literally laughed out loud when you did that, because i would also stop and think for a second that maybe i could do it if i tried hard enough 💀
I still think Jack in the books is better than Jack Edwards. I don't think you can convince me otherwise. I feel like it's more personal. It feels like hanging out with a friend, instead of just watching a booktuber.
In my experience if I see German looking words but they look kinda wrong - then that means it's Dutch. Same with Spanish - if the words look/sound a bit off, usually it means it's Portuguese lol
i speak both german & dutch and im not gonna lie, in my experience dutch is literally just german but you throw in some almost-english words and add an insane amount of random double vowels as well as “ij” for some reason
As someone who lives in Portugal, Lello library is honestly gorgeous but now a days because of tourism (due to the fact that the iconic Harry Potter staircase is inspired by the one on this library) 98% of the books are just Harry Potter content.
The ateneo Grand Splendid, used to be a thatre and was turned into a bookshop in the early 2000s. I went two times and it's beautiful. The stage has been turn into a café where you can sit and read books without buying them. It's really amazing
And the higher levels also have books and you can wonder off into the parts that used to be for the very elite to sit and read! I adore that place (and it's close to Corrientes avenue that's packed full of seconhand bookstores!)
I literally screamed cause I live in Mexico City and recognised El Péndulo, there's actually like four of them around the city. Lovely bookstore for anyone to visit. :3
So the second bookstore is apparently where J.K. Rowling wrote a good amount of some of the Harry Potter books but no one can confirm it. They also say she got the idea for the gowns in Harry Potter from the kids that go to school in Portugal, if you Google it you’ll see
I was just about to say the same thing!😂 i was like that’s Portugal because jk rowling. I think there’s a tour video about the bookstore I just forgot from who.😅
The part about the gowns is true. The part about the bookstore is false (JK confirmed it in a tweet, she has never been to that bookstore actually 😂). She has lived in Portugal that's true. The place where she "wrote a good amount of some of the Harry Potter books" is "Cafe Majestic" (you can Google it, it's really beautiful!).
Jack, I love how effortlessly funny you are. It really gives me the boost I need to finish this week. Never thought watching someone else play could be so entertaining lol
The first one is my fave bookstores in my country, Argentina 🖤 the Ateneo Grand Splendid. You can have a drink in the converted stage with the books you just purchased.
When I saw the title I just knew that el Ateneo Grand Splendid was going to show up. It's a beautiful beautiful place. But nonetheless, as a reader I prefer to buy in independent bookstores and Buenos Aires has so many options to offer. Don't know how accurate this peace of trivia is, but I think that the city is one of the cities with most bookshops per capita in the world.
Some useless information: I usually go to the grand splendid and then to Corrientes avenue (closer to the obelisk) to buy books because it's so packed full of seconhand bookstores that have the most obscure titles ever
Isn’t the fact that I recognized Shakespeare and Company the second I saw it the best way to describe how much I love this channel? Never been to Paris, but loved your vlogs there
I did a presentation in Spanish last week about Argentina and I mentioned El Ataneo Grand Splendid (because it think it’s magnificent and I gotta include books everywhere) and I FELT that it would be in this video. I recognized it right away and for some reason this just makes me excited lol. I really hope to visit that bookstore one day.
If you like bookstores in cathedrals, you've absolutely got to visit Dominicanen in Maastricht, in the Netherlands! It's a bookstore located in a 13th century church and it's beautiful
Yeah, I was surprised that particular bookstore in Amsterdam was on that list (it's not that beautiful?), the converted church one in Maastricht is so much more beautiful!
Lello in Porto is beautiful, I loved it. But you can't move in there, and it is never empty. You even have to buy a ticket to get in. But if you buy a book inside you can use the ticket for the discount. :)
Hey Jack! Have you seen this video? : BOOKSTORES: How to Read More Books in the Golden Age of Content. It's by Max Joseph. In the video he consults a few experts on fast reading because he feels like he should read more, while he travels around Europe and visit's bookstores! I love this documentary and I think you would enjoy it too! I never find these geoguessr videos very interesting, but this one was right up my alley!
I loved that video as well, I shared it with some of my friends and it motivated them to get into reading again. Plus it shows off a lot of Portuguese bookshops which I love ❤
I literally watched that video this morning!! How weird to see that same library in Porto twice on the same day. th-cam.com/video/lIW5jBrrsS0/w-d-xo.html
I was able to guess where the second bookstore was only because of that video 😅 (It's a gorgeous bookstore to say the least, the kind I'd like to wander through and get lost on a timehole)
as a brazilian im just thankful that you stoped thinking it was brazil as soon as you read the sign in spanish. unfortunately most people don’t know we speak portuguese here
I have seen so many images of the first location so many times on Tumblr, I paused and made my guess because I didn't even have to wait for Jack to look around to know it was Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I'm Brazilian, but I've met El Ateneo, in Buenos Aires. It's a really famous bookstore around our region of South America haha so it's funny seeing someone who loves books not knowing this place! It's an amazing bookstore and I surely want to come back someday, not only to El Ateneo, but to the city
JAJJAJ OMG this was AMAZING. I’m from Mexico City 🇲🇽 and I’ve been in that bookstore before, so yes, I was in fact screaming at the video JAJJA. But you were incredible in this game ❤️✨
The bookstore in Portugal was the one that J K Rowling wrote some of the books of Harry Potter. I think at least the third was written in there I'm portuguese and I'm pretty sure this is true but please correct me if I'm wrong (also sorry if is something bad written, english isn't my first language)
The second bookstore is called Livraria Lello in Porto, Portugal and its actually the one J. K. Rolling got inspirations from to write the harry potter books (:
Wonderful video! Actually, it was a big surprise when I saw El Péndulo; I used to live in Mexico City and go to that bookstore every now and then; even after buying a book or maybe two, sometimes I had lunch or breakfast in there: best chilaquiles in town, you can be sure of that. ☺️
Funfact: the bookstore in Porto was actually the inspiration behind Olivander's in the Harry Potter series because J.K Rowling used to live in Porto and was writing the Harry Potter series while living in Porto. Porto's university's school uniforms is also heavily based on Hogwart's school uniforms.
Great great fun Jack! Do wish it was a LIVE as I was screaming at my screen: MEXICO! MEXICO!! MEXICO!!! That bookstore is in Mexico! 🇲🇽 Was a bit of a cheat looking at the maps though. The point being to find the places - ON A MAP. 😂 😂 😂 Fun stuff! 🌹
